KCR promise of ‘Free education KG to PG’ will soon be implemented: Mr Jagadish Reddy

On Monday, Education minister G. Jagadish Reddy and excise minister T. Padma Rao Goud assumed office at the Secretariat.

Mr Jagadish Reddy maintained that the TRS government will implement free education from KG to PG as vowed in the election manifesto whereas Mr Padma Rao said the present excise policy will continue for the time being and changes will be implemented after discussions in the Cabinet.

Indus Media Entertainment, a Singapore-based firm is set to launch a first-of-its-kind Rs.300-crore offshore fund called Indus Media Capital, which will invest in South Indian films and Hollywood.

This five-year fund which will be soon launched in September will be based in Mauritius and target 20-30 investors, including HNIs (high net-worth individuals) and Indians with media business interests.

UK allowed raids in schools to impede jihadi game plan

David Cameron, British Prime Minister on Monday authorized no-notice raids in schools to deal with the threats of extremism after a plot by Islamist extremists to take over the running of some schools across Birmingham was confirmed.

A query in 21 schools in the city revealed that five did not do enough to protect students from extremism and put on “shows of cultural inclusivity “during inspections. The country’s schools inspectorate, the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), confirmed the so-called `Operation Trojan Horse’.

Frequent power cuts in Old City

The Old City has been reeling under impromptu power cuts at night for about a week. In spite of several complaints to officials of the Central Power Distribution Company (CPDCL), inhabitants have had no relief so far.

Mohammed Ghouse from Shah Gunj said, “There has been no power supply for around two hours between 10 pm and 12 am for the past eight to 10 days. There was a power cut last night from 11 pm to 12 am. Residents of the area registered several complaints at the Charminar office, but after some time, the CPDCL officials are locking the doors. We are fed up.”

Another girl gang raped, killed in Uttar Pradesh

Yet another girl, a 13-year-old, was gang raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, police said Tuesday.

Two accused have been arrested and are being interrogated. The incident took place Monday in Sabdalpur Rehra village. The girl was strangulated to death after being raped by the assailants. Her body was found in a sugarcane field, said police.

US did not inform Pak on Osama raid because of ISI: Clinton

The US decided not to inform Pakistan about its top-secret mission to kill Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad as it knew that elements in spy agency ISI maintained close ties with the al-Qaeda and the Taliban, according to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Sensex slips 141 points from all-time high on profit-booking

Mayawati demands president’s rule in ‘lawless’ Uttar Pradesh

Key witness in Asaram case dies in Ahmedabad

Asaram’s former aide and key witness in the rape case against him, Amrit Prajapati, passed away in an Ahmedabad hospital on Monday.

Prajapati had been in a critical condition since May 23, when he was shot at by an unidentified man in his Rajkot clinic. He had slipped into a coma after the fatal shooting.

Prajapati was a former associate of Asaram and was apparently privy to many details regarding the self-styled godman. (ANI)

Cinematographer Ashok Kumar critically ill, hospitalized

Ace southern cinematographer Ashok Kumar Agarwal is battling for life in the intensive care unit of a private hospital here for over a month with health-related issues, his son Akash Ashok Kumar said.

“My father, cinematographer-director Ashok Kumar Agarwal, has been suffering from health related issues for the past one month and is currently recuperating in ICU at SRM Hospital,” Akash said in a statement.

While reasons for his illness are unknown, hospital sources claim that his condition is not stable.

Consumer durables makers expect good sales this summer

Backed by positive market sentiment, soaring temperature and new product launches, consumer durables companies expect to clock good sales growth this summer.

“Sales are expected to be much better this year. There is a lot of positivity in the market. We expect to grow by about 35 per cent this calender year,” Haier India President Eric Braganza told PTI.

Haier had introduced over 65 products in four categories washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners and television panels this year. It plans to launch seven more products by next month.

Domestic car sales up 3.08 per cent, bikes 11.71 per cent in May

Domestic passenger car sales grew by 3.08 per cent to 1,48,577 units last month as compared with 1,44,132 units in May 2013.

According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), motorcycle sales in May this year grew by 11.71 per cent to 9,84,469 units as against 8,81,288 units in the year-ago period.

Total two-wheeler sales during the month grew by 16.3 per cent to 14,02,830 units from 12,06,173 units in the same period of the previous year.

55-yr-old ‘Dark side of the Moon’ mystery solved

The Man in the Moon appeared when meteoroids struck the Earth-facing side of the Moon creating large flat seas of basalt that we see as dark areas called maria.

But no “face” exists on farside of the Moon and now, Penn State astrophysicists think they know why.

This mystery is called the Lunar Farside Highlands Problem and dates back to 1959, when the Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 transmitted the first images of the “dark” side of the Moon back to Earth.

15-month-old girl sacrificed to unearth hidden treasure

A 15-month old girl was recently sacrificed with a desire to unearth hidden treasure at the nearby Firozabad fort, and seven persons including her father have been arrested in connection with the crime, a top police official today said.

“Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the case, father of the girl is one among them, they are said to have committed the crime with a desire to unearth treasure in the fort, about 34 km from here, but did not find anything”, Gulbarga SP Amit Singh told PTI.

A woman IT professional from Jharkhand was allegedly raped on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in Electronics City police station limits here.

“Yes. We have received a complaint. A Jharkhand IT employee was raped at her PG (paying guest accommodation) on the intervening night between Thursday and Friday at about 3 am,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kamal Panth told a news agency.

Karnataka CM opposes TN’s demand for Cauvery Management Board

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday opposed the formation of Cauvery Management Board (CMB) as sought by his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa when she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week.

Siddaramaiah said civil appeals against the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal filed by riparian Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are still pending in the Supreme Court and as such no move should be made to form CMB.

NBCC offers new housing projects across country

The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) is offering new housing projects across the country in the coming months besides working on plans to redevelop as “green complexes” three government colonies in the Capital.

The NBCC also announced a net profit of Rs 257 crore for 2013-14, an increase of 24 percent over that of 2012-13.

Addressing a press Conference here on Friday, CMD of NBCC Anoop Kumar Mittal said that housing projects for general public are underway in Gurgaon, Khekra (near Delhi), Patna and Kochi.
