The day’s minimum temperature was 11 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average.

“The skies will remain clear throughout the day. Shallow fog was recorded early in the morning,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 22 degrees Celsius.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 85 percent.

Delhi LG meets Home Minister Shinde

Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung today met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and is understood to have discussed about the clashes between activists of Aam Aadmi Party and BJP here following brief detention of Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat.

Sources said Jung, who supervises Delhi Police, briefed about yesterday’s clashes that took place after AAP members staged a protest outside BJP headquarters.

“Though the meeting was not exclusively about yesterday’s incident outside the BJP HQs, the issue did figure in the discussion,” a source said.

Delhi HC orders fresh draw of lots in nursery admission

The Delhi High Court Thursday ordered a fresh draw of lots in the nursery admission process for all seats.

Justice Manmohan said all candidates having equal marks shall be considered equal by conducting a draw of lots.

The Delhi government Feb 27 issued a notification scrapping the inter-state transfer category under which it used to give five additional points to children whose parents were transferred to the national capital from another state.

Sensitise Delhi Police about NE people’s problems: HC

The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the city police to sensitise its 83,000 police personnel about the problems faced by people from the northeast.

“You (police) know what the people from northeast are referred here, or from the south for that matter? Forget about the people, you are not sensitised. Look at the manner they (north eastern people) are treated by the police itself,” said a division bench of Acting Chief Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul asking Delhi Police commissioner to direct all DCPs to sensitise police personnel.

Rain likely in capital

The national capital Wednesday is likely to receive rain in the afternoon, the India Meteorological Department said.

The minimum temperature Wednesday was a notch above average at 13.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature will hover around 25 degrees Celsius.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 80 percent.

Tuesday’s maximum temperature was 26.2 degrees Celsius, just below the season’s average, while the minimum was 12 degrees Celsius.

Capital gets new entertainment zone

A new entertainment hub-cum-tourist attraction in the capital’s Raja Garden area aims to develop underutilised land here with the backing of Delhi Tourism.

The West Delhi destination, an amalgamation of Indian art and culture clubbed with entertainment, is located under the Raja Garden flyover.

The idea by King’s Park Street is an initiative to utilise the urban waste land in the city to bring innovative entertainment products to people.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 87 percent.

Delhi officials told to gear up for LS polls

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev Monday asked government officials to be prepared to conduct the general elections which are expected to be announced anytime soon.

In a meeting with officials of the Delhi government and civic bodies, Dev asked them to check that political parties do not violate the model of conduct which will come into place right after the formal announcement of the national vote, an official said.

During the model code of conduct, no policy decision can be taken by the union government and states.

Close brothel, orders Delhi court

A special court here ordered shutting down of a brothel here and awarded one year jail term to a woman for pushing a girl into flesh trade.

Fast Track court presided by Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja sentenced one year rigorous imprisonment to a woman under various section of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.

The court in the past week ordered closure of the brothel on GB road, a redlight area.

It also slapped a fine of Rs.4,000 on the woman.

Snag hits Delhi Metro services

Thousands of commuters Friday reached their respective offices late following a technical snag in a Delhi Metro train that delayed services during the morning rush hour on the metro’s yellow line, officials said.

“A technical issue was detected in the automatic train protection system of one of the trains which caused a pile-up,” a metro official said.

A Delhi Metro statement said the Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line was affected for more than half an hour from 8.58 a.m. to 9.32 p.m.

Kirori Mal College building under Delhi HC scanner

The Delhi High Court Friday asked Kirori Mal College to apprise it on the condition of its building while hearing a plea filed by a student who fell from a hostel balcony.

Justice Sunil Gaur asked the college management to inform the court as to when the building was built, and its condition and maintenance.

A college student had filed a police complaint March 29, 2013, against the college after he fell from the balcony of a hostel building and was injured.

AAP questions health secretary’s transfer

The AAP Friday alleged that former health secretary Keshav Desiraju was transferred because he opposed the return of Ketan Desai into the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Desai, a former MCI chief, was arrested on charges of bribery in 2010.

Desiraju “was unfairly and arbitrarily transferred” by Health and Family Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as he (Desiraju) was against the return of Desai to the helm of the MCI, the AAP said in a statement.

54 new central schools to come up

As many as 54 new central schools would be opened across 17 states of the country.

The approval for opening of the new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) was given by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) at a meeting here Friday.

