Concern over political literacy among muslim women by Sultana Begum

General Secretary State Janata Dal (S) Mrs. Sultana Begum has observed that the political literacy among Muslim women is abysmal.

She called the Muslim women who have concern towards present decay in the politics to get organised and form a body like Karnataka Muslim Muttahida Mahaz to create political awareness among Muslim women and empower them politically.

“There are Muslim women and Muslim Women’s organizations working in the socio-religious field but there is no single organization which is engaged in the political domain” she said.

Mahaz gears up for LS election

Karnataka Muslim Muttahida Mahaz an apex body of Muslim organization in Karnataka has chalked out its plan to educate masses for better participation in the ensuing parliament election.

Mr. Masood Abdul Khader, convenor of Mahaz has told to Karnataka Muslims that Mahaz had held a meeting of its executive council on March 2, in which it had planned awareness activities to elect good member of Parliament, who can strengthen democracy, work for the welfare of nation and minimize the communal tendencies in politics.

Many parts of the central Karnataka having good population of Muslims, but many of them lack basic religious education. The ignorance about tenents of Islam gave birth to many fake Ulama and Murshids. This band of Ulama and Murshids exploit ignorant masses in the name of religion and to protect their own interest they sow the seeds of hate. This was explained by the young Alim Moulana Syed Faisal Sadath Sakaf Nizami, a post graduate from Deccan’s oldest and premier Islamic Seminary: Jamia Nizamia Hyderabad, who is also pursuing LLB.

Cochlear implant surgery to be brought under government scheme says U T Khader

Health Minister, U T Khader, said that the government is planning to conduct a survey to identify people with hearing impairment in the State.

Speaking at the International Ear care day, on March 3, the minister said, “Cochlear implant surgery costs nearly Rs. 12 lakh and is not within the reach of middle class people. It is intended to evolve a policy to assist large number of patients by bringing Cochlear implant surgery under a government health scheme.”

Karnataka’s first peritoneal dialysis centre inaugurated by U T Khader

The first ever Peritoneal Dialysis centre in a government hospital, in the State was inaugurated by Mr. U T Khader, minister for Health and Family Welfare at Wenlock District Hospital here on March 2.

The dialysis centre has been established under the pilot project of the State government.

Mr. Khader, speaking to press persons, said that the government has established the centre as per its promise given a couple of months ago. “This is a revolutionary step in health care sector”, he added.

Chief Minister misses the Minority convention

Minority wing of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) organised a convention ahead of the Lok Sabha elections which became a platform for minority community leaders, including elected representatives, to ask for more benefits, here on March 2.

Increase in allocation of funds, 15 per cent reservation in nominations to boards and corporations, fielding Muslims from four Lok Sabha constituencies in the State, two from Christian community and removal of government surety clause for loans up to Rs. 1 lakh were among the demands that were raised at the convention.

KSP to recruit Police Constables in Mysore

The Karnataka State Police, Mysore district, has invited online applications for the post of Civil Police Constable (Men & Women). The recruitment is for nearly 145 vacancies ( both men & women ) under the district Commissionerate.

The candidates should not be below 19 years and should not have crossed 25. The age limit, however, has been extended upto 27 for candidates belonging to the SC/ST and Backward Classes. The last date for online generation of application is March 27 before 6pm and the last date for payment of online application fee is March 28.

Private hospitals to go back to health schemes

Private hospitals are expected to resume providing services under Vajpayee Arogya Shree and Yeshasvini schemes in two days’ time.

On Wednesday, members of the Karnataka Private Hospitals’ Forum (KPHF) said that following an assurance from Minister for Health and Family Welfare U K Khader, they would call off the strike and take up again services. Dr Prashanth Kalkod, co-ordinator, KPHF, said that while a written assurance was given by the department with respect to the Yeshasvini scheme, an oral assurance was given regarding the Vajpayee Arogya Shree scheme.

