India’s 1st voter gets the red carpet welcome
Shyam Saran Negi, 97, the first voter of independent India, kept his date with the ballot again when he exercised his franchise at Kalpa polling station, 10,500 feet above sea level in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
The weak old man voiced the apprehension that it may be the last time he votes, given his infirmity.
Negi, will be 98 on July 1, received a red-carpet welcome at Kalpa which is part of Mandi Lok Sabha seat.
