Congress practices divisive secularism: Naqvi

BJP senior leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday accused the Congress party of practising divisive secularism.

Addressing a press conference here, Naqvi said that the Congress party’s secularism was influenced with the ideologies of Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s Muslim League and Qasim Razvi’s MIM and it has been using Muslim community as its vote bank since over six decades. However, he claimed that the BJP believes in true secularism where no community is treated as vote bank. He said that the people would reject the Congress party’s fake secularism in the general elections.

Modi to campaign in Seemandhra from April 30

Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will participate in the election campaign in Seemandhra region from April 30.

Mumbai BJP President Raj Purohit told reporters here on Sunday that Modi would visit Tirupati on April 30 evening. After having darshan of Lord Venkateswara, he would visit Kalahasti the next day. He will address public meetings in Madanapalli, Nellore, Guntur, Bheemavaram and Visakhapatnam on May 1, he informed. (INN)

The verbal spat between the Congress and the BJP reached new heights Sunday, the BJP alleging “corruption under patronage” in land deals of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra and his wife Priyanka Gandhi hitting back at it for “representing destructive and negative” politics.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad launched one of his party’s fiercest attacks on the Gandhi family, accusing Vadra of making “unscrupulous” land deals and seeking answers from Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

US, Europe must impose sanctions on Russia: Obama

President Barack Obama said Sunday the US and European countries should act collectively to impose sanctions on Russia for its actions in Ukraine.

“We’re going to be in a stronger position to deter Putin when he sees that the world is unified, and the United States and Europe are unified, rather than this is just a US-Russian conflict,” Xinhua quoted Obama in a joint press conference after meeting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak here Sunday.

Obama said although an international agreement was signed to de-escalate the crisis, Russia did not lift a finger to help.

Chidambaram, Mamata united to save Saradha scamsters: Modi

Accusing Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of joining hands to help those behind the Saradha chit fund scam, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Sunday said “strong action” will be taken against all culprits if he wins power.

“Chidambaramji, you are the finance minister, who are you trying to save? Mamataji and Chidambaram have joined hands to help those responsible for the Saradha scam,” Modi said at an election rally here in Hooghly district.

Mamata to act if Trinamool members linked with chit funds

Facing opposition ire over the multi-crore Saradha scam, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said she would take action if any member of her Trinamool Congress party is found to have links with any chit fund.

“We don’t need money from chit funds to run our party. If someone from my party has links with chit funds, I will take action,” Banerjee said at a rally here.

DGP says red corner notice against KVP received

Director General of Police, Prasada Rao said here Sunday that they had received the red corner notice issued against Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP KVP Ramachandra Rao.
He said that they were holding discussions on the notice with CBI, the nodal agency for Interpol in India.
Replying to a question, he said that any special supervision was not needed on KVP as he is an MP.
It may be recalled that the Interpol had issued a red corner notice against Rao in the Titanium mining case. The officials in the CB CID received the notice on Friday.

Ind candidates commit suicide—Threatening calls alleged

An Independent candidate contesting the Tanuku Assembly constituency in West Godavari district, Seelam Satyanarayana (45), has committed suicide, according to information reaching the state headquarters.
Satyanarayana, hailing from pydimarru village, filed his nomination as an Independent and started canvassing. It is said that he telephoned his family members and friends on Saturday night and informed them he was committing suicide and that he was receiving threatening phone calls. His family members identified his body in the fields near Tadepalligudam.

24 killed in Syria blasts

At least 24 people were killed and many injured Sunday when rebels’ shelling targeted government-controlled districts in Syria.

At least 15 shells slammed into Bab al-Faraj, Baroun Street, following the rebels’ blast that ripped through the industrial chamber and the adjacent electricity station in Saba Bahrat area of Aleppo, xinhua reported.

Former MLA C Bapineedu passes away

Former MLA from Tanuku in West Godavari district, Chittori Bapineedu (78) breathed his last due to heart attack this morning. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2004 as a Congress candidate and worked for development of the constituency. His body was kept at his residence today to enable people to pay their last respects. His last rites would be performed on Monday, according to his family members.(NSS)

Jayalalithaa condoles Maj. Varadharajan’s death in Kashmir

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Sunday condoled the death of Maj. Mukund Varadharajan while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir April 25.

In a statement here, Jayalalithaa said she was grieved on hearing about Varadharajan’s death.

The 32-year-old Varadharajan of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles was killed along with a soldier in a gun battle with separatist guerrillas in Karewa Manloo village in Kashmir’s Shopian district. Three guerrillas were also killed.

The chief minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs.1 million to the army officer’s family.

Babu promises nine hrs power supply to farm sector

APCC secretary wants Sonia to expel KVP from party

APCC Secretary Raziuddin Ahmed has requested the Congress President Sonia Gandhi to expel Rajya Sabha member Dr KVP Ramachandra Rao from the primary membership of the Congress party and compel him to resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha as he stood out like a “rotten apple in the Congress party’s garden of Eden”.