‘Knights in Khaki’ honour to 21 cops

Twenty-one police personnel of different cadres were honoured on the occasion of ‘Knights in Khaki’ for their efficient work and their contributions ranged from helping in efficient traffic control, in busting drug rackets to solving murder cases.

Minor impregnates by mother’s lover

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her mother’s lover recently in Vyalikaval. The duo nowhere to be found after the girl became pregnant.

They were gone into hiding in Tamil Nadu and the police are looking out for them.
According to police, Namitha, a resident of 2nd Cross, Maruthinagar, Vyalikaval, separated with her husband two years ago. Her husband, a labourer, stays with their son in Vyalikaval.

USAID extends support for clean energy

The US Consulate General as part of the United States Agency for International Aid on Tuesday announced two new partnerships in the City so as to make easier to gain access to clean energy. in India .

As part of the collaboration, the USAID has granted $2 lakh to Solar Electric Light Company (SELCO) Foundation, a social enterprise working en route for providing sustainable energy solutions, and to Orb Energy – a clean energy service provider, both based in Bangalore.

New solar energy policy soon: D K Shivakumar

On Tuesday, Energy minister D K Shivakumar said that the new solar energy policy would be in place from 2014 to 2020.

Speaking at the national convention of natural resources at the Indian Sustainability Congress, Shivakumar said that the government was making a supreme effort to enhance generation of power from the renewable energy sector.

The Solar Energy Act 2011, a draft of which was approved by the government, would bring down power consumption by 30 to 40 per cent.

Citizen services project “Sakaala” gets ISO 9001 certification

Sakaala, the citizen services project, has received ISO 9001 certification for quality service.
On Tuesday, Shalini Rajneesh, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra and Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) Principal Secretary unveiled the certification.

The 20-month-old DPAR initiative added 25 more services to Sakaala, taking the total to 478, out of which, 140 services are provided online.

Karnataka clears Rs.13,770 crore of investment projects

The Karnataka government Tuesday cleared 18 projects with a combined investment of Rs.13,770 crore to create employment to 44,726 people across the state.

The projects were approved at the 34th state high level clearance committee meeting, attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his cabinet colleagues, the chief secretary and other officials.

Of the 18 projects, four projects will be in Kolar district, three in Bangalore Rural, two each in Bellary and Tumkur districts, while one each in Bangalore Urban, Chikkaballapur, Davanagere, Dharwad, Hassan, Koppal and Mandya districts.

Diamonds worth Rs 4 crore seized, accused nabbed

The Rajajinagar police had detained a person for allegedly trying to sell diamonds illegally to a City-based businessman.

According to police, the accused, Vetrivelu, 47year-old, a native of Tamil Nadu, had come to the City on February 25 with diamonds worth Rs four crore in his possession. He was lodging in Shivaal’s hotel in Rajajinagar.
Acting on a tip-off, the police went to the hotel in mufti and on the pretext of buying diamonds nabbed Vetrivelu.

Mr. Dinesh, former journalist said that the seeds of disharmony between AHINDA (minorities, backward classes and dalits) communities have always been used in order to suppress them.

Bangaloreans to shell out Rs 80.18 for petrol, Rs 60 for diesel

On Friday, Petrol price was hiked by 60 paise a litre, the second increase this year whereas diesel gets dearer by 50 paise a litre making it the 14th hike since January 2013.

The hikes, effective from Friday midnight, are with the exception of local sales tax or VAT and actual increase will be higher and will differ from city to city.

Petrol price, which was last hiked on January 4, will cost Rs 80.18 from Rs 79.38 in Bangalore. It will be Rs 73.16 a litre from Rs 72.43 at present in Delhi.

Ambareesh set to be treated at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore

Actor and Housing Minister M H Ambareesh will be shifted to Singapore for further treatment early on Saturday, doctors said on Friday.

The actor is stable and his family has decided to take him to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

He will leave in an air ambulance around 3.30am, as said by a spokesperson of Vikram Hospital where the actor is being treated.
