Islamabad, October 04: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that he would not hesitate to take “difficult decisions” in the country’s interest.

At a meeting with a group of journalists at his home here Sunday, Gilani said: “Let me make it clear that the judiciary wants democracy in the country and its top priority is to strengthen it. We will strengthen all institutions and continue with the politics of reconciliation.”

Ayodhya’s saints plan to honour judge Sharma

New Delhi, October 04: Ayodhya’s Hindu religious leaders would felicitate Justice Dharam Veer Sharma, who was one of the judges who pronounced the judgement in the Ayodhya title suit case, a member of the Sri Ram Janambhoomi Trust said on Monday.

“The sadhus and saints of Ayodhya will honour Justice Sharma for delivering the historic verdict in favour of the Ram temple”, Ram Vilas Vedanti told reporters in Ayodhya.

He said the dates of the felicitation ceremony would be decided after talking to Sharma, who would be apprised of the sentiments of the sadhus.

Ahmadinejad: Washington losing nerve

Mumbai, October 04: Calling him a patriot, the Shiv Sena Monday heaped praises on Justice S.U. Khan of the Allahabad High Court, which last week ruled that the Babri Mosque was built at the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

In an editorial, the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamna sympathised with Justice Khan’s predicament while penning the judgment, and said he must have been ‘under tremendous mental stress and agony which is unimaginable’.

121 deaths due to road accidents during rains

Hyderabad, October 03 (Siasat News): A startling rise in deaths due to road accidents has been observed during the current rainy season in the twin cities.

An average of 40 deaths occurred each month resulting in a total of 121 in three months, which are far higher than the deaths occurred in any other season.

Eye on Telangana, Gaddar to launch new party

Hyderabad, October 04: In what could change the political landscape of Telangana, currently dominated by TRS, balladeer and folk artist Gummadi Vithal Rao, better known as Gaddar, on Sunday announced a new party, Telangana Praja Front. It will be formally launched on October 9 in Hyderabad.

The Front, which is expected to try to wrest control of the Telangana movement from the TRS, is not just a political party, Gaddar said.

La Martiniere School Principal, 3 Teachers Arrested

Kolkata, October 04: Seven months after 13-year-old student Rouvanjit Rawla ended his life, the principal and three teachers of the La Martiniere School were arrested here on Monday on charges of abetment to suicide.

Principal Sunirmal Chakravarti and three teachers, Garnian, Partho Dutta and David Raun, were arrested this morning, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Damayanti Sen said. The Class VIII student had killed himself on February 12, allegedly after being caned by the principal.

NYC mosque’s imam getting death threats: Wife

New York, October 04: The wife of an imam planning an Islamic community center and mosque near ground zero says she and her husband have received death threats.

Daisy Khan said Sunday the lives of her and Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf are “under threat.”

Police can’t confirm the threats.

Khan was part of a discussion of Islam on ABC television’s “This Week” news program.

She says moderate Muslims like her must lead the fight against extremists. She says if moderates are branded extremists they’ll be thrown into the arms of Al Qaida.

30-day test run for Makkah metro

Jeddah, October 04: The newly established Mashair Railway, which links the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa with Makkah, will have a 30-day test run before opening to transport domestic and GCC pilgrims during the upcoming Haj season.

Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb will inspect the railway (also known as the Makkah Metro) on Tuesday to make sure the facility is ready to transport the guests of God. The railway will bring about a dramatic change in pilgrim transportation between the holy sites.

Crackers godown catches fire

Hyderabad, October 04 (Siasat News): A crackers godown caught fire at the first floor of Bhawani fire works late night resulting massive smoke pluming across the area.

The incident took place in shop no 17 of Sri Krupa market situated at Mahboob Ganj, Malakpet. Police while making arrangements for putting down the fire stopped traffic too at National highway from Chaderghat to Nalgonda X road. The traffic jammed as the buses, Lorries and other vehicles stuck to the place.

