Buyers of flats in some parts of Noida will have to mark time as the Supreme Court Tuesday declined to interfere with an NGT order restraining the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority from issuing completion certificates in respect of structures falling within 10 km of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary.

An apex court bench of Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Justice C. Nagappan Tuesday declined the plea by the Jaypee Infratech Ltd. challenging the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which said no completion certificate will be issued to projects within 10 km of the sanctuary.

Angelina Jolie says being survivor of sexual violence isn’t shameful

Angelina Jolie opened up about ending sexual violence during the London summit saying that “there is no disgrace in being a survivor of sexual violence”.

The 39-year-old actress, who’s also an UN special envoy, was co-hosting the summit along with British foreign secretary William Hague , and described rape as one of the “great mass crimes” of modern times, the BBC reported.

Jolie dedicated the day to one of the rape victims she had recently interviewed in Bosnia, who felt humiliated and abandoned at seeing her culprit roaming free.

Police allows nightlife till 1 am in Bangalore

It’s three cheers to thousands of Bangaloreans who can soon party till 1 am throughout the week, thanks to the police permitting bars and restaurants to serve liquor and food past midnight for a year.

“We have no objection if the state government permits nightlife in Bangalore by allowing bars and pubs to serve liquor till 1 am all days of the week,” Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told reporters here late Tuesday.

The Cauvery water-sharing dispute on Tuesday created an uproar in Lok Sabha today after an AIADMK member referred to it during a debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address.

As AIADMK Leader M Thambidurai drew the attention of Union Minister and BJP leader from Karnataka Ananth Kumar to the issue, the Minister, who hails from Karnataka, termed the matter as “sub-judice”. He was supported by members of all parties from Karnataka.

Thambidurai referred to the water row while underlining the need for linking of rivers. Trouble started after he referred to Kumar.

Actor-producer Uday Chopra is glad that his “Mujhse Dosti Karoge” co-star Rani Mukerji is now his “bhabhi” (sister-in-law), and says she’s always been a well-wisher for him.

Rani married Uday’s elder brother Aditya Chopra in Italy in April.

“They have got married and she’s part of our family. We have welcomed her and her family. She is certainly a homemaker,” Uday told IANS.

An NGO working for protection of men’s rights has come up with a unique mobile application and a dedicated helpline number to help men in distress.

Save India Family Foundation, the NGO whose Kolkata chapter is known as “Hridaya-Nest”, developed the app keeping in mind a growing tribe of males who are becoming victims of the alleged misuse of Section 498a of the IPC and anti-rape laws.
The app named ‘SIF’ was launched in April.

Can animals fall in love with humans? They do, but in the case of a female animal researcher the chemistry between her and a male dolphin was well beyond just love.

In a new BBC documentary titled “The Girl Who Talked to Dolphins”, Margaret Howe Lovatt has explained what happened when she tried to teach a bottlenose dolphin named Peter how to speak English during a NASA funded experiment in 1965.

Lovatt, then 23, was stationed on the US Virgin Islands with a male dolphin where the two of them would eat, bathe and sleep together.

Peter apparently fell in love with her.

Idea, IOC tie up to service 82 mn LPG customers

Idea Cellular and IOC have entered into a partnership that will allow over 82 million LPG consumers of Indane to book LPG 24×7 on mobile phones and get delivery status updates via IVR and SMS.

As part of the agreement, that is valid for two years, Idea will extend its ‘smart gas solution’ service to enable end-to-end automation on refill delivery process of IOC.

Daimler India enters Bangladesh market

German commercial vehicle maker Daimler’s Indian subsidiary has forayed into Bangladesh market by launching FUSO Trucks manufactured at its plant here, making it the sixth overseas destination.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicle, the Indian arm of Stuttgart-based Daimler AG, along with Daimler Group company Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, launched FUSO Trucks, in Bangladesh making it as the sixth strategic market since beginning of exports in May 2013.

AirAsia India set to begin operations from tomorrow

The domestic aviation space is all set to witness severe competition with the entry of AirAsia India, which starts operation from Thursday.

AirAsia India, the Indian arm of the Malaysian no-frills airline headed by Tony Fernandes, will become the fourth budget carrier in the country — after IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir — once its maiden flight takes off from Bangalore to Goa at 1510 hours on Thursday.

Shoe factory catches fire in Agra

The third floor of a shoe factory which caught fire in Agra was brought under control by Wednesday morning. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze.

The floor which caught fire had chemicals stored in it.

The factory is also located very close to a petrol pump and efforts were on to prevent the fire from spreading any further.

There were reports of small blasts emanating from the factory too. (ANI)

Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is believed to have sought views of new Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on appointment of B Ashok as the head of India’s largest oil firm, IOC.

B Ashok, Executive Director (Retail Sales) at Indian Oil Corp (IOC), was on October 9, 2013 chosen to head the company by government headhunters Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), but the previous UPA government could not appoint him before its tenure ended.

Google announces to buy satellite maker Skybox for USD 500 mn

Internet search provider Google has entered into an agreement to buy satellite maker Skybox for USD 500 million in cash.

The deal is expected to make the search engine giant to serve as a launching pad to send its own satellite to take aerial pictures and provide online access to remote areas of the world.

Skybox’s satellites will help keep Google Maps accurate with up-to-date imagery, the Silicon Valley-based company said in a statement yesterday.

‘Adorkable’ new geek word added to Collins English Dictionary

The new geek word ” Adorkable” has been included in the Collins English Dictionary, it has been revealed.

The Dictionary held a contested vote for a geeky innovative word that would earn a spot in the book and people voted massively through Twitter to make the word ‘adorkable’ the winner, CNet reported.

The definition of the word given in the dictionary is “socially inept or unfashionable in a charming or endearing way”.

The word received around 30 percent of votes beating out the word felfie’s that earned 22 percent. (ANI)
