NEC Corp. to conduct 5G trials jointly with NTT Docomo

Japanese multinational IT company, NEC Corporation, and the mobile phone operator, NTT DOCOMO have reached an agreement to jointly conduct trials for the use of 5th generation or 5G mobile communication standard.

5G denotes the next major phase of mobile telecommunications standards beyond the current 4G. The service is expected to be launched by 2020.

Sakshi Chaudhary to play Priyanka Chopra in film

Newbie Sakshi Chaudhary is said to have been zeroed in on the role of Priyanka Chopra in the film, based on the experiences of the National Award winning actress’ former secretary Prakash Jaju.

Sakshi, it would be recalled, has been signed by producer Firoz Nadiadwala for a three-film deal. She will be first seen opposite John Abraham in the next instalment of the “Hera Pheri: franchise”.

Sefer Calinak, who appeared on a TV dating show in Turkey, stunned the host and the studio audience, when he said that he had killed his wife and later a lover with an axe during an argument, News.com.au reported.

The 62-year-old man said on The Luck of The Draw that he had served prison term for both of the murders and is now honest person who is looking for a new wife.

Globular clusters rotate around common axis

While studying some of the oldest star clusters in our galaxy, astronomers from the University of Texas at Austin and Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) found that the stars at the centers of these clusters are rotating around a common axis.

It was previously thought any central rotation would have been long erased, leaving the central stars to random orbits.

These “globular clusters” are ancient collections of up to a million old stars with simple chemical compositions, tightly bound together by gravity.

Being forty never too late to start endurance training: Study

A new study suggests that 40 is not too old to start endurance training.

The study of healthy senior men has found that “relatively intensive” endurance exercise confers benefits on the heart irrespective of the age at which they began training.

The benefits were evident and comparable in those who had started training before the age of 30 or after the age of 40. As a result, the investigators said.

The study, which was performed in France, was reported at the EuroPRevent congress 2014 in Amsterdam by David Matelot, from the Inserm 1099 unit in Rennes, France.

Despite aspirin being known to prevent heart attacks and strokes for over 30 years, a new study suggests that it is still unclear as to who exactly should take it daily.

The research shows that your coronary artery calcium (CAC) score, a measurement of plaque in the arteries that feed the heart, may help determine whether or not you are a good candidate for aspirin.

“Many heart attacks and strokes occur in individuals who do not appear to be at high risk,” lead author, Michael D Miedema, MD, MPH said.

Being short could actually make you live longer than your peers, a new study suggests.

According to the research based on the Kuakini Honolulu Heart Program (HHP) and the Kuakini Honolulu-Asia Aging Study (HAAS), short height and long life have a direct connection in Japanese men.

“We split people into two groups – those that were 5-foot-2 and shorter, and 5-4 and taller,” Dr. Bradley Willcox, one of the investigators for the study and a Professor in the University of Hawaii (UH) John A. Burns School of Medicine’s Department of Geriatric Medicine said.

DGCA issues public notice on Tata-SIA Airlines permit issue

After granting flying license to AirAsia India, aviation regulator DGCA has now issued a public notice seeking objections, if any, to the grant of a similar permit to the proposed full-service carrier promoted by Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA).

A similar notice was issued under the Aircraft Rules of 1937 before the license was granted to AirAsia India. DGCA had rejected the objections and granted the license to AirAsia India on Wednesday.

Supertech to invest Rs 1,000 cr on housing project in Gurgaon

Realty firm Supertech today said it will invest Rs 1,000 crore over the next four years to develop a new project in Gurgaon.

It will be the company’s second project in Gurgaon.

Supertech will develop 2,092 housing units in this project named ‘Hues’ that is spread over nearly 28 acre.

“We have acquired 70 acres land in Gurgaon. In the first phase, we are launching a group housing project on 27.5 acre land comprising 2,092 housing units,” Supertech Chairman and Managing Director R K Arora told reporters.

India’s forex reserves surge $1.94 bn to $311.9 bn

Country’s foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 1.944 billion to USD 311.857 billion in the week ended May 2 on higher currency assets.

Last week, the total reserves rose by USD 499.8 million to USD 309.913 billion.

Foreign currency assets (FCAs), a major part of the overall reserves, surged USD 2.541 billion to USD 284.571 billion in the period, RBI said on Friday .

FCAs, expressed in dollar terms, include the effect of appreciation/depreciation of the non-US currencies such as the euro, pound and yen held in its reserves.

According to the study, viral proteins are essential for the assembly of newly produced infectious virions.

Indian-origin man injured in Philippines shooting

An Indian-origin man was seriously injured after he was shot by two gunmen riding a motorcycle in the Philippines, police said on Friday.

Sukhjinder Singh, 28, was heading home from his cousin’s place late Thursday in Zamboanga City in the Philippines’ southernmost island of Mindanao when the attack took place, the Mindanao Examiner reported.

Singh was shot twice in the head and body with a .45-calibre pistol and was immediately rushed to hospital, the police said.

Cars are more taxed than cigarettes in India: Honda Cars

Car major Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) Thursday said there is a “high” incidence of taxes on automobile sector, saying “cars are more taxed than cigarettes” in the country.

“Today if you look at incidence of taxes on car whether it is excise duty, CST, calamity tax, education cess, VAT, road tax..If you look at all these taxes on car, probably cars are more taxed than harmful things like cigarettes… taxation is extremely high,” company’s Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales), Jnaneswar Sen told reporters here.

Amul increases milk prices by Rs 2/litre in Delhi-NCR region

Dairy major Amul has increased milk prices in the Delhi-NCR region by Rs 2 a litre from Friday due to increase in cost of milk production.

It is also considering raising prices in other parts of the country.

“In recent past, there has been a substantial increase in raw material cost of cattle feed and labour costs, and this has led to increase in cost of milk production,” Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk under brand Amul, said.

Sensex crosses 23,000 points mark

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets surged more than 650 points Friday to touch a new life time high of 23,048.49 points on the back of growing optimism that Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be able to form a stable government post general elections that end next week.

This is the first time that the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) crossed 23,000 points in its history so far.
