Qaeda chief urges kidnappings of Americans: SITE

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has called in an interview for militants to kidnap Westerners, especially Americans, to exchange them for jihadist captives.

In the second part of an interview with Al-Qaeda media arm As-Sahab, which the US-based SITE monitoring service said a jihadist posted on Twitter, Zawahiri was asked what Muslims should do to free militant prisoners.

“I advise them to capture Westerners and especially the Americans as much as they can, to exchange them for their captives,” he replied.

Dozens killed in clashes between Nigerian troops

More than 40 insurgents and four soldiers died in clashes between Nigerian troops and Islamists near the scene where scores of abducted girls are believed to be held in the north of the country, the military has said.

“The capture of a number of terrorists believed to be the ringleaders of those operating around Alagarmo sparked off a major fight on the outskirts of Bulanbuli, Borno State last night,” defence spokesman Major General Chris Olukolade said in a statement.

The book “Asrarul Wujud” released

Maulana Syed Qubul Pasha Shuttari released the book “Asrarul Wujud” written by Hazrath Khwaja Fareeduddin, Ganjeshakar (RA), the famous saint of Chishtia Sufi order. The function was held yesterday at Dargah Hazrath Shah Khamoosh, Nampally under the patronage of Maulana Akbar Nizamuddin Saberi. Cyberabad police seized Rs. 8.5 crore

Mr. CV Anand, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad told that on a tip received that in the buss bearing number KA-01-AB-2732 is carrying a huge amount, police checked it and seized Rs. 8.5 crore from the two passenger namely Prasanth Jetender (32) and Darshan (32). They were carrying the bundles of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 currency notes. They also informed that in their apartment in Kachiguda another sum of Rs. 14.5 lakh cash is available. Police seized this amount also from the flat.

Mayawati tells dalits to vote for her unitedly

Cautioning Dalit voters against getting carried away by “hype” created by BJP around Narendra Modi, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today asked them to vote for her party unitedly and make her the Prime Minister.

Not yet clear who is leading Congress: Sitaraman

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitarman today attacked Priyanka Gandhi saying that even after six rounds of polling for the Lok Sabha polls, the nation is yet to know who is leading the Congress party.

“The Congress party has serious leadership issues. Now that six rounds of polling are over, Congress is still unclear about who is leading the party…is it Sonia, Rahul or Priyanka?” Sitaraman told reporters here.

Ghaziabad public schools restrained from hiking fees

The district administration today restrained public schools here from hiking fees and ordered them to continue with the 2011 fee structure as per which tuition fee cannot be revised more than 10 per cent at a time.

On recommendations of a committee constituted by him, district magistrate S V S Ranga Rao ordered school authorities to refund those who have paid increased fee with the same within a week or adjust it later along with interest.

Criticizing public schools for not helping the committee in its probe related to fee hike, Ranga Rao said the schools hiked fee indiscriminately.

Eggs thrown at Chiranjeevi after his comments on Modi

Some BJP supporters allegedly hurled eggs at Union Minister and AP Congress election campaign committee chief K Chiranjeevi during a public meeting here Friday after his remarks against Narendra Modi calling him a “Hitler” and “tyrant”, police said.

Chiranjeevi, who was addressing a rally at Koneru Centre here, stopped his speech for some time after the incident. However, police managed to bring the situation under control and the minister continued his speech.

Police later said they nabbed two suspects in this connection.

Hamas committed to achieving reconciliation: Ismail Haneya

The prime minister of the Hamas authorities in Gaza Strip told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Friday that his movement is committed to achieving the internal Palestinian reconciliation, the media reported.

Ismail Haneya, also deputy chief of Hamas, told Abbas on the phone that his movement wants to implement the reconciliation agreements “in accordance to the agreed upon timetables,” Xinhua reported citing Hamas official news agency al-Rai.

Three dead in 653 pre-poll incidents in Bengal

Three people were killed in 653 incidents of pre-poll violence in West Bengal since the March 5 announcement of Lok Sabha elections, an official said Friday.

“As many as 576 were injured during this phase,” Amit Roy Chaudhury, officer on special duty in the chief electoral officer’s office, told reporters here.

Damage to property amounted to Rs.2.69 lakh.

He also confirmed the death of a micro observer in Murshidabad district’s Domkal Wednesday, a day before the second phase of polls in the state. According to initial reports, the official suffered a stroke.

40 insurgents killed in Nigeria military raid

At least 40 insurgents were killed in an overnight raid in Nigeria’s northeast region, military authorities said Friday.

Four soldiers also lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries in gunfights between the rebels and troops, following a raid near Bulanbali, located on the outskirts of northern Borno state, Xinhua quoted Chris Olukolade, spokesperson of the Nigerian military, as saying in a statement.

Tear gas used to disperse protesters in Helsinki

Police used tear gas to calm down hundreds of demonstrators who were against the government’s budget cuts in downtown Helsinki Friday evening, Finnish media said.

The protest, which attracted nearly 1,000 people, was launched by several non-governmental groups, Xinhua reported citing Finnish national broadcaster YLE.

It was initiated on social media under the slogan “That’s Enough Now!” to oppose the “endless” budget slashes that are “undermining the welfare state,” it said.

UN rights chief sent to South Sudan to end violence

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has asked UN high commissioner for human rights Navi Pillay and his special adviser on the prevention of genocide, Adama Dieng, to travel to South Sudan this weekend in a bid to stop violence in the world’s youngest country.

Pillay and Dieng will visit South Sudan “to follow up on the recent brutal attacks against civilians in Bentiu, Unity States, and in Bor, Jonglei State, as well as to follow up on the use of radio to disseminate hate speech,” Xinhua quoted UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric as saying Friday.
