KCR meet Governor over Telangana issue

Hyderabad, August 13: The row kicked up by the ministers of Andhra and Rayala Seema region, who called agitators demanding a separate Telangana state ‘anti-national and seditious’, intensified on Thursday with pro-Telangana leaders urging the state governor to dismiss these ministers from the cabinet.

A delegation of Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Telangana Joint Action Committee, headed by K Chandrasekhara Rao and Professor Kodanda Ram, met Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum demanding the sacking of the 16 ministers.

By-Election victory is not strength: TDP

Hyderabad, August 13: TDP leader Mr. Revanth Reddy told the TRS that it should not consider the recent victory in the by elections as its real strength.

MLA Gurunatha Reddy resents Jc’s remarks against YSR

Anantapur, August 13: Congress MLA Mr. Gurunatha Reddy has lamented that former ministers Mr. J. C. Diwakara Reddy and Mr. D L Ravindra Reddy had passed unsavory remarks against the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Talking to the media here on Thursday, he has alleged that the two were making such remarks against the departed leader only because they were not accommodated in the cabinet.

Mr. Reddy said the late Chief Minister had only implemented the recommendations of the Rosaiah Committee with regard to the MR Properties deal.

Ministers should apologize: KCR

Hyderabad, August 13: Talking to newsmen later, Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao has demanded an apology from the Seemandhra ministers. He said they had hurt the sentiments of the people of Telangana.

He has warned that they would not be allowed to move about in Telangana if they did not apologize.

They would also loose their right to continue as the ministers of the entire state. He said they told the governor that if the ministers did not make amends, they should be dismissed from the cabinet.

JAC wants governor to take action on Seemaandhra ministers

Hyderabad, August 13: Telangana JAC Chairman Prof Kodandaram has said that he was hoping that the governor Mr. Narasimhan would take action against the Seemandhra Ministers for saying that asking for a separate state was treason.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said the JAC would think of what action should be taken, if the governor failed to take action against the ministers.

Osama cook sent to 14 years in prison

Washington, August 13: A Sudanese man accused of being Osama bin Laden’s cook and driver and helping the Al Qaeda mastermind avoid capture has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Ibrahim Ahmed Mahmoud al Qosi, 50, pleaded guilty in July to two charges for his support to the Al Qaeda and for conspiring to plan terror acts from August 1996 till his capture in December 2001, Xinhua reported.

A military commission at the US Naval station in Guantanamo Bay gave the sentence, according to which Qosi agreed to a prison term that would be kept secret till the Pentagon reviews it.

Hindi may soon become UN official language

New Delhi, August 13: Hindi may soon become one of the official languages of the United Nations. India is making efforts to push the case of the national language at the appropriate level, external affairs minister SM Krishna told Parliament on Thursday.

Krishna denied that financial constraints were a hindrance in pushing for the issue. India is consistently lobbying with other countries to seek their support for Hindi, he said. He also sought support of the NRI community in pressing the cause.

Harikrishna lacks moral right to question KCR: Harish Rao

Hyderabad, August 13: Telangana Rashtra Samiti senior leader T Harish Rao on Thursday stated that Telugu Desam Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna, who betrayed his own father for the sake of power, has no moral right to question TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Mr Harish Rao was speaking at a meeting in Osmania University where he said wondered asked how a person who had betrayed his own father can write a letter to KCR.

Raju bail petition hearing postponed

Hyderabad, August 13: The Special Court hearing the multi-crore accounting fraud in Satyam Computers on Thursday postponed hearing on the bail petition of the firm’s founder and former chairman B Ramalinga Raju to August 16.

Ramalinga Raju, who is undergoing treatment for Hepatitis C at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, had applied for bail after the Court had ordered the release of five accused in the case, including his brother Rama Raju, former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas, G Ramakrishna, Venkatapati Raju and Ch Srisailam on July 20 this year.

HMWSSB, Aghapura residents standoff over low pressure, bills

Hyderabad, August 13: Residents living in the surround areas of Nampally Market and Aghapura are involved in a tussle with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

The residents refused to pay bills sent by the HMWSSB saying that they have to trudge a long way to bring water since the Board is not supplying them with adequate of the precious liquid.

The residents complain that officials at the Hindinagar division of the HMWSSB, which is responsible for the area, simply are not bothered to address the issue.

Tamluk, August 13: A court on Thursday remanded the driver of the truck, which had hit a car of the convoy of railway ministerMamata Banerjee on Monday night, to 12 day’s judicial custody.

The Tamluk sub-divisional judicial magistrate sent the driver, Gujjar Singh, to jail custody on the charge of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.

Singh’s truck had hit a car of Banerjee’s convoy near Kolaghat bridge when she was on her way back to Kolkata after addressing a rally at Lalgarh.

Gujarat HC transfers Ishrat case to SC-appointed SIT

Ahmedabad, August 12: Rejecting the demand for a CBI inquiry, the Gujarat High Court today transferred the Ishrat Jahan encounter case to the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT headed by former CBI director R K Raghvan will now further investigate the encounter case of 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan and three others.

IPS officer wants FIR against him quashed, moves Guj HC

Ahmedabad, August 12: Senior IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma, facing murder charges in a 26-year-old encounter in Kutch district, today approached the Gujarat High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed against him by the state CID.

Sharma, in his petition, contented that all charges against him were false.

He said the alleged incident had taken place in 1984, following which an FIR was registered then, in which he was not included as an accused.
