Man attempt to rape an 11year-old girl

On Saturday, a man allegedly attempted to sexually assault an 11-year-old girl on the premises of the government school at Kasavanahalli in HSR Layout police limits.

The victim, a class three student was standing inside the school compound, when the suspect dragged her by her hand and tried to sexually assault her.

When the headmistress raised alarm, the wrongdoer fled the spot. The headmistress enlightened the police that she had not seen the person earlier near the school.

An attempt-to-rape case has been booked and search is on for the miscreant, said the police

Ambareesh’s condition stable: Siddaramaiah

The condition of actor-turned- politician and Karnataka Housing Minister Ambareesh is now stable following his hospitalisation after he complained of breathlessness, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here today.

“There is no need for Ambareesh fans to worry. His condition is stable and (doctors told me) he will be all right in the next two days,” Siddaramaiah said after a visit to a private hospital here where the housing minister is admitted.

The 61-year-old Ambareesh was admitted to the hospital last night after he complained of breathlessness.

Daughter kills mother with lover’s help

A 23-year-old divorcee and her lover allegedly strangled her mother to death at Byadarahalli, near Tavarekere, off Magadi Road. Even if the woman’s screechs drew neighbours’ attention, they could do little to save her as the house was locked from inside.

The incident occurred around 11am on Friday in the west Bangalore locality. The neighbours who were in need of help witnessed the horror through the window as Chaitra and Sridhar strangled Gangambike, 45.

Florist’s son tops Karnataka PG medical entrance

A teenage girl raped by friend

A teenage girl has alleged she was raped by a man in a house in Ranganatha Colony, in Jagjeevan Ram Nagar police limits.

The girl and boy were both residents of Cottonpet and were allegedly having an affair for the past few months. On February 16, the boy’s family held a housewarming ceremony in Ranganatha Colony. After the function, the youth, aged 22year-old, took the teenager to the empty house and physically abused.

According to police, the girl’s family demanded that the boy marry her. However, the boy’s family wasn’t yet ready on the idea.

Modern Family Doctor gets additional venture funding

Primary care clinics chain Modern Family Doctor (MFD) Friday announced securing $4 million (Rs.24 crore) from Luxembourg-based Bamboo Finance and Silicon Vally-based investor Saama Capital in the second round of funding.

Set up here in 2011, MFD has now 25 clinics, including 22 across Bangalore and three at Pune with the promoter’s seed capital and $2 million (Rs.10 crore) from first round of funding by the Saama Capital in its earlier avatar as Silicon Valley Bank.

Job fair in Mysore on Feb 23, 24

The State government is organizing a job fair “Dudiyuva Kaigalige Udyoga” on February 23 and 24 in Mysore, Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Nayak said here on Februrary 20. Addressing reporter, he said about 200 companies, including Infosys, Wipro, IBM and Reliance, will participate in the fair.

Human trafficking cases is reported to be highest in B’lore’

Home Minister K J George has said that human trafficking cases in the State there has been raise in the number, and the highest cases have been reported from Bangalore.

In a reply to a question brought up by Y A Narayanswamy (BJP) in the Council, the Home Minister said that as many as 175 cases of women trafficking have been registered.

George, in his statement, said that likewise, during 2012, there were 102 cases recorded and in 2011, 91 cases were filed.

SDPI to contest 4 LS seats in Karnataka

IBM to set system to monitor Bangalore water supply

Global IT major IBM’s big data and predictive analytics will create systems to monitor and manage water supply in Bangalore by the state-run Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

“Our intelligent operations centre-based solution, developed at our India software lab, has the GIS (geo information system) for real-time view of flow meters across the city and identify a specific flow meter,” the company said in a statement here Thursday.

NCC is in accord to give certificates to bearded Muslim students

The High Court of Karnataka disposed of a case against the National Cadet Corps and the ministry of defence by seven students after the organisation agreed to give the students their C Certificates and declare the results for the exam they wrote last year.

