Infosys Chief “say no” to campaign for Nandan Nilekani

Narayana Murthy, Infosys Chief refused to campaign for his ex-colleagues Nandan Nilekani and V Balakrishnan for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Despite his refusal to campaign for the two former Infosys men, Murthy wished the very best for the election. Murthy, who maintained to be an apolitical person, said, “I am apolitical…as executive chairman of Infosys I have to treat every party with equal respect.” We should be working with every government: Narayana Murthy “…We should be working with every government, doesn’t matter what hue that comes into power on 17 May” Murthy added.

SSLC language papers easy, says students

The first day of the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examinations on Friday was a piece of cake for students with many of them looking forward to secure very high marks in their first language paper.

Venkatesh R, a student of Kerala Niketan School, is also hopeful to score around 90 marks in English. “It was an easy paper. I am worried about the Hindi exam now,” said Venkatesh.

KPTCL all set to take into service women as ‘linemen’

The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) is all set to take into service women as assistant ‘linemen’, months after it agreed to comply with an order of the High Court in this regard.

However, it, said female candidates would be considered only if they climbed the electricity poles the way men could.
The energy department will shortly appoint linemen to maintain its power supply lines. In November, 2013, the KPTCL had told the High Court that it would abide by its order to hire women as ‘linemen’.

IBM to open new lab in Bangalore

Global IT major IBM Friday announced investing $100 million to set eight new labs worldwide, including one here for enabling its clients work with experts in design, mobile and digital marketing.

“We will open the new labs in Bangalore, Beijing, Groningen (Netherlands), London, Melbourne, New York, Sao Paulo and Shanghai to provide our clients an opportunity to work with our researchers and consultants on design, data and analytics,” the US-based company said in a statement here.

Pune FC force draw with Bengaluru FC

Pune FC showcased their bench-strength as substitute Anthony D’Souza struck a 73rd minute equaliser and the visitors forced a 1-1 draw with I-Leaders Bengaluru FC here Friday.

Bengaluru, who led by a 25th minute goal from Thoi Singh, yielded ground in the second-half when Pune took the upper hand to rattle the home team with the equaliser and had good chances to even pull off a victory.

HCG Foundation in collaboration with Infosys Foundation launched “Mobile Cancer Clinic,” for early detection of cancer in the City on Thursday.

The mobile clinic was inaugurated by Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation. The clinic will have a doctor, nurse and paramedical staff and is equipped with mammography, ultrasound system, X–ray system, pathology and a lab will start by providing cancer care in North Karnataka.

Sub-Inspector held for blackmailing and allegedly trying to rape girl

A Sub-Inspector was detained for allegedly trying to rape a college girl in a lodge at Belgaum on Thursday evening.

The accused has been identified as A K Nadaf, attached to the Khade Bazaar police station, Belgaum.

According to sources, the victim Aruna (name changed), is an II PUC science student, hails from Karwar was allegedly being blackmailed by Nadaf into having a physical relationship with him. He had allegedly raped her six times in different lodges in the past, by threatening her. He was caught trying to rape her a seventh time.

Around 30 new colleges under Bangalore University have been granted affiliation for the year 2014-15. The decision was announced at the Syndicate meeting of the university held on Wednesday.

CCB of Bangalore police rescued 11 Mumbai girls from ‘live band’ in City

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths of Bangalore claim to have rescued 11 girls from Mumbai who were forced to perform in a live band at a pub in the City.

Four suspects — Sanjay Jaswant, Mohammed Najmi, Faizan and Mohammed Azamare arrested by them — while another is on the run. The CCB said it raided a house in Mallathahalli after receiving a tip-off from one of the victims.

The suspects, , had “promised” their friend, Karan — who runs Crazy Nights, a pub in the City — to get girls who can perform live dance at his tavern, as said by CBI.

Fortis to add 280 hospital beds in Bangalore

Leading healthcare service provider Fortis Healthcare Ltd is expanding its presence in this tech hub with 280 hospital beds, a statement said here Tuesday.

This will include a 70-bed mother and child care facility.

“The 210-bed tower in the city’s southern suburb will have a cancer-care facility, with additional operation theatres, a brain suite and intensive care units,” Fortis said.

Toyota India hires contract labourers to resume production

Toyota India has hired about 1,000 people on contract to resume production as a stand-off with its trade union continued Tuesday over its employees not signing an undertaking for good conduct before resuming duty.

“As employees are not joining duty even after the eight-day lockout was lifted early Monday, we have taken about 1,000 people on contract to resume production,” a company official told IANS Tuesday, citing a statement issued earlier.

According to real estate analysts the rate of growth of rent has not kept pace with capital value. If the capital value is around 15 per cent, rents are growing lower at about eight to 10 per cent.

Message conveyed by kids on World Water Day

Bangalore city conducted a flurry of activity to raise awareness among the people on conservation of water marked the World Water Day on Saturday.

Children drawn from various schools, took part in colouring competition at Bal Bhavan, on Save Water for My Tomorrow, and participated in a cycle rally, under the auspices of Water Literacy Foundation.

And college students too gave away empty pots of ink, carrying the message — No Lake, No Water — under the banner of the United Way of Bengaluru, formed part of the activities.
