Two Australian boys nabbed for attack on Indian student

Police in Australia Tuesday nabbed and charged two suspects over a vicious assault on two Indian students, one of whom is now lying in coma.

The victim, Manriajwinder Singh, 20, of Reservoir, a suburb in Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria, was nearly beaten to death by a gang in a city park Sunday.

Police Tuesday arrested three teenagers for the attack, The Age reported.

Indian tourists flock to Australia

Indian tourists are flocking to Australia to see its beauty, taking the total number of overseas travellers from the region to over 134,000 from January to October this year, according to a report.

A total of 13,400 rpt 13,400 visitors from India visited Australia during October this year, an increase of 9.5 per cent as compared to the same period last year.

Visitor arrivals from India were predicted to rise by 7.5 per cent and 7.6 per cent to 1,63,800 in 2012-13 and 176,300 in 2013-14 respectively, according to Tourism Australia’s Tourism Forecast Committee report.

One arrested for attack on Indian student in Australia

The Indian consulate in Melbourne is in touch with police and kin of an Indian student who was attacked and is in coma in a hospital. One suspect has been arrested.

The Indian ministry of external affairs said Tuesday in New Delhi that its consulate is in touch with the hospital, the police and the brother of the attacked student, Manriajwinder Singh, 20.

Singh was with two friends when he was assaulted by a group of eight men and one woman over the weekend at Princess Bridge in Birrarung Marr park in Melbourne.

Punjab youths in Abu Dhabi jail; family seeks their release

The family members of fifteen Punjabi youths, who have been languishing in a jail in Abu Dhabi since November 30, met Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna today and sought his intervention in this matter.

The youths, who had gone to Abu Dhabi in search of livelihood, have been imprisoned at Al Wathba jail there following a clash between two groups.

Majority of their parents came to know of their incarceration from their friends.

A deputation of parents of eight youths met the RS MP and urged him to use his office to get them released at the earliest.

Indian student assaulted in Australia

A 20-year-old Indian student in Australia suffered serious injuries after he was brutally attacked with stick and robbed by thugs here.

Manrajwinder Singh from Reservoir landed in the hospital with serious injuries after a gang attacked him yesterday.

According to local police statement today, the?man was sitting near the footpath with two other friends, east of Princess Bridge, when they were approached by eight men, perceived to be of African appearance.

The offenders assaulted Singh by kicking him on the head and hitting him with a stick.

7 Indians deported from Saudi for visa violation

Seven Indian workers have been deported from Saudi Arabia for visa violation, reports said today.

Some of the workers violated visa regulations intentionally, while the rest were cheated by their sponsors.

They were deported after being released from the Abha detention centre in Asir province on Thursday, Arab News reported.

Four of them flew home Friday morning.

“Of a total of 22 Indian inmates in the Abha detention center, only seven are eligible to return home,” said Indian social worker Ashraf Kutichal.

Seven Indians released by Saudi deportation authorities

Seven Indian workers, who were detained for staying in Saudi Arabia in violation of visa laws, were released from the Abha detention centre in Asir province.

The workers, some of whom were in violation of visa regulations and the rest cheated by their sponsors, were released Thursday, Arab News reported Sunday.

Four of them flew home Friday morning.

“Of a total of 22 Indian inmates in the detention centre, only seven were eligible to return home,” Indian social worker Ashraf Kutichal said.

Dubai doctors to perform surgeries in Indian villages

A team led by an Indian-origin plastic surgeon from Dubai will perform free operations on children with cleft lips and acid burn victims in several villages in India next month.

About 45 operations will be done in two days in January by the group led by Sanjay Parashar, a reputed plastic surgeon in Dubai.

They will perform the surgeries in villages near Nagpur, Maharashtra, The National daily reported.

The team comprises two plastic surgeons from Nagpur, a doctor from Australia and another specialist from Dubai.

Indians threatened in Bahrain asked to approach authorities

Indian workers who face threats from their employers in Bahrain should immediately approach the authorities, India’s ambassador to Bahrain Mohan Kumar has said.

“If there is any explicit threat a person faces, they should visit the nearest police station and inform the embassy,” the Gulf Daily News quoted the ambassador as saying.

“They should not accept any bodily threats,” he said Friday during the monthly Open House.

An Indian worker had complained about being threatened by his employer after asking for his passport.

UK funeral for Indian-origin doctor who died in Syria

The funeral of a 32-year-old Indian-origin British doctor who died under mysterious circumstances in a Syrian prison will take place here.

Shah Abbas Khan was days from being freed when the Syrian government announced on December 17 that he had committed suicide.

His family, however, believes he was murdered.

The orthopaedic surgeon from south London was arrested within 48 hours of arriving in Syria in November last year to work in a field hospital in a rebel-controlled area.

Indian man drowns in UAE

A 23-year-old Indian drowned while swimming in the Arabian sea in Fujairah, UAE, police said.

The man, identified only by his initials A.M.M., was swimming along with two other friends near a hotel Wednesday when the incident happened, Khaleej Times reported Thursday.

Rescue personnel and policemen rushed to the sea and fished out the man’s body.

Police are investigating the incident while the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem.

Fujairah Police has urged all sea-goers to be extra cautious.

Singapore group seeks clarification on Indian deportations

Civil society group Workfair Singapore, which works for the welfare of local and migrant workers, has asked the law ministry to clarify why Indians who had charges dropped against them for alleged rioting were eventually deported.

As many as 57 Indian nationals, allegedly involved in the Dec 8 riot in the Little India area, have been sent home, Today Online reported Wednesday.

Police said even though charges against four Indians were dropped, their involvement in the mayhem was deemed serious enough for repatriation.

Indian student”s death under investigation by Sharjah police

The Sharjah police has launched an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Indian student in Al Bardi, who was found hanging from a rope in her bedroom. The Eastern Region Police received a call from a police officer on Sunday claiming that a young woman”s body of Indian nationality had been brought to the hospital by her father, who claimed that he was shocked to see his only child hanging in her bedroom, Gulf News reports. The student”s father has been taken into police custody, the report added.
