Ambassador visits Naif Arab University for Security Science (NAUS).The Ambassador of India H.E. Mr. Hamid Ali Rao today visited Naif Arab University for Security Science (NAUSS) and met with Dr. Jamaan Ben Ragosh, resident of NAUSS.

Ambassador took a tour of the University and also met with the faculty members. During the meeting, prospects of bilateral cooperation between and NAUSS and Indian institutes dealing with security sciences, strategic studies and
defence studies were taken up. Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Sibi George, Minister/ Deputy Chief of Mission.

Indian-origin man jailed for drink-driving

A court in New Zealand has sentenced an Indian-origin man to a 25-month jail term for violating the drink-driving rule as many as five times.

The Manukau district court in Auckland Monday handed down the jail sentence to Lakhwinder Singh, 31, after he pleaded guilty to three charges of drink-driving and three of dangerous driving causing injury, Fairfax New Zealand media reported Tuesday.

Singh, from Papatoetoe locality in the city, was seen driving erratically through south Auckland Oct 7 last year with other vehicles swerving out of his way as he repeatedly crossed the centre-line.

Indian in Dubai denies molestation charge

An Indian man, charged with molesting a woman from Philippines while she was shopping, denied the charge in a court here Tuesday.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that the 26-year-old man, a plumber and identified by the initials of his name, FF, slapped the woman on her behind while she was shopping at Nesto Supermarket in Jebel Ali here, The National reported.

The prosecutor said that the defendant assaulted the 34-year-old victim Aug 9 last year.

“I was picking some vegetables I needed when a man passing behind me suddenly slapped me on my behind,” the Filipina said.

Indian-American student found dead in Philadelphia

An Indian-American youth, who found his parents shot to death in their home seven years ago, has himself been found dead in Philadelphia, according to media reports.

The body of 20-year-old Pulkit Singh, a student at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, was discovered on January 12 in his off-campus room, Newsday website reported.

The cause of death is being investigated by Philadelphia Health Department and campus police.

Senior AAP leader in Gulf to woo NRIs

The Aam Aadmi Party is trying to woo NRIs in the UAE, with a senior party leader paying a visit to the Gulf country to interact with the Indian expatriates.

“We want to create a citizen’s voice and not play on any religious card. Corruption has no religion and mis-governance has no caste. Also, poverty and illiteracy have no religious colour,” Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, who was in the UAE last week, was quoted as saying in the local media.

Ilmi was in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to attend the alumni functions of the Jamia Millia Islamia and the Aligarh Muslim University.

Indian American student found dead in Philadelphia

An Indian American student, who found his parents shot to death in their family home in Syosset, a hamlet in New York’s Nassau County seven years ago has been found dead in Philadelphia.

The body of Pulkit Singh, 20, a student at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, was discovered last week in his off-campus room, Newsday reported citing The Daily Pennsylvanian, a college newspaper.

The cause of death is being investigated by the Philadelphia health department and campus police, it said.

Indian jailed for molesting maid in Dubai

A 26-year-old Indian been jailed for three months for molesting a maid in the lift of an apartment building here.

The Dubai Criminal Court was told that the juice bar worker, identified by his initials, MR, followed the maid into the lift and molested her while on his way to make a delivery at the apartment building, The National reported Monday.

The maid said the defendant grabbed her from behind and tried to kiss her on the lips when she was returning after buying groceries.

“No one heard but as the lift opened in the second floor I ran out,” the maid was quoted as saying.

Obama’s Indian American ex-aide joins think tank

Anish Goel, a former key Indian-American aide of President Barack Obama, has joined Washington think tank New America’s National Security Programme as a Senior South Asia Fellow.

As a Senior Fellow for South Asia, Goel will write on US foreign policy in South Asia, regional dynamics, and their implications for US national security, the think tank announced.

“Anish is a respected expert on South Asia and has made important contributions to scholarship on the region,” said Peter Bergen, Director of New America’s National Security Programme. “We are delighted to have him with us.”

Indian-origin mum held by UK cops in connection with death of young son

Indian woman Rosdeep Kular has been detained in connection with the death of a young boy, alleged to be her three-year-old son Mikaeel Kular.

Police said that they have discovered the body of a young boy in the Fife area, 30 miles from Edinburgh, where Mikaeel went missing, Mirror.co.uk reports.

According to the report, Mikaeel”s family members have been informed of the recovery, while the body has been taken for examination.

The 33-0year-old mother of five had last seen Mikaeel on Wednesday when she put him to bed at their flat in Edinburgh.

Missing Indian-origin boy’s body found, one arrested

The body of a three-year-old Indian-origin boy, who went missing mysteriously from his home in Edinburgh in Scotland Jan 15, was found 30 miles away from his home.

Malcolm Graham, assistant chief constable of Police Scotland, said that Mikaeel Kular’s body was found in the Fife area in Scotland just before Friday midnight and a person was detained in connection with the investigation, the Mirror reported Saturday.

Police are yet to confirm who the arrested person is but the report citing a source said that it is the boy’s mother Rosdeep Kular who works as a beauty therapist.

New Indian consul general in Dubai Anurag Bhushan has said that community welfare will be his top priority .

Bhushan pledged that he will do all that he can to bolster Indian expatriates living in Dubai at a meeting organised by the Indian Business Professional Council (IBPC), the Gulf News reports.

The IBPC is the only recognised representative organisation of Indian Business and Professionals in Dubai, the report added.

Indian charged with murdering wife in Malaysia

An Indian man in Malaysia has been charged in a court in the southeast Asian nation with murdering his wife. Shashi Kumar, 27, was charged in a magistrate’s court with murdering between Dec 30 and Jan 3 Jolly Tewari, 28, who was a boutique worker at a bridal centre in Malyasia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, the Malysian Star reported Thursday.

If convicted, Shashi will face the death sentence under Section 302 of Malaysia’s penal code.

The charge against Shashi was read in English before magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin Thursday.
