Election staff waiting for TA and DA in Kadapa district

All employees deployed for election duties in Kadapa district are awaiting their share of travelling allowance (TA) and daily allowance (DA) since a month, sources said here today.

As many as 470 personnel were deployed to election duties in the district. Many of them were deputed from other constituencies and doing duties in their allocated segments.

So far, the district election cell has not paid their travel allowances and daily allowances since 12 March, though the election cell has withdrawn amount from the allotted fund for election expenditure.

Giriraj Singh banned by EC from campaigning in Bihar, Jharkhand

The Election Commission on Tuesday, banned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Giriraj Singh from campaigning in Bihar and Jharkhand for his highly inflammatory speeches.

In its directive to the Chief Secretaries of both the states, the commission asked them not to allow him to hold rallies, public meetings, road shows and take all preventive measures to restrain him.

Relatives of flight MH370 passengers have denounced the Malaysian government’s suggestion that it would soon look into issuing death certificates for those on board despite no proof yet of what happened to the plane.

EC issues notice to Giriraj Singh

CBI to question ex-coal secretary Parakh this week

The Central Bureau of Investigation issued a summon to former coal secretary P.C. Parakh Tuesday and is likely to question him this week in the coal block allocation scam, said informed sources.

The sources said that the agency asked Parakh to appear at its Delhi office this week probably on April 25 (Friday).

It is alleged that Parakh misused his official position in granting a coal block in Odisha to Hindalco, a company of Aditya Birla Group.

Nepal offers relief to kin of Sherpa guides killed in avalanche

Four days after a deadly avalanche on the slopes of Mt Everest claimed 13 lives, the Nepalese government Tuesday announced relief packages for the families of those Sherpa guides killed in the mishap.

The families of the victims will be provided with a sum of $15,789 as insurance, Nepal’s tourism ministry said.

The government had previously set the amount at $1,052 per person, but the issue was raised at a meeting of stakeholders hosted by the tourism ministry Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

Kejriwal to file nomination in Varanasi Wednesday

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will file his nomination for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat Wednesday, party leader Manish Sisodia said.

Kejriwal’s nomination will come a day before BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi – who the former Delhi chief minister has challenged in the Hindu holy city – files his papers.
