The reservation categories mentioned by students in their application forms for the Common Entrance Test (CET) will be considered final from this academic year onwards.

In an attempt to restrain misuse of reservation, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is acting in the uncompromising manner to make it compulsory for students to submit affidavits along with their application forms, as a proof to the reservation category claimed by them. It indicates, the students cannot later request for a correction or alteration or change in categories once the application process is complete.

On Tuesday, Minister of Health and Family Welfare U T Khader launched “Ayana,” a mobile mammography unit, set up by Narayana Health in the City.

Jason D’Souza, 28, a resident of Yelahanka New Town was arrested by RT Nagar police for cheating students by issuing them fake certificates. He was allegedly running a study centre against the law.

On Thursday night, three persons, including a two-year-old boy, were injured in a serial accident after an engineering student drove his car recklessly near Meenakshi Mall at Hulimavu

Two school buses, an autorickshaw and a car were also smashed up in the accident. The injured were rushed to a nearby private hospital and are said to be out of danger. Sachin was arrested on the charge of rash and negligent driving by the police.

City traffic police conducted a study which revealed that fatal road accidents involving teens are on the rise over the past two years.

The report that was released by the police on Friday states that most of the young victims are two-wheeler riders.The report is both a macro and micro-analysis of all road accidents reported from 2011 to 2013.

The highest number of people who are killed in road accidents are two-wheeler riders in the age group of 19 and 35. It is also noticed that the causalities reported in the age group of 1 to 12 are also on the rise from the past two years.

The bail application on medical grounds by Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case, was rejected by the Supreme Court. Students of Bearys Institution of Technology (BIT), Innoli protested against the mining activity going on in a quarry near the institution on January 28.

On Friday, a five-year-old boy in the City entered the Guinness Book of World Records by skating under 39 Toyota Qualis cars in 28 seconds.

Gagan S is a kindergarten student at Florence School in Basveshwaranagar, son of Satish, who was employed at a washing machine service centre.

“Gagan was always passionate about skating. He started attending skating classes just one-and-a half years ago. His dedication and commitment at such a young age motivated us and we wanted him to achieve something in skating,” said a proud Satish.

On early Thursday morning, a bike rider smash his vehicle into the parapet of Hebbal flyover and fell to his death 30 feet below. The victim was identified as Joseph Gerald, 23, died of head injuries at M S Ramaiah Hospital and his friend Sunil Subramanya, 24, who was riding pillion, suffered severe injuries.

Gerald was a resident of Chikkabanavara and Subramanya were working at a private company near Shanthinagar. Subramanya had joined the firm just four days ago. The duo were on their way to Mattikere to wish a friend on his birthday at midnight when the accident occurred.

A 27year-old man’s body was found hanging from a tree near Sanghi Temple in Hayathnagar area here on Wednesday evening.

The victim’s elder brother spotted the body and informed the police.

According to police officials,“The youth Kranti Kumar, a resident of Koheda village, went to work in a nearby ice cream factory on Wednesday and did not return. In the evening hours his body was found hanging from a tree near Sanghi Temple“.

On early Thursday morning, a goods auto driver was killed on KG Road after he lost control over the vehicle and came under it as it toppled.

Sudhakar, 24 years-old was on his way to a star hotel to collect garbage, along with his cleaner and helper Arun.

Arun narrated the matter to the police that the toolbox fell off the autorickshaw and Sudhakar, who tried to pick it up while driving, lost control of the vehicle which toppled. Although Sudhakar sustained a severe head injury, Arun escaped with bruises.

On Thursday, electronic goods, clothes, Domestic appliances and other products stored in a godown were destroyed in a fire mishap. The loss has been put at Rs 36 crore.The godown is located at Indlawadi in Anekal Taluk.

Twelve fire tenders took more than six hours to drench the blaze. There were no casualties. Police suspects that electrical short circuit might be the reason for the mishap. The accident occurred at Future Supply Chain’s godown owned by Big Bazar Group.

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, have been mowed down by a goods vehicle .

Lakshmikanth, a toddler was killed in front of his house at Kalkere on Thursday morning. His parents were natives of Andhra Pradesh, work as labourers at an under-construction building at Kalkere. The family lives in a makeshift shed on the construction site.

According to KR Puram, traffic police, t he boy was playing in front of the shed when the speeding goods vehicle ran him over, killing him on the spot. The driver dumped the vehicle and fled.

On Wednesday night, a class X student attempted suicide by consuming an overdose of medicine that his mother was prescribed for respiratory problem, at his house in Coffee Board Colony.

Zubaid Ahmed, 15, student of Citizen School on Tannery Road, was scolded by the school principal for using mobile phone inside school premises. An annoyed Zubaid consumed more than 10 tablets that his mother used to take for respiratory disorder.

Zubaid fell ill and wasimmediately shifted to a nearby private hospital, where he was treated at the ICU.