These 54 KVs would be located in 53 districts of the 17 states, an official release said here.

The total cost of opening of these new KVs is projected at Rs.9.2 billion. The non-recurring costs covering constructions cost, furniture and fixtures will be Rs.7.9 billion and recurring cost covering pay and allowance and other expenses will be Rs.1.3 billion.

Software engineer commits suicide in Delhi

A 26-year-old software engineer committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at his home here, police said.

Neeraj Kumar, who worked in a private company in Hyderabad, was found hanging from a ceiling fan by a family member at his house at Aman Vihar area in west Delhi Thursday afternoon.

Police said Kumar was to get married in March this year and did not leave behind any suicide note. The reason behind the extreme step was unclear.

Kumar came back home 20 days ago.

Delhi Police launch ‘lost report’ service

Delhi Police Thursday launched a mobile and web application service to report about the lost articles like mobile phones, passports and driving licenses without going to the police station.

The service, launched by union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, will help people to inform police about their lost articles and get the immediate feedback within a few minutes.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said it will be called “lost report” service.

One held with loaded pistol in Delhi Metro

A person was today apprehended from a Delhi Metro station here for allegedly carrying a loaded country-made pistol in his baggage.

The incident took place this afternoon at the Shahdra Metro station when a CISF jawan posted at the X-ray baggage scanner detected the pistol in one of the baggage.

A resident of Ghaziabad’s Loni named Arif (20) was carrying the bag and he was apprehended and handed over to local police, a senior Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer said.

Guns and explosives are banned from being taken inside the rapid rail transport system.

Rain likely in Delhi today

It was a pleasant Thursday morning in the national capital with the minimum temperature recorded a notch above season’s average at 13.0 degrees Celsius. The Met Office forecast rain in the afternoon.

“Partly cloudy sky with spells of rain in some parts of the city could be recorded,” an India Meteorological Department official said.

The city recorded 0.3mm of rainfall Wednesday.

The maximum temperature Thursday is likely to hover around 24 degrees Celsius.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 97 percent.

‘Designated pvt hospitals cannot deny free aid to refugees’

Refugees in India can avail of free treatment facilities at any of the 45 private hospitals in the national capital which have been identified by Delhi government to render such services, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has said.

Replying to a Delhi-based lawyers’ group which has alleged that a Myanmarese refugee was denied treatment by a south Delhi private hospital, DHS clarified that the designated private hospitals cannot deny free assistance to any refugee who came under the EWS category.

Delhi scraps transfer points in nursery admission

Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that the city government has decided to scrap the five additional points to be given to children of parents who come under the inter-state transfer category in nursery admissions.

Advocate Raju Ramachandran, appearing for Jung, informed Justice Manmohan that a survey was carried out in 58 leading private schools in the city that found massive misuse of the transfer points.

A notification in this regard will come Thursday, the advocate said.

HC allows AAP plea against Sheila Dikshit

The Delhi High Court Wednesday allowed a plea by the Aam Aadmi Party to withdraw a petition filed by the erstwhile Congress government against a trial court order for lodging a complaint against former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for allegedly misusing government funds.

Justice Sunil Gaur also allowed an application of the former chief minister seeking impleadment in the case.

The national capital will experience a warm, sunny Wednesday and the maximum temperature will hover around 25 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

“The sky will remain partly cloudy through the day and the afternoon will be warm and sunny,” an official of the India Meteorological Department said.

Wednesday’s minimum temperature settled a notch above the season’s average at 12.5 degrees Celsius.

Delhi HC asks Kejriwal, Bharti for response on poll expense

The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and former minister Somnath Bharti to respond within two weeks on a plea seeking cancellation of their election for exceeding the expenditure limit in assembly polls.

The court sought their response by April 17 on petitions by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Vijender Gupta and Arti Mehra alleging that Kejriwal and Bharti each spent beyond the statutory limit of Rs.14 lakh.

Cloudy Tuesday in Delhi

The national capital woke up to a pleasant Tuesday morning. The Met Office has forecast a cloudy day.

According to a Northern Railway official, 12 trains coming to Delhi were running late due to fog in and around the national capital.

“The day will be partly cloudy. Moderate fog was witnessed early morning,” said an India Meteorological Department official.

The visibility at 8.30 a.m. was 400 metres.

Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded two notches below average at 10.3 degrees Celsius.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 95 percent.
