Karnataka seeks Centre nod for special courts to try land grabbing cases

Karnataka Government would try to prevail upon the Central government to allow it to set up special courts to try cases of encroachment of government land and to get Presidential nod for the Karnataka Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill, 2011, passed by the legislature.

“I will visit Delhi to meet the Union Home Secretary to prevail over the importance of setting up special courts to try cases of encroachment of government land and to get Presidential nod for the bill,” state Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters here.

Rupee up 10 paise to hit fresh 11-month high

Extending yesterday’s gain, the rupee today rose by another 10 paise to trade at a fresh 11-month high of 58.37 against the US dollar in early trade on increased selling of the American currency by exporters.

Increased selling of the dollar by banks and exporters amid sustained foreign capital inflows supported the rupee, dealers said.

Besides, a higher opening in the domestic equity market also helped the rupee, but dollar’s gain against other currencies overseas limited the rise, they added.

Sensex rises 121 points on capital inflows

Maintaining its upward trend, the benchmark BSE Sensex today rose further by over 121 points in early trade on the back of rally in realty, auto, power and capital goods sector stocks amid increased fund inflows.

Besides, a firming trend on other Asian markets supported the upside.

The 30-share Sensex spurted by 121.05 points, or 0.50 per cent, to trade at 24,495.45. The gauge had gained 76.38 points in yesterday’s trade.

The 50-share NSE Nifty also moved up by 22.90 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 7,299.30.

Parents make 11-yr-old toddler parasail in Kerela, case registered

A risky parasailing stunt forced upon a terrified 11-month-old infant, Niya Nizam, in Kannur district of Kerela landed the girl’s parents in legal trouble.

The toddler was made to sail alone while clinging desperately to an open parachute by her parents at an adventure sports event organised by an Aerosports Society in Muzhappilangad beach, leaving the onlookers aghast.

District Magistrate, P. Balakiran said legal action would be taken against those found responsible.

Indian consulate attacked in Afghanistan

The Indian consulate in Afghanistan was attacked Friday by unidentified gunmen and it still continues, an official said.

“All the staff of the Indian consulate are safe. The attack is continuing and further details can be given only once it stops,” Syed Akbaruddin, external affairs ministry spokesman, told IANS.

The gunmen tried to enter the consulate in Herat city and later fired from the neighbouring buildings. The attack started around 3.30 a.m., BBC reported.

No details of casualties have been reported yet.

Heavy rain, hailstorm lash Bangalore

Wednesday evening threw life out of gear in many parts of the City, mainly South Bangalore by down pouring heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm.

Several trees and electric poles were uprooted, which leads to the disruption in power supply and traffic jams and chaos on roads.

According to the BBMP officials, more than 30 trees were uprooted in Hanumantha Nagar, Girinagar, Chamarajpet, Basappa Circle, Banashankari, Basaveshwaranagar,Jagajivanram Nagar, Thyagarajanagar, Nagarbhavi and Vijayanagar.

T-natives boil with rage as 50 Seemandhra doctors on Telangana list

The Telangana Gandhi Doctors’ Association has registered a protest with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan following 50 doctors from Andhra region declaring them as part of Telangana.

The protesting doctors allege that even if these doctors from Gandhi Hospital were not from the region, they incorrectly put their nativity as Telangana.

The director of Health and Medical Education released a list of 560 doctors. The list is now being scrutinized by the T doctors who are checking whether there are false claims being made.

We fired in the air, claimed BSF jawans

The nine BSF jawans, who opened fire because of which three persons were killed during the May 14 communal clashes in Kishanbagh, have told the Cyberabad police teams investigating the case that they “only fired in the air“and hence “did not shoot down anybody.”

The jawans further said the investigators that they fired only 30 rounds as against the 100 spent cartridges of INSAS rifles that were reportedly found at the scene of the clashes.

According to police sources, the two communities come to blow over the burning of a religious flag.

Seemandhra to occupy Deccan Queen

As the officials have decided that `Deccan Queen’, an Albion bus, and a heritage asset of Nizam State Rail and Road Transport Department (NSR-RTD) kept at Pandit Nehru bus station in the city will remain the property of APSRTC in Seemandhra.

The NSR-RTD operated 27 Albion buses in 1932 all through the Nizam state as part of Nizam’s Guaranteed State Railway (NGSR).

Eatery in Mumbai delivers pizza using a drone

The financial capital, notorious for its traffic roar, has achieved a first in the country after a city-based pizza outlet used an unmanned drone to execute a delivery by taking the aerial route recently.

“All of us had read about (global e-commerce giant) Amazon’s plans of using drones. We successfully carried out a test-delivery by sending a pizza to a customer located 1.5 km away from our outlet on May 11,” Francesco’s Pizzeria chief executive Mikhel Rajani said.

He emphasized that this was only a test-flight but its results confirm that it can be used routinely in a few years.
