Rs 21 crore sanctioned for desilting works

In order to tackle water stagnation during the monsoon, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar has asked GHMC and police officials to conduct joint inspections before the onset of monsoon so that there would not be any water stagnation or traffic congestion during the monsoon period.

A review meeting was held by Somesh Kumar with zonal commissioners, traffic police and other senior officials from engineering and police on water stagnation points and potholes on Saturday.

KCR should act like a person in power: Naidu

On Saturday, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu take a strong exception to TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s comments on Seemandhra government employees and said the brand image of Hyderabad will receive a beating due to such `irresponsible’ remarks.

ATS picks up Bengaluru man concerning Chennai blasts

On Thursday, the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) officials have picked up a man from Bengaluru in connection with the twin blasts that took place in the Bangalore-Guwahati Express in Chennai on May 1.

Omax Autos Ltd forays into truck assembly

Auto component maker Omax Autos Ltd today announced its foray into full-fledged truck assembly with plans to roll out 10,000 units in three years from its Bangalore plant.

The firm has completed deliveries of an order of 20 vehicles for an undisclosed original equipment manufacturer.

“Upon completion of initial batch successfully, Omax will work with the customer to invest for developing, a focussed infrastructure for high volume assembly line,” Omax Autos Ltd President & CEO (passenger cars and commercial vehicles) Kishor Karnataki said in a statement.

Man kills mother for not serving lunch

A man killed his mother for not serving him lunch on time in Odisha’s Khurda district by smashing her head with a stone, police said Saturday.

The incident occurred Friday in Rayat Patna village, about 30 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, inspector-in-charge of Balipatna police station Surendra Kumar Bala told IANS.

Surendra Behera alias Sauria, 35, wanted his 60-year-old mother Lalita to offer him lunch on time and he became furious when he did not get it, Bala said.

Suzuki recalls GM-made small cars for fire problem

Suzuki is recalling more than 184,000 small cars in the US because the steering columns can catch fire.

The recall covers from 2004 through 2008 and Reno models from 2005 through 2008. Both vehicles were made for Suzuki by General Motors.

The Japanese automaker says the headlamp switch or daytime running light modules can overheat, melt and catch fire on the left side of the steering column.

The company will notify owners and fix the problem for free. It hasn’t scheduled the repairs yet.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap says he and estranged wife Kalki Koechlin are still good friends.

The 41-year-old filmmaker, who married Kalki in 2011, had announced separation last year in November but said they were not contemplating a divorce.

Man gets life term for killing wife for dowry in UP

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment while his parents were awarded a 10-year jail term by a court in neighbouring Saharanpur district for killing his wife for dowry.

Additional District Sessions Judge Chawan Parkash also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts Deepak, his father Ramesh and mother Urmila after holding them guilty under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and Dowry Act.

According to prosecution, Deepak’s wife Suman was killed over non-fulfilment of dowry demand in Nachal Ghar village in Saharanpur district on August 4, 2009.

Kiwi not related to emu as previously believed

Australia can no longer lay claim to the origins of the iconic New Zealand kiwi following University of Adelaide research, which shows that the kiwi’s closest relative is not the emu as was previously thought.

Instead, the diminutive kiwi is most closely related to the extinct Madagascan elephant bird – a 2-3 metre tall, 275 kg giant. And surprisingly, the study concluded, both of these flightless birds once flew.

A new study suggests that fruit flies “think” before they act.

The study by researchers from the University of Oxford’s Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour showed that fruit flies take longer to make more difficult decisions.

In experiments asking fruit flies to distinguish between ever closer concentrations of an odour, the researchers found that the flies don’t act instinctively or impulsively. Instead they appear to accumulate information before committing to a choice.

They found stopping pain signals reaching the brain increased the chance of them living longer, the Daily Star reported.

Google offers best pay and benefits to employees, leaving Apple, Microsoft behind: Survey

A new survey from Glassdoor has reportedly revealed that Google offers the best pay and benefits to its employees.

The survey is based on rankings voluntarily submitted by employees at each company.

According to The Verge, the tech titan offers an average base salary of 1,28,000 dollars to its engineers, whereas other companies like Facebook and Micrsoft pay 1,20,000 and 1,11,000 dollars, respectively.

Besides the good pay, Google also offers numerous other perks such as gourmet meals, luxurious surroundings, stocks and more, the report added. (ANI)

Move over pizza delivery by drones. Now, a drone can take your dog on a morning walk while you can continue with sweet dreams in bed.

Jeff Meyers, an interaction designer living in New York, has posted a video on vimeo.com where one can clearly see a drone taking his Golden Retriever dog on a walk.

Meyers hooked the dog with a drone and then monitored the walk using a camera as well as tracking the animal on a map using a GPS device, media reports said.
