Teenaged South Korea-born New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko had reportedly broken down into tears after she won her first Ladies PGA title as a professional and will climb to No.2 in world rankings at the Swinging Skirts Classic in San Francisco.

Three days after her 17th birthday, Ko departed Lake Merced Golf Club with her biggest career payday of 315,000 dollars in her second victory as a professional, after pocketing 181,000 dollars in Taiwan in December.

On the last day of the Telangana campaign, YSR Congress Chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy took the city by storm by surprising the various minority-dominated areas with his Hindi speaking skills.

He makes a start of his speech in Khairatabad constituency in Telugu by thanking people for waiting for him in the scorching heat. On the suggestion of Khairatabad YSRC candidate Vijaya Reddy, he so therefore switched to Hindi.

MIM Chief sees ‘Hitler’ in Narendra Modi

On Monday, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen party President Asaduddin Owaisi appealed to the voters to keep Hyderabad “safe from the communal forces.”

He targeted BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting at the Khilwath Grounds in old city.

As said by Mr Owaisi that Modi was responsible for the genocide of Muslims and fake encounter killings in Gujarat. Modi’s defeat will at least act as a source of consolation to the victims’ families, he added.

Narendra Modi was trying to please the RSS by asking ‘Bangladeshi immigrants’ to be ready to leave India after May 16, at a rally in West Bengal’s Serampore on Sunday.

By doing so he not only polarising voters on religious lines but at the same time pleasing the RSS.
Modi, who has been shifting his tone and tenor to suit the political landscape, donned his Hindutva poster-boy avatar in West Bengal. He tore into Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, indicting her of vote bank politics and “rolling out the red carpet for the Bangladeshis.”

Sarees were distributed by BJP to woo voters: AAP

The AAP in a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Narendra Modi alleged for“bribing” voters.

AAP alleged in a press release, that sarees were distributed in Modi’s constituency Varanasi. Images of saree gift packs with ‘Shree Tortoise Sarees’ written on them, carrying Modi’s photo and address of the supplier in Surat is submitted to the EC, added the party.

The party demanded an FIR be registered against Modi for allegedly trying to bribe voters. The party said that it had attached all relevant documents, photos and videos along with its complaint.

‘Extreme wet, dry spells up drought, flood risks in India’

In an alarming research, a team of scientists at Stanford University have identified significant changes in the patterns of extreme wet and dry events that are increasing the risk of drought and flood in central India.

The team, which includes two Indian-origin researchers, reveal that the intensity of extremely wet spells and the number of extremely dry spells during the south Asian monsoon season have both been increasing in recent decades.

Giriraj Singh’s arrest put on hold till May 3

A Jharkhand court Tuesday suspended the order for the arrest of Bihar BJP leader Giriraj Singh till May 3 for his hate speech during campaigning.

A Deoghar district court issued the order after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader filed a petition for his anticipatory bail.

Two first information reports were lodged against Giriraj Singh – one in Bokaro district and the second in Deoghar district of the state – on the instructions of the Election Commission.

He is the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Nawada constituency in Bihar.

North Korea starts live-fire drill

North Korea set off its live-fire drill Tuesday near the disputed inter-Korean border islands, about a month after conducting the same drill.

Military officials said that Pyongyang started the pre-noticed live-fire drills around 2 p.m., Xinhua reported.

North Korea was known to have fired self-propelled artillery shells from coastal battery positions toward waters just north of the western inter-Koran sea border.

Telangana votes tomorrow to elect first government

April 30, 2014 will be a big day for 2.81 crore voters in Telangana as they exercise their franchise for electing the first government of the new state that will formally come into existence on June 2.

Sikh, Muslim group to file complaint against amusement parks

Sikh and Muslim rights group in California will file multiple complaints against an amusement parks chain that denied access to people from the two communities to certain rides, saying the religious head coverings worn by them posed safety hazards.

The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) and United Sikhs will announce the filing of multiple public accommodation complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) against Boomers amusement parks.

Amid tension over EC curbs, Punjab votes Wednesday

Over 1.95 crore voters in Punjab are eligible to cast ballot Wednesday for the 13 Lok Sabha seats amid political tension after the poll panel banned Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia from moving anywhere in Amritsar city other than his own polling station.

The Election Commission (EC) is expecting up to 80 percent voting Wednesday. Punjab recorded 70 percent polling in the 2009 general elections, said Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer V.K. Singh.

There are 253 candidates in the fray for all the 13 seats this time.

SC reserves order on spot-fixing probe panel

The Supreme Court Tuesday reserved its order on setting up a panel to probe allegation of spot-fixing and betting against some of the cricketers playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) and BCCI president N. Srinivasan.

The apex court bench headed by Justice A.K. Patnaik reserved the order after it was told here that Justice Mukul Mudgal has consented to head the panel to investigate the allegations against the cricketers and Srinivasan.

49 militants, 5 soldiers killed in eastern Afghanistan

At least 49 Taliban insurgents and five soldiers were killed following a massive attack by the militants in eastern Afghan province of Paktiya, a defence ministry official of the country said Tuesday.

“More than 500 insurgents attacked army after an operation was launched in Paktiya province. 49 militants and five soldiers have been killed,” Xinhua quoted Mohammad Zahir Azimi, a defense ministry spokesman, as saying in his twitter account.

One army soldier was held captive. Several foreign militants were also involved in the clash, he said.

New York pilot claims to have found online image of MH370 wreckage

A New York pilot reportedly claims that he has found an online image of the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Airline flight MH370 in an unbroken state.

According to News.com.au, Michael Hoebel, 60, said he had found an image of what appeared to be the plane in one piece in the Gulf of Thailand, the exact point where the plane made its last communication with air traffic control before vanishing off the radar on March 8.

Hoebel used the online satellite imagery website TomNod to find the jetliner and was taken aback after he discovered the plane in an unbroken state.

Aussie exploration firm claims it may have found MH370 debris

An Australia based marine exploration company has reportedly claimed that it may have located the debris of the missing Malaysia Airline MH370, some 3,000 miles away from the target area.

The Adelaide-based company GeoResonance has implied that the authorities could be looking for the wreckage of the plane in the wrong place.

The company says its own private research has identified elements on the ocean floor in the Bay of Bengal consistent with material from a plane, Mirror reports.

Rupee up 8 paise against dollar

The rupee recovered by 8 paise to 60.57 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on selling of dollars by exporters and banks.

A higher opening in the domestic equity market and a weak dollar against euro overseas also supported the gain in the rupee, forex dealers said.

The rupee had closed 5 paise lower at 60.65 against the dollar in yesterday’s trade on sudden demand for the US currency from importers, mainly oil refiners.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered by 45.03 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 22,676.64 in early trade today.PTI

President approves dissolution of Andhra Pradesh Assembly

President Pranab Mukherjee has given his approval for the dissolution of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and a fresh proclamation of central rule in the state.

The Union Cabinet on Friday recommended dissolution of Andhra Pradesh Assembly and extension of the President’s rule there beyond 30 April.

This decision was taken after a report was submitted by the Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan to the centre about the prevailing situation in the state.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Modi has no knowledge about Kashmir: Meem Afzal

Reacting to the spat between National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress leader Meem Afzal on Tuesday said that Modi had no knowledge about Kashmir and was bringing up its issues due to approaching elections in the state.

“Tomorrow, elections are going to be held in some parts of Kashmir and that is the reason why the BJP is saying all this and bringing up issues related to Kashmir. Otherwise everyone knows that the BJP has no say and no power in the state,” said Afzal.
