Liver transplants will be perform by BMC

Bangalore Medical College (BMC) recently obtained permission to perform liver transplants and as many as 15 people have already registered themselves for a liver transplant.

Dr M M Satish Kumar, Assistant professor, Institute of Nephro-Urology, Victoria Hospital, addressing a press conference here, said: “BMC, which previously had permission to perform kidney transplants, had requested that it be allowed to perform liver transplants as well.”

BWSSB ‘helpless’ against water theft

Water theft continues to occur in Ashwini Layout and VGS Layout near Ejipura, regardless of notices issued by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to over 32 residents a month ago.

A lot of residents in this area have been using motor pumps and drawing directly from the Board’s main water lines, which have a bearing on the water supply to other residents, who have been left without adequate supply of water.

Re-polling in 12 booths in Karnataka Tuesday

Re-polling will be held Tuesday in a dozen polling booths spread across nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka due to glitches in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and fault of polling personnel in one booth, a senior official said Saturday.

“We have ordered re-polling in 11 booths of nine parliamentary seats after technicians found the EVMs used in them faulty and due to mishandling of the machine in one booth,” state chief electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha told reporters here.

With cycle rates going up, the government is also finding it tough to continue the free bicycle scheme for high school girl students. Even during 2013-14 the government could not distribute bicycles. The last distribution was in 2012-13 when the BJP was in power. The government has provided Rs 175 cr for purchasing six lakh bicycles.

BU proposed a ‘grace marks’ system to curtail exam fraud

In the wake of the cash-for-marks scam rocking Bangalore University’s distance education examinations, the Bangalore University’s on Friday proposed a ‘grace marks’ system to check such irregularities.

The proposed system will allow for marks to be transferred from one subject to another in order to provide a chance to students to clear the examinations. Student need not apply for this separately. The marks would be taken into account while tabulating the results.

Man kidnaps wife from her workplace

In a strange incident, a man allegedly kidnapped his wife from near her workplace in Kengeri on Friday.

Deepa, a resident of BTM Layout and Ajay, a resident of Yemlur, fell in love and got married a year ago. Initially, they had a cordial relationship but lately there were frequent fights between them, according to police.

Poll code relaxed in Karnataka

The Election Commission Wednesday relaxed the Model Code of Conduct in Karnataka, five days after polling was held in all the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state, an official said.

“The EC has agreed to the request of the state government to relax the model code, which was enforced March 5 for the Lok Sabha election in the state April 17,” state chief electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha told IANS here.

The conditional relaxation will enable the state government to resume administrative activities that were suspended during the election period.

Stress on women’s dignity at workplaces

Need for a positive environment to respect dignity of women employees and prevent their sexual harassment at workplaces was stressed at a day-long seminar here Thursday.

Govt to deploy CISF commandos to secure UIDAI centre in B’lore

The government is planning to bring the highly classified and sensitive data centre of the UIDAI-sponsored ‘Aadhar’ identity project in Bangalore under an armed security cover of central paramilitary forces.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has tasked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards sensitive vital installations in the government and the private domain, to conduct a security audit of the main building of the centre which is operated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Bangalore-bound Malaysian plane makes emergency landing

A Bangalore-bound Malaysia Airlines plane with 166 people on board turned back shortly after takeoff tonight due to problem in its landing gear.

Flight MH192 landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 1.56am (local time), Malaysia Airlines (MAS) tweeted.

“The aircraft’s right-hand landing gear malfunctioned upon takeoff and was forced to turn back to Kuala Lumpur,” MAS said.

“All 159 passengers and 7 crew members on board are being disembarked from the aircraft.”

The jet, operated on the B737-800 aircraft, departed from Kuala Lumpur at 10.09pm (0721 IST).

Karnataka orders Toyota, union to restore normalcy

The Karnataka government has ordered Toyota India and its workers’ union to restore normalcy in operations with immediate effect, after there was no let-up in the month-long standoff.

“The government of Karnataka, in order to maintain industrial peace and harmony, has issued an order asking the company and the union to restore normalcy in operations immediately,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd. said in a statement Sunday.

Karnataka CM refutes Jayalalithaa’s charges on Cauvery issue

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Saturday refuted his Tamil Nadu counterpart Jayalalithaa’s allegations that his government was not releasing Cauvery water and asserted that water is being released as per the Supreme Court guidelines.

Describing Jayalalithaa’s charges as baseless, he alleged that it was Jayalalithaa and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda who have failed to take concrete steps in this regard.

“They are the root cause.. Both of them are aware of their role in the Cauvery issue and are trying to hide their mistake,” he said, without elaborating further.

Karnataka records 67.28 percent voting

Karnataka recorded 67.28 per cent polling in the April 17 single-phase Lok Sabha polls for 28 seats – the third highest turnout in the state for parliamentary elections.

While the highest turnout was recorded in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections with 67.58 per cent of voters exercising their franchise, the second highest was in 1989 polls when the polling percentage was 67.53.

In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2009, the voting percentage was 58.81. The then ruling party BJP had won 19 seats, Congress six and JD-S three.

Election not a referendum on Siddaramaiah govt: Congress

The ruling Congress in Karnataka today asserted it would win more than 20 Lok Sabha seats from the state but there would be no change of Chief Minister if the poll outcome was not in line with their expectations as it was “not a referendum” on Siddaramaiah government.

“Responsibility of this election is both on me as the party President and the Chief Minister as the head of the Congress Legislature party, but one cannot call this election as referendum on our government in the state,” KPCC President G Parameshwara told reporters.

AAP alleges assault on its workers by Congress supporters

AAP on thursday alleged that four of its workers were assaulted by supporters of Karnataka Minister D K Shivakumar during voting near Ramanagar in Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency, where his brother is the Congress candidate.

“Some 100 Congress workers, supporters of Shivakumar, assaulted four of our party workers at Mayaganahalli near Ramanagar,” AAP Bangalore Rural candidate Ravikrishna Reddy alleged.

Union Minister gets EVM direction changed to suit “Vastu”

An election official changed the direction of EVM allegedly at the request of candidate and Union Minister KH Muniyappa to make it “Vastu” compliant, following which he was shifted from a polling centre in Kolar Lok Sabha constituency.

“The official has been shifted from Harohalli polling centre, which is in the city, for changing the direction of the Electronic Voting Machine on Muniyappa’s request to make it Vastu complaint,” Kolar Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer DK Ravi told reporters here.

Changing the direction or position of the EVM is unlawful, he said.

K’taka votes for 28 LS seats

Long queues were seen at polling stations in Karnataka as voters turned up to cast their ballot for the state’s 28 Lok Sabha seats, officials said.

A 46,211,844-strong electorate, including 22,612,084 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise. Karnataka will see single phase polling.

As many as 434 candidates are in the fray. Balloting is being held at 54,261 polling booths.

A total 274,891 polling officials have been deployed in the state.IANS
