While the maximum temperature was recorded two notches above average at 32.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum settled one notch below average at 14.5 degrees Celsius.

“The skies Saturday will turn cloudy noon onwards,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Saturday’s maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 33 and 16 degrees Celsius.

Cong will lose in all seven seats in Delhi: BJP

BJP today claimed that the Congress will repeat its assembly election failure in Delhi and will come “third” in all seven seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

“There is a massive support for the BJP and Narendra Modi in Delhi. We are sure that all seven BJP candidates will win by record margins,” Delhi BJP’s chairman of campaign committee Vijay Kumar Malhotra said.

He announced that BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will address a public rally in the national capital on March 26 to seek support of people for the Lok Sabha polls.

Warm, sunny Thursday in Delhi

It will be a warm, sunny Thursday here and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

“The sky will remain sunny through the day and the afternoon will be warm,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Thursday’s minimum temperature settled a notch below the season’s average at 15 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded one notch below average at 29.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum also settled one notch below average at 15.2 degrees Celsius.

A number of leaders of Delhi unit of Janta Dal (United) today joined BJP along with their supporters.

Congress likely to name Delhi candidates Tuesday

Congress is expected to announce its Lok Sabha candidates for Delhi Tuesday and could could replace “one or two” its sitting MPs on one or two seats, party sources said.

Delhi has seven Lok Sabha seats and all are held by the Congress at present.

“The party candidates are expected to be announced Tuesday. There may changes on one-two seats,” a senior party leader told IANS.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party have already declared their candidates for Delhi.

Polling in Delhi will take place April 14 and March 22 is the last day of filing nominations.

Warm Holi in Delhi

With colours all around, Delhi experienced a warm Holi Monday as the maximum temperature settled at 34.4 degree Celsius, five notches above the season’s average.

The skies remained clear. Monday’s minimum temperature was 16 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season.

The Met department has forecast light rain Tuesday and said that a thunderstorm is expected in the evening.

“The sky will remain partly cloudy. The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 31 and 17 degrees Celsius respectively,” said an India Meteorological Department official.

A clear sky and bright sun made a perfect start to Holi celebrations in Delhi Monday. The weather office forecast light rains in the evening.

“The sky will remain mainly clear but might turn cloudy from evening onwards. One or two spells of rains are expected in the evening,” said an India Meteorological Department official.

Delhi’s ragpickers make bio-degradable ‘pichkari’

A group of ragpickers in the national capital have made a bio-degradable “pichkari” or spray gun which is an ideal option for those who care for the environment.

The ragpickers at NGOs Chetna and Save the Children have come up with a dry “pichkari” made from used cardboard cartons instead of the usual plastic.

“All you have to do is place some ‘gulal’ inside the ‘pichkari’ and when the handle is pushed, a puff of coloured powder comes out,” explained 11-year-old Manisha, one of the ragpickers, who designed the spray gun.

Clear, sunny sky on Holi Monday

Delhi will experience a warm afternoon and sunny skies Monday – the perfect weather for Holi, the Met office said Sunday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Monday morning will be pleasant but the day would be warm and sunny with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius while the minimum would settle around 16 degrees.

The city experienced a warm Sunday as well, with the maximum temperature recorded two notches above the season’s average at 31.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum was a notch above the average at 15.5 degrees Celsius.

Delhi Police increase vigil to ensure safe Holi

Delhi Police have increased vigil on city roads on the occasion of Holi that falls March 17, police said Sunday.

Some 200 traffic police special checking teams along with patrol vans and police teams will be stationed on roads and at strategic locations besides intersections all over the city to check drunken driving and other traffic violations, said police.

“The special check points will be placed on roads from (Monday) morning in crowded areas to control motorists. The polices stations have been asked to ensure proper vigil on the day of celebration,” a police officer told IANS.

Saturday’s maximum temperature was 29.7 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average, while the minimum was 12.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasons’ average.

Holi fervour: ‘Bhang ke side effects’

Karan Jaiswal, 28, can’t forget his first escapade with ‘bhang’, a popular concoction made with the buds and leaves of the cannabis plant, during Holi. For almost six hours, he felt he was flying free in the air.

“I get nervous at the thought of it now,” Jaiswal, who was 23 back then, told IANS.

Pakoras, thandai, laddoos, kulfi and many more consumables laced with bhang are a hit during the festival of colours. Youngsters in urban cities lap them up at fancy parties, where music, alcohol, scrumptious food and dance dominate the festivity.

Street vendors thank Rahul for passage of bill

Street vendors from various areas of Delhi Saturday met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and thanked him for the passage of the street vendors bill in parliament, the party said.

According to a statement issued by Gandhi’s office, the street vendors expressed the hope that they will be free of the fear of losing their livelihood.

Gandhi told the vendors that the credit for passing the bill goes to party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He also assured the vendors that their rights will be protected through the bill.

Around 200 cops to check Delhi’s errant drivers on Holi

Around 200 personnel will be deputed at strategic locations around the city to keep a check on traffic violations on Holi, Delhi traffic police said Saturday.

“About 200 traffic police special checking teams along with police control room (PCR) vans will be stationed at strategic locations all over Delhi to check traffic violations on Holi,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla said in a statement.

“Special checking teams with alcometers and interceptors (for those flouting speed limits) will be deployed at major intersections,” he added.

Rani’s ‘Mardaani’ brings Delhi neighbourhood to standstill

A quiet, leafy South Delhi neighbourhood was abuzz Friday morning as news trickled into homes and busy markets that Bollywood star Rani Mukerji was shooting in one of the houses.

“Did you know that Rani is in Chittaranjan Park,” squealed Manushi, a 20-year-old househelp, as she excitedly passed on the news on the phone to her friends in the neighbourhood – and beyond.

Public outcry and quest for justice after the December 16 gangrape prompted investigators to use new tools of probe to nail the culprits, the Delhi High Court today said.

Ruling out the possibility of foisting the case against the accused, the high court noted that the rape of a 23- year-old girl, hardly out of her teens, would have gone unnoticed as scores of other violations of infants, girls and women.

Delhi HC cites ‘Life of Pi’ during gang rape verdict

The Delhi High Court Thursday said the movie “Life of Pi”, which the Dec 16 gang rape victim watched before the incident, where a tiger and a boy find comfort in each other, must have been etched in the victim’s mind.

Dismissing the appeals of the four convicts – Mukesh, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma – a division bench of Justice Reva Khetrapal and Justice Pratibha Rani observed that the victim was returning with her male companion after watching “Life of Pi”.

Delhi Police to file status report on crime mapping of Delhi

The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed police to provide a status report on “crime mapping” of the capital, especially on crimes against women.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul directed Delhi Police to submit the report in a sealed cover.

“Delhi Police to file status report on crime mapping of the capital particularly of crimes against women,” said the bench, posting the matter for April 16.

Earlier, the bench directed police to do “crime mapping” in the capital to know the reasons behind incidents of harassment to women.

Woman arrested with illicit liquor in West Delhi

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested with illicit liquor in Ranhola area of West Delhi, police said Wednesday.

The woman, resident of Vikas Nagar, was arrested yesterday with 98 quarters of illicit liquor, police said.

“There is no other criminal involvement of the woman. However, her husband was previously arrested in three cases under Excise Act,” police said.
