But when those meters give the go-ahead to passwords like Password1+, their effectiveness is called into question.

New research from Concordia University exposes the weakness of password strength meters, and shows consumers should remain sceptical when the bar turns green in order to create strong passwords.

Google to improve scrolling problems in Chrome with Microsoft’s Pointer events

Google has announced its decision to adopt a standard that would allow both mouse and touch navigation for its Chrome browser.

The move is aimed at addressing poor scrolling performance and general touch support in Chrome on a Windows tablet. However, the change will apply to all versions of Google Chrome, reported The Verge.

The company has said that in order to improve Chrome, it will support Pointer Events, a standard that was first brought in by Microsoft in Internet Explorer.

NASA’s Opportunity Mars Rover has recently completed the first 42.195 kilometers marathon milestone on Mars in 11 years and two months, after its January 2004 landing in Eagle Crater.

The vehicle surpassed marathon distance of 26.219 miles (42.195 kilometers) with a drive completed on March 24, 2015, during the 3,968th Martian day, or sol, of Opportunity’s work on Mars.

Autoplay function introduced by Twitter

Online social networking Twitter has started testing autoplay videos in their feed in iPhone, iPad Apps.

Twitter has started this as part of a two-pronged test that the company is conducting to see whether people are more likely to watch a video when it starts playing automatically as it does on Facebook, as opposed to the current model requiring a click to play, as it does in YouTube.

Now, comments from Reddit can be embedded on internet

Reddit comments from any public subreddit can now be embedded anywhere else online, allowing people to highlight specific comments and conversations.

According to the Verge, embedded comments can give Reddit a bigger presence in online conversations, allowing people to click through an embedded comment and head back to Reddit. This will help Reddit by having new visitors to the site.

Facebook may come up with option to let users read sites without leaving it

Facebook has been reportedly planning to find an option to let its users read popular news sites without leaving it.

The social media site has been in talks with various publications including Buzzfeed, National Geographic, and The New York Times, to post their content directly, which would mean the stories won’t appear as links in the News Feed but their content could be shared or liked without leaving Facebook, The Verge reported.

Huawei launches two e-brand phones

Global smartphone maker Huawei on Tuesday said it has launched two 4G capable smartphones under its brand, Honor, available exclusively on an e-commerce portal and its site.

“We have clocked sales of over 20 million Honor phones in 2014, accounting for a global revenue of about $2.4 billion with a 24 times increase. Honor has been expanding aggressively in global markets, and has successfully launched in 57 global markets within 6 months in 2014, entering the bestselling charts in most of the European countries we launched,” the company’s brand president George Zhao said in a statement.

Mars Orbiter mission extended for another six months

India’s maiden Mars Orbiter mission was extended for another six months on Tuesday to further explore the Red Planet and its atmosphere, a senior official said here.

“As the 1,340 kg Mars Orbiter has sufficient fuel (37 kg) to last longer than it was intended earlier, its mission has been extended for another six months,” the senior official of the Indian space agency told IANS.

The historic mission has completed six months of orbiting the Red Planet.

Solar system once harboured ‘super-earths’

Researchers at the California Institute of Technology have found that our solar system may have once harboured super-earths – planets larger than the Earth but smaller than Neptune.

It means that the Earth belongs to a second generation of planets.

Those early super-earths are long gone – broken up and fallen into the Sun billions of years ago largely due to a great inward-and-then-outward journey that Jupiter made early in the solar system’s history, said the paper published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

The study, published in the journal Nature Communications, found that when the chemical, Sodium formate, is used in combination with a metal-based cancer treatment it can greatly increase its ability to shutdown cancer cells.

Danish researchers identify key protein

In a first, researchers from the University of Copenhagen have identified a key protein that can prove relevant for research into diseases such as diabetes, arteriosclerosis and sclerosis.

The team has managed to develop a secure way of measuring the protein apo-M in our blood.

“We know that apo-M is of importance to the development of arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. Previously, we have discovered that apo-M carries a small fatty molecule, S1P, which plays a part in both diabetes and sclerosis,” explained associate professor Christina Christoffersen.
