Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to field first in their Indian Premier League clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here Monday.

Dhoni fined for slow over rate

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined $20,000 for his team’s slow over rate in their 14-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in a Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter here Sunday.

At the end of the match, Chennai Super Kings were assessed to be two overs behind the required rate after allowances were taken into consideration.

Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Dhoni was fined $20,000.

Hussey’s knock counts as Chennai win despite Bisla’s heroics

Gibbs latest foreign player to join Caribbean Premier League

Johannesburg, Apr 28 (ANI): South African top-order batting star Herschelle Gibbs has become the latest international player to sign up for this year”s Caribbean Premier league (CPL). Gibbs was the first cricketer in history to hit six sixes in a single over in international cricket in the West Indies during the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, Sport24 reports. The report further said that Gibbs would bring considerable experience and talent to the CPL table, having represented teams all over the world, including being part of the Deccan Chargers squad that won the Indian Premier League in 2009.

Livid Kohli criticises Wankhede crowd for jeering him

Furious after being booed by the crowd here, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli said IPL fans tend to forget that he competes for India as well and their jeering can end up creating “hatred among the players”.

Kohli was booed by fans at the Wankhede Stadium after a controversial runout incident during RCB’s match against the Mumbai Indians here last night.

Kohli was jeered several times after he appealed for a runout involving Mumbai Indians batsman Ambati Rayudu, who was dismissed in a bizarre manner.

Crowd forgot that I play for India also: Kohli

Booed by a section of a crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday retorted by saying the fans “forgot” that he represents the Indian cricket team also.

Mumbai Indians beat leaders Royal Challengers by 58 runs

An all-round effort helped Mumbai Indians pull off a great 58-run win against table toppers Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Saturday.

Opting to bat first Mumbai Indians put up a mammoth 194 for seven in 20 overs after Dwayne Smith struck 50 and Dinesh Karthik 43.

Their bowlers put on a great show, especially local boy and medium pacer Dhawal Kulkarni (3/19), to restrict Royal Challengers to 136 for seven in 20 overs. Dwayne Smith and Harbhajan Singh also picked up two wickets each.

PCB considering including Younis Khan among Champions Trophy probables

Lahore, Apr 27 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly been considering a proposal to include veteran middle-order batsman Younis Khan in the list of 30 probables for the ICC Champions Trophy, from which a 15-member Pakistan squad will be announced by the end of this month. According to sources, Khan, who has a considerable experience of 253 ODIs in which he has scored 7,014 runs at 31.88 average, may be considered in place of injured paceman Umar Gul, for the eight-nation tournament to be held in England from June 6, The Dawn reports.

Darren Sammy today refused suggestions that Surisers Hyderabad were outplayed by Rajasthan Royals but admitted that they had no answer to the onslaught by Shane Watson, who blasted a 53-ball 98 in his side’s win.

“I think we did a good job by reaching 144 and had chances but Shane Watson batted beautifully and his 98 run unbeaten weighed on us. He is a class player in any form of cricket. Rajasthan Royals romped to an eight wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their Indian Premier League match here Saturday.

Chasing 145, Shane Watson (98 not out) got the team home in 17.5 overs.

Tendulkar hit on right hand while batting at the nets

Senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar today was hit on the right hand while batting at the nets during Mumbai Indians training session ahead of their IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Tendulkar tried to cut a delivery from Jacob Oram, when the extra bounce caught him unawares hitting him on the right hand.

“I should be fine for tomorrow,” the veteran said. His teammate Dwayne Smith also said the 40 year old should be fit to play in tomorrow’s match.

Verdict on Kaneria appeal expected tomorrow

The independent panel holding the hearing of Pakistani Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria’s appeal against the life ban imposed on him by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is expected to give its verdict on the case tomorrow in London.

Sources aware of the case said the four-day proceedings of the hearing had nearly been completed with Kaneria also
having recorded his statement after his former Essex teammate, Mervyn Westfield gave his statement to the panel on the spot-fixing case.

Bangalore, April 25 (IANS) Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting qualified for the next edition of the I-League (2013-14) after a goalless draw Thursday against Bhawanipore FC in their penultimate league match of the final phase of the 2nd Division League being held here.

After playing nine matches and bagging 18 points, Mohammedan Sporting, who sit pretty at the top of the table, are back in the top tier after a gap of four years. The centenary club last played in India’s premier club competition in the 2008/09 season.
