UN rapporteur to visit Bangalore

Prof. Heiner Bielefeldt, UN Special rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and Belief will be visiting India soon from February 18 to 27.

He has been invited by Prof. Kamal Mitra Chenoy on behalf of the civil society organisations and Indian Social Institute, New Delhi.

Underprivileged student quota must be filled

A circular has been issued by the department of public instruction to all deputy directors of public instruction (DDPI) and block education officers (BEO) to fill the quota of seats (25%) reserved in unaided schools for underprivileged children under the Right to Education Act for the academic year 2014-15.

Budget funds for OBCs, minorities low, finds study

Allocation of funds for other backward classes (OBCs) and minorities is abysmally low and there are no guidelines for allocation to these groups, according to findings of a study by Centre for the Study of Social?Exclusion and Inclusive Policy of National?Law School of India University.

Allocation for minorities ranged between 0.07 per cent and 0.64 per cent of total expenditure in the last 10 years. Allocation for OBCs was little better between 0.53 per cent to 0.74 per cent during the same period.

Friend arrested for murder

Kumar, 45year-old was found stabbed to death at his house in Nanjamaba Agrahara.

According to police, Krishna, 34 year-old of Bangarpet had lent Kumar Rs 5,000 two years back. The duo had bear a grudge against each other as Kumar failed to repay.

Krishna allegedly barged into Kumar’s house on Monday and stabbed him in the abdomen and fled. Police arrested Krishna for murdering his friend, Kumar.

BBMP shut down Big Bazaar for putting food items with expiry dates on sale

On Monday Health officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) shut down a Big Bazaar outlet in Bhadrappa Layout, Outer Ring Road, North Bangalore, for putting seven types of food items on sale whose expiry dates had elapsed.

During an inspection BBMP health officers found expired food items like mixed nuts, cheese, banana chips and four other food products.

According to Vijay Kumar S Biradar, deputy health officer (Yelahanka zone) of BBMP, the expired food items have been seized and the supermarket shut down.

On Tuesday, KJP founder-president Padmanabha Prasanna Kumar shed light on by saying that his party hasn’t merged with BJP, as stated by former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

38 bonded labourers and six children rescued from brick kiln

38 bonded labourers hailing from Odisha, including six children, were rescued by the district administration from a brick kiln in the City on Tuesday.

Make arrangements for book festival at Palace Grounds: High Court

High Court on Monday directed the State government to make arrangements for the 11th edition of the Bangalore Book Festival which will be held from March 4 to 10 as the event to be held at Palace Grounds.

Justice A S Bopanna allowed a petition filed by the Bangalore Book Sellers and Publishers Association, directing the government to ensure that no other event or function go along with the book festival.

5 workers sustained injures when two groups is at each other’s throats

On Sunday, five workers sustained injuries when two groups of construction workers came to blows over a trivial issue in Yamalur in HAL police station limits.

Labourers hailing from different parts of north India were working at two construction sites adjoining each other and living in makeshift houses by the construction sites in Yamalur.

Two groups of workers, allegedly intoxicated, attacked each other with clubs and iron rods. A couple of them suffered head injuries, according to the police.

Charges of raping daughter filed against French official

A city court today framed charges against a French consular official for allegedly raping his three-and-a-half year old daughter.

Judge of the Special Court for child’s rights Shubha Goudar recorded the plea of Pascal Mazurier, Consular Attache to Consulate General of France, seeking discharge from the case and posted the matter to February 15 for fixing the date of trial.

The charge was framed under section 376 of IPC (punishment for rape).

The Court had on January 7 refused to discharge Pascal with the Judge ruling that there was sufficient evidence for him to face trial.

‘Bangalore one of the largest bioscience clusters’

The country’s technology hub, Bangalore, is today one of the largest bioscience clusters on the planet with about 10,000 bioscience researchers and professionals located here, a top Karnataka government official today said.

Karnataka government planned 8-lane Bangalore-Mysore highway

The Karnataka government is planning to make the Bangalore-Mysore road an eight-lane highway with flyovers to alleviate traffic congestion at key restricted access.

The traffic density, as per recent survey conducted by the public works department, has almost doubled in the past decade with the 130-km stretch recording 40,000 passenger car unit (PCU).

When the four-lane was built in 2004, vehicular traffic was 20,000 PCU. “Traffic volume apart, illegal speedbreakers add to the delay,” a senior PWD official told TOI.

Constable attacked by youths

On Saturday, a police constable on night patrol was beaten by a group of young men who were found busy in substance abuse at Padarayanapura in JJ Nagar police station limits.

Newborn baby girl abandoned

On Saturday night, a newborn baby girl was found abandoned on the premises ofMariyamma temple in Chellakere, Hennur police limits.

According to police, the baby was enveloped in white cloth and left on the temple premises. The neighbours become aware of the baby when they hear its cries. On information, the police shifted the infant to Dr Ambedkar Hospital.

Autorickshaw driver murdered

On Sunday, an autorickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend following a clash over money matters at Nanjamba Agrahara in Chamarajpet.

The victim was identified as Ramesh 45year-old, a resident of Nanjamba Agrahara.

According to police, Krishna, a construction contractor, picked a quarrel with Ramesh over a financial issue.An inebriated Krishna after that stabbed Ramesh.

Twelve-year-old boy raped a three-year-old girl

A three year old girl was allegedy raped by a 6th standard boy in Soladevanahalli on Saturday.

The boy took the girl, who was his neighbour, with him, on the pretext of teaching her the alphabet, at around 5 pm to his house and allegedly raped her.

After reaching home, the girl was tired and remained silent. The mother be suspicious of something and found some rashes on her. The mother rushed to the police and filed a complaint, on confirming sexual assault. The boy has been taken into custody and sent to a juvenile home. Both the boy and the girl have been subjected to medical tests.

Girl staying in PG accommodation goes missing

Shaikh Jabeena, 16-year-old was missing from her paying guest (PG) accommodation in Ejipura on Friday.According to Koramangala police, the victim is a student of Jyoti Nivas College, attended classes and went back to her PG in the evening.

Jabeena used to call her parents every night and on Friday night she called her father and told him that she was in Mumbai and would return as soon as possible. Since then her phone has been switched off. Jabeena neither enlightened the matter to her parents why she was going to Mumbai nor did her parents know who accompanied her.
