Study shows Prostate cancer linked with sex

A study in the US has found that prostate cancer could be caused by a common infection passed on during intercourse, a leading English daily reported Tuesday.

A team of scientists at the University of California tested human prostate cells in a laboratory and found that a sexually transmitted non-viral infection called trichomoniasis supports cancer growth, The Independent reported.

Trichomoniasis is understood to have infected an estimated 275 million people around the world.

Tara Sawyer, from Wimblington, Cambs, who has had four babies of her own and carried three as a surrogate, said that she enjoyed being an expectant mum so much she refused to accept any payments for the babies she gave away, the Daily Star reported.

Pak political party blames ‘ISI within ISI’ for kidnappings, killings in country

An ‘ Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) within the ISI’ is involved in kidnapping and killings of innocent people across Pakistan, a conservative political party has said.

Commenting on a motion in the Senate regarding ongoing political situation in the country, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Hafiz Hamdullah said the ISI was behind the incidents of missing persons and mass graves in Balochistan.

Fire engulfs vegetable market in Patiala

A raging fire charred shops and inflicted huge losses upon traders as it engulfed a wholesale vegetable market in Patiala on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at 4.30 am in the city.

A vegetable vendor, Raju, said that all the vegetables and cash kept in shops were completely burned in the fire.

“The fire broke out somewhere in the backside and spread to the wholesale vegetable market in less than a minute. It has damaged goods and inflicted huge losses as all the cash kept in the shops has been burnt,” said Raju.

Dozens of fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the inferno.

Fire at Shastri Bhawan in Delhi

A fire broke out Wednesday morning on the seventh floor of Delhi’s Shastri Bhawan that houses some union ministeries, an official said.

The fire was reported at 9.40 a.m.

Eight fire tenders were rushed.

“We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the fire. No casualties have been reported so far,” a fire service official said.

The official added that the floor has been evacuated.IANS

Sued RIL to protect commercial interest, says ONGC

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) today said its surprise move to sue Reliance Industries for alleged “theft” of natural gas from its Bay of Bengal block, was to protect its “commercial interest”.

ONGC had on May 15 moved the Delhi High Court alleging that RIL may have drawn natural gas worth thousands of crores of rupees from its fields that sit next to Mukesh Ambani-run firm’s KG-D6 block Krishna Godavari basin.

Obama documentary maker Dinesh D’Souza pleads guilty in straw donor case

Dinesh D’Souza, the conservative scholar who made the documentary “2016: Obama’s America,” has reportedly pleaded guilty to charges of using straw donors to make 20,000 dollars in illegal contributions to Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long in 2012.

D’Souza entered the guilty plea the same day the US District Court in Manhattan was set to open his trial.

Vitamin E in canola and other oils linked to lung related problems

Researchers have found a link between Vitamin E in canola and other oils to the rising incidence of lung inflammation and, possibly, asthma.

The new study shows drastically different health effects of vitamin E depending on its form. The form of Vitamin E called gamma-tocopherol in the ubiquitous soybean, corn and canola oils is associated with decreased lung function in humans, the study reports.

The other form of Vitamin E, alpha-tocopherol, which is found in olive and sunflower oils, does the opposite. It associated with better lung function.

Re down 13 paise Vs dollar in early trade

The rupee today weakened by 13 paise to trade at 58.76 in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to increased dollar demand from importers.

A lower opening at the domestic equity market due to profit-booking, and dollar’s gain against euro overseas also put pressure on the rupee, traders said.

The rupee had retreated four paise from its 11-month high levels to close at 58.63 against the dollar yesterday on fresh demand for the US currency from importers, amid some profit- booking in stocks.

Sensex slips from record high; down 47 points in early trade

The BSE benchmark index Sensex today retreated from record by losing almost 47 points in early trade on profit-booking by speculators in oil and gas, PSUs and banking stocks, amid a weak trend in the global markets.

The 30-share barometer, which had gained over 562 points in the past four sessions after the BJP-led NDA swept the polls, shed 46.88 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 24,330.00.

Gavin Robertson, professor of pharmacology, pathology, dermatology, and surgery and director of the Penn State Hershey Melanoma Center, said to a cancer cell, resistance is like a traffic problem in its circuitry.

He said that cancer cells see treatment with a single drug as a road closure and use a detour or other roads to bypass the closure.

Penn State researchers may have solved this problem by identifying a drug that simultaneously creates many road closures.
