Taliban could move to India, Gulf: Pakistan FM

Pakistan’s foreign minister called for more international aid to combat extremists, saying that the Taliban could otherwise move into neighboring India and as far as the Gulf, as Pakistani forces killed dozens more suspected militants in tribal areas on Monday.

“They (militants) have a global agenda, they have a regional agenda, they are not confined to Pakistan. They could go into the Gulf, they could go into India, they can go anywhere,” Shah Mehmoud Qureshi said in an interview published Monday by the Financial Times.

Woman constable murdered in city , police suspects husband

Hyderabad, June 14: A woman constable was allegedly murdered by her husband here on Sunday at city outskirts and he remained untraceable emerged as the prime suspect in the case, police said.

Kusum Kumari (38) attached to Charminar police here was found dead in her house at Kukatpally area here this morning with blunt injuries on her face even as her husband Bikshapati, an autodriver who is suspected to have “killed” her is absconding after the incident, Kukatpally police said.

Iran’s Ahmadinejad wins presidential election with majority of votes

Tehran, June 13: Iranian incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has won the 10th presidential election with the majority of votes, the official IRNA news agency reported on Saturday.

By getting more than 75 percent of votes in the rural areas of the country, Ahmadinejad determinately wins the election, the IRNA said.

The report came just minutes after Iran’s reformist candidate and former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi called himself “definite winner” in the presidential election.

Washington, June 11: Israeli TV newscasters Tuesday night interpreted a photo taken Monday in the Oval Office of President Obama talking on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an “insult” to Israel.

They saw the incident as somewhat akin to an incident last year, when the Iraqi reporter threw a shoe at President Bush in Baghdad.

It is considered an insult in the Arab world to show the sole of your shoe to someone. It is not a Jewish custom necessarily, but Israel feels enough a part of the Middle East after 60 years to be insulted too.

Daylight robbery in Hyderabad, 16 lakhs robbed from Private employee

Jerusalem, June 10: Friedman, who today travels the country as a Chabad speaker, showed a less warm and cuddly side when he was asked how he thinks Jews should treat their Arab neighbors.

“The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle),” Friedman wrote in response to the question posed by Moment Magazine for its “Ask the Rabbis” feature.

FBI Informants in US mosques

Washington, June 09: FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday defended the agency’s use of informants within U.S. mosques, despite complaints from Muslim organizations that worshippers and clerics are being targeted instead of possible terrorists.

Mueller’s comments came just days after a Michigan Muslim organization asked the Justice Department to investigate complaints that the FBI is asking the faithful to spy on Islamic leaders and worshippers. Similar alarm followed the disclosure earlier this year that the FBI planted a spy in Southern California mosques.

10 year old Kidnapped boy murdered

Hyderabad, June 08: In a gruesome incident a 10 year old boy who was kidnapped 20 days ago was murdered in city outskirts by his father’s business partner. Syed Osman Quadri who is the son of Syed Waheed Pasha Quadri was kidnapped on May 20 from Qazipura area and a case was registered in the Shahalibanda Police station.

Clinton dismisses Israel’s claims for settlements

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton dismissed on Friday arguments that Israel and the Bush administration had an understanding under which Israel could keep expanding Jewish settlements on the West Bank.

Dov Weisglass, chief of staff to former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, said in an op-ed piece published this week in the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot that the Bush administration and Israel had an understanding under which Israel could expand settlements within their existing boundaries.

Dawood injured in firing at Karachi

Karachi, June 05: According to unconfirmed reports, wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Anees Ibrahim has allegedly been shot dead by unidentified assailants in Karachi late last night. Elder brother Dawood was also injured in the shootout, however, the degree of injuries are yet to be confirmed.

Sources revealed that the assassination bid is being attributed to members of the Bhatti faction, a local gang that has an interest in controlling the drug trade in Pakistan. It is believed that the Bhatti gang is associated with Dawood’s arch rival the Chota Rajan gang.

U.S. ‘role model’ to Muslims: Obama

Offering a glimpse of his much-anticipated speech to Muslims across the globe, US president Barack Obama said he will try to introduce, rather than impose, the United States and its set of “universal” values as a role model to the Muslim world.

“The thing that we can do most importantly is serve as a good role model,” Obama told, only two days before his speech on US-Muslim relations.

In the interview, Obama said he believes that “American” and Western values in general could be shared with the Muslim world.

‘SIX WAYS TO KILL CLASSMATE’: Schoolgirls make YouTube video

A cartoon YouTube video set to a Hannah Montana song made waves over the weekend for its whimsical depiction of numerous ways to murder a sixth grade schoolgirl.

The video was made by girls at a Spanaway, Washington school who apparently had a falling out with a classmate, Piper. The clip carries illustrations of Piper being shot, made to commit suicide, thrown off a cliff and poisoned.

“I was horrified,” Beth Smith, Piper’s mother, told KING5.

One of Bollywood’s most popular singers, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, finds himself embroiled in a communal controversy for badmouthing the Muslim practice of namaaz and terming a reputed Indian advocate “a member of Taliban”.

The singer, who owns three flats at the Versova Breeze building in Andheri, Mumbai, has apparently been letting out his flats to a large group since more than two years, with about 40-50 people staying in them at a time and without obtaining the mandatory permission from the society or getting a police verification done.

Israelis may leave if Iran gets bomb

Almost a quarter of Israel’s seven million citizens would consider leaving the country if Iran becomes a nuclear military power, according to a new poll.

The poll also shows that over 40 per cent of Israelis believe that their military forces should strike Iran’s nuclear installations without waiting to see whether US President Barack Obama’s plans for diplomatic engagement with Tehran work or not.