The seven students, all Muslims, of Al Ameen College, were not permitted to write the C Certificate exams for the reason that they were sporting beards. NCC held that this was against the rules followed by the armed forces which exempt only Sikhs from being clean shaven.

Biotech queen Kiran heads Bangalore B-school

India’s biotechnology queen Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the new chairperson of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) as incumbent Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries stepped down.

“The Union Human Resources Development ministry has ratified late Tuesday the appointment of Shaw as the chairperson of the institute’s board of governors in place of Ambani,” a spokesperson told IANS here Wednesday.

As the country’s biotech pioneer, 60-year old Shaw is chairperson of Biocon Ltd, an integrated healthcare firm, delivering bio-pharmaceutical solutions.

City Civil Court issue NBW against Owaisi

On Tuesday, City Civil Court issued a non-bailable warrant against Andhra Pradesh legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi in connection with a complaint against him for an alleged inflammatory speech.

The court directed the Andhra Pradesh police to produce Akbaruddin Owaisi before it on March 18.

The complaint was filed by Dharmapal, a City-based advocate.

Teacher arrested for punishing student

On Tuesday, a teacher was arrested for allegedly beating a student in classroom. The arrested teacher was identified as Satish of BBMP School in Malleswaram.

Satish lock up a class VIII student to a room and beat him with a stick as the boy had tiffed with a senior student. He informed the matter to parents on returning home.

The parents hurried back to the school, had a heated argument with the school authorities and lodged a complaint against Satish, according to Vyalikaval Police.

Three year-old Mariam Kousar out of coma

The relatives of Mariam Kousar are glad to see the three-year-old, who was a victim of alleged medical negligence at the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospital due to an overdose of anaesthesia, finally opened her eyes, three months after the incident.

On Tuesday, Kousar was shifted to a special ward from the ICU at the Malathi Manipal Hospital after relatives said they noticed little movements in her body, sometimes indicating pain.

Two-day workshop conducted for Arabic teachers

A two-day workshop for Arabic teachers, with the intention of forming a better society by moulding ideal Muslim teachers, was held here on February 15.

Hidayah-Mesco Arabic Academy, a unit of Hidayah Foundation, Mangalore, organised the workshop which was inaugurated by Dr C P. Habeeb Rahman , chairman of Unity Health Complex.

Dr. Rahman, in his inaugural speech, explained the aims and objectives of the organisation in taking up various programmes for charitable purposes. The organisation aims at eradicating poverty by empowering women and educating children of the Muslim community.

Students permitted to write NCC exams

The High court of Karnataka directed the Karnataka battalion of the National Cadet Corps ( NCC ) to allow seven Muslim students to write their C- certificate examination here on February 18.

Seven students of Al-Ameen College had filed a petition against the Karnataka battalion for not allowing them to write the examination because they had not shaved off their beards, which they claim to be against their religious belief.

Two persons on foot killed in accidents

On Sunday night, P V Venkatarama Reddy, 38year-old, was killed on the spot after a BMTC bus knocked him down on Devarabeesanahalli bridge outer ring road in the Airport traffic police station limits.

The accident occurred at 9.30 pm when Reddy, a security guard at a private software firm, was homecoming from work. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

In another incident, Gopalaiah, 45year-old, a labourer from Hongasandra, was killed after a hit-and-run vehicle hit him on Singasandra Road, off Hosur Road.

Modi to address two rallies in Karnataka today

Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will address the Bharatha Gellisi rallies in Davangere and Mangalore in Karnataka today.

Meanwhile, the police have made vast arrangements and over 2,000 personnel would be deployed for the rally.

In addition, seven platoons of the KSRP and six platoons of the district armed reserve, two district special forces have been deployed for the rally.

Simply having an electoral photo identification card (EPIC) will not give you the right to cast your vote in the upcoming elections.
Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, on Monday said citizens possessing an EPIC but not having their names on the relevant electoral roll will not be allowed to vote.