Law upheld faith, says Advani

New Delhi, october 04: Arguing that “law” had upheld “faith”, L K Advani architect of the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation said that the Allahabad High Court judgment had opened the doors for an amicable negotiated settlement to the 60-year-old dispute.

Advani said he was “extremely happy” to note that after the judgment, the nation had “arrived at a fortuitous point” where “judicial verdict” and “amicable solution” could be blended well.

Islam now part of Germany: President Wulff

Bremen, October 04: Germany’s President called on his countrymen to work to integrate the country’s four million Muslims, acknowledging that Islam is “now part of Germany”.

Speaking from the northern city of Bremen on the 20th anniversary of reunification and in his first major set-piece speech, Christian Wulff focussed on the challenges ahead of modern, reunited Germany.

Pak weightlifters threaten to quit CWG

Islamabad, October 04: Pakistan’s weightlifting team has threatened to pull out of the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games after a verbal spat with their contingent leader over carrying their national flag at the grand opening ceremony in New Delhi.

Direct flight from Hyderabad to Chicago via Dubai to be launched

Hyderabad, October 03 (Siasat News): Air India will launch its flight from Hyderabad to Chicago via Dubai by this month end. Airlines sources said that flight service will be launched from October 31, connecting Hyderabad with New Delhi.

Apart from that possibilities are also studied to launch direct service to San Francisco. The airline would be deploying a Boeing 777-300 Extended Range aircraft to operate the flight direct from Delhi.

Rahman brings CWG ceremony to electrifying climax

New Delhi, October 04: India’s music sensation A.R. Rahman belted out “Jiyo Utho Badho Jeeto” to bring the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony Sunday to an electrifying climax, as the crowds echoed him in equal measure.

Rahman, clad in a white bandhgala jacket, black pants and white shoes, performed the Commonwealth Games 2010 anthem with hundreds of dancers dressed in traditional Indian costumes.

As the spectators joined him, much of the flak the Oscar winning composer has faced for the Rs.500 million Commonwealth Games 2010 anthem seemed to have been washed away.

Emergency landing by Russian plane after bomb threat

Moscow, October 04: A Yak-42 plane with 73 passengers on board flying from Moscow to Chechen capital Grozny was forced to make an emergency landing after a bomb threat, an official said Sunday.

“The plane left Moscow for Grozny at 16.14 p.m. local time. Several minutes later it received an anonymous call threatening that the plane can be exploded,” a spokesman for the Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency said.

“The plane’s crew took a decision to make emergency landing in the city of Volgograd,” he said.

Militants burn 20 NATO oil tankers in Pak

Islamabad, October 04: Around 20 NATO oil tankers were destroyed by suspected militants near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Monday, officials said.

According to preliminary information, militants set on fire the tankers parked on a roadside near Rawalpindi. At least two people were killed during the attack.

On Friday, around 30 NATO oil tankers were destroyed by suspected militants in southern Pakistan. The tankers were on their way to Quetta from Karachi when a group of militants set the tankers on fire at a filling station.

Statue of Tutankhamun’s grandfather found

Cairo, October 04: Egyptian archaeologists have found a 3,000-year-old statue of Amenhotep III, believed to be the grandfather of famous boy pharaoh Tutankhamun.

“The find is fantastic… because of the details of the facial features,” Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary General Zahi Hawass said.

Scientists had been excavating Amenhotep III funerary temple at Kom al-Hitan when they unearthed the upper half of the red-granite statue of the famous pharaoh’s grandfather.

The statue depicts Amenhotep III sitting down on a throne, accompanied by god Amun.

Blast in Turkey leather factory

Ankara, October 04: At least three people died and five were injured in a blast at a leather factory in Turkey Sunday, a media report said.

Two workers were killed when the blast occurred in the boiler room of the workshop in Guzelburc town in Hatay province, the Anatolia news agency reported, adding that a truck in front of the building caught fire, killing the driver inside.

The fire has been put under control, Xinhua reported.

There was no statement from officials on the cause of the explosion.
