SC stays execution of 1993 Mumbai blast accused Yakub Memon

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the execution of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts main accused Yakub Memon.

Television reports said the apex court gave a reprieve to Yakub Memon in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

The Supreme Court had tagged Yakub’s petition-seeking a stay on his execution-with pending cases and referred it to a constitution bench, which will decide whether the review petition should be heard in an open court.

I want to make acting my bread and butter: Sharib Hashmi

After featuring in supporting roles, actor Sharib Hashmi found his big ticket as a lead character in “Filmistaan”. He says he has now decided to stick to acting and wants to make it his bread and butter.

Sharib’s height posed a problem for him.

“I wanted to be an actor, but I couldn’t be one because my height was just 5’4. I realized that even the supporting actors were taller than me. But, I was secretly nurturing the desire of becoming an actor,” Sharib said here.

Study reveals stress degrades sperm quality

A new study has revealed that psychological stress is harmful to sperm and semen quality, affecting its concentration, appearance, and ability to fertilize an egg.

According to a study led by researchers Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and Rutgers School of Public Health, men who feel stressed are more likely to have lower concentrations of sperm in their ejaculate, and the sperm they have are more likely to be misshapen or have impaired motility, which may diminish fertility.

Sebi plan: Govt stands to rake in Rs 50k-cr plus

The government can rake in more than Rs 50,000 crore through stake sales in about 30 PSUs if a new Sebi proposal requiring minimum 25 per cent public holding in all listed firms passes muster with the Finance Ministry.

While private sector listed companies are already required to maintain minimum 25 per cent public shareholding, this limit for state-run listed entities currently stands at 10 per cent.

Capital markets regulator Sebi has now proposed that the 25 per cent limit be applied to the listed PSUs as well and has written to Finance Ministry regarding the same.

Seven bodies found in Pakistan

At least seven bodies were recovered Monday in Pakistan’s Karachi city, media reported.

The victims were shot in the head as well as in the chest, Dawn online reported citing rescue workers.

All seven bodies had torture marks and their hands and legs were tied with ropes, rescue workers said.

The bodies, which have not been identified yet, were shifted to a nearby hospital, the report said.IANS

Jet Airways may lease three planes to Etihad

Naresh Goyal-promoted Jet Airways is likely to lease three of its Boeing 777-300 ERs to its equity partner Etihad Airways after they return from Turkish Airlines later this year, according to sources.

Jet was earlier planning to induct these wide-bodied planes, which are on lease with Turkish Airlines and will be coming back by October this year on completion of the lease period.

However after Etihad’s proposal, it shelved the plan, they said.

Google set to unveil Android TV platform at Google I/O

DLF posts Rs 219.68 cr net profit during Jan-Mar quarter

Marking a turnaround, country’s largest realty firm DLF on Thursday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 219.68 crore for the quarter ended March 31 against a net loss of Rs 4.19 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income from operations fell by 11.5 percent to Rs 1,969.45 crore in the fourth quarter of last fiscal compared with Rs 2,225.55 crore in the corresponding quarter of previous year.

The company posted the net profit in March 2014 quarter on the back of sharp jump in other income at Rs 552.15 crore from Rs 93.24 crore during the period under review.

Researchers have found that high consumption of sugary drinks is associated with low sperm motility, or sperm movement – but this was true only for healthy, lean men.

The researchers found no relationship between sugary drink consumption and sperm motility in overweight or obese men.

Man with stolen GPS calls police for help after getting lost

A man from US, who stole GPS (Global Positioning System), was arrested after he called police to ask them for help because he got lost.

Andrew James Joffe was unaware that a warrant had been issued for his arrest on driving offences when he contacted the authorities in Polk City, Florida, Metro.co.uk reported.

Grady Judd, Sheriff of Polk County said that they had people with warrants who called them to turn themselves in before, but it was unusual for someone with an active warrant, who just burgled a car, to get lost and calling them for help.

According to the Sunday People, to avoid chaos in between the aircraft cabin crew has to use some bizarre methods to hide the dead body, the Mirror reported.

A woman trainer told that earlier they used to mask them with vodka and tonic, a newspaper and eye shades but now they just cover up the body with blanket up to the neck.

Japan encourages casual dress in workplace to save energy

The Japanese government Monday started a campaign to encourage people to dress casually in workplace in a move to avoid excessive use of air conditioners to save energy.

In contrast to common impression of Japanese workers who are always in suits with ties, the “Super Cool Biz” campaign is an improved version of the “Cool Biz” started 10 years ago, which allowed government employees to work without wearing usual suits, Xinhua reported.

During the “Super Cool Biz” period, workers are allowed to wear polo shirts, sneakers and even Hawaiian aloha shirts in offices.
