Masjid spreads Islamic teachings in Kannada

It is rare to find Kannada language used in Masjids and Muslim organisations, as they usually practice Urdu and Arabic. But here is an example of a Masjid in Dharwad which is spreading the teachings of Islam and the message of Prophet Muhammad in Kannada.

Masjid-e-Aysha, has taken an initiative to spread Islamic teachings in local language by writing Hadees and dua, as majority of the people speak and read Kannada in the locality.

Al-Ameen rep visits Ramanagaram Muslim school

Mr. Mubeen congratulated Ms. Shaheena Banu, headmistress of the residential school for securing 100 percent results in SSLC examination.

MBA student arrested in false MMS case

An MBA student from Bhatkal, residing in Vasanthnagar in a rented house was arrested by the Cyber police on the charge of allegedly circulating anti-modi MMS here on May 25.

The 24 year old accused, Syed Waqas was working as an intern in a private company was staying in Bangalore along with four of his friends who are pursuing MBA and CA courses. Though Osama Alamgar, Rehmatulah, Saad Kola and Mushahid were released after questioning, Waqas was taken to Belgaum for further investigation.

HKBKCE celebrates graduation day

The 14th Graduation Day for the final year outgoing students of BE, MBA and M.Tech was celebrated at the campus of HKBK College of Engineering on May 24. All the students were presented with course completion certificates, character certificates and mementos, on the occasion.

Railway Minister’s brother is Station Master

DV Suresh Gowda, a railway station master in Karnataka, is the younger sibling of Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and he wants his brother to improve railway system in the State, especially Dakshina Kannada region.

Suresh Gowda, station master of Nandikoor near Mangalore, said he does not expect anything from his brother for himself.

Ananth Kumar: Man known for political adroitness

Ananth Kumar, once considered close to party patriarch LK Advani, is from the RSS stable and is known for his political adroitness with his ears close to the ground.

Kumar became a sixth time Lok Sabha member from Bangalore South, defeating Congress candidate and IT Czar Nandan Nilekani by a margin of 2,28,575 votes in what had appeared to be a keen contest that would throw up a challenge to him.

Born in a middleclass Brahmin family on 22 July 1959, 55- year-old Kumar is a Law graduate from Mysore University.

Brainy Stars participates in ‘Times Kidz’ expo

Brainy Stars International Islamic Montessori participated in ‘Times Kidz World’, a Pre-Schools expo 2014, organized by Times Group here at The Lalit Ashok from May 17 to 19.

A large number of Montessori and pre-schools partook in the expo carrying various visions and techniques for the early childhood education of children. Compared to all visions the vision of brainy stars was found to be unique.

Tipu’s gold ring auctioned in London

Tipu Sultan, the 18th-century Mysore ruler’s gold ring was sold at a price of £140,500 (Rs. 1.42 crore) by the Christie’s auction house for a much higher price than estimated on May 22.

The ring weighing 41.2 gm has the name ‘Ram’ inscribed on it in Devnagari script. The ring is said to have been taken off from Tipu Sultan’s finger after his death in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War by Duke of Wellington Arthur Welleslley.

Free course to become Alim and commerce graduate

MARKHINS Institution has formulated a novel scheme for the upliftment of Muslims. The institute has started a course for SSLC passed students in which they will be taught commerce subjects along with Islamic studies. The seven year course will make a student Alim and a post graduate in commerce stream.

While the student will get commerce degree either from Bangalore University or Indira Gandhi Open National University (IGNOU), the almiat course is affiliated with Markazus Saqafatus Sunniya, Calicut.

Protesters in Bangalore raise voices against US biotech firm over health and environmental hazards

The members of coalition for GM (Genetically Modified) free India took to streets in country’s IT hub Bangalore on Saturday against American multinational chemical and agricultural biotech giant, Monsanto Corporation, asking it to quit due to health and environmental hazards.

Monsanto, headquartered in Creve Coeur, Missouri, in the United States is the largest producer of genetically modified seed.

ATS picks up Bengaluru man concerning Chennai blasts

On Thursday, the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) officials have picked up a man from Bengaluru in connection with the twin blasts that took place in the Bangalore-Guwahati Express in Chennai on May 1.

The man was picked up from Gouripalaya near Chandra Layout for interrogation as the sleuth’s suspect that he was abreast of some activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who were allegedly behind the blasts that rocked Chennai Central Railway Station.

Complaint against Ananthamurthy over Modi remark

Jnanapith awardee U R Ananthamurthy has to face trouble as a complaint has been lodged against with Sanjaynagar police for his controversial remarks against the Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi.

Accordng to Manjunath and Prakash, members of an organisation named “Nonda Bharathiyaru,” in their complaint stated that the writer is only trying to muddle up communal harmony by saying that he would leave the country if Modi became the prime minister.

Rida Rahman, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, M.G. colony,Bangalore, has scored out of out in class tenth CBSE examination 2013-14 with cumulative grade point average (CGPA): 10/10.

She is a daughter of Ms. Saira Nasreen, divisional operations manager, construction in South Western Railway. Rida dreams to become a doctor. In a bid to retain doctors, Health Minister revised pay scale

In an attempt to retain doctors and attract more specialists to government hospitals, the health department is planning a considerable hike in their salaries.

Health Minister U T Khader while addressing a press conference in Bangalore, said the department has proposed to increase the salaries of MBBS doctors from present Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month and that of post-graduate (PG) doctors from present Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh per month.

The proposal has been sent to the finance department and will soon be placed before the cabinet for approval, Khader said.

Govt intend to tap corporate funding for projects

In an attempt to reduce its financial burden, the State governmen is looking to tap into the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the multinational companies.

On Thursday, T B Jayachandra, Law Minister said that various departments of the government have already been approaching corporate for funding the government projects under their CSR initiative.

Health Inspectors shortage agonize BBMP

The (BBMP) is facing acute shortage of health inspectors. Over 50 per cent of the 132 sanctioned posts of health inspectors are vacant.

While if at all possible, each ward must have one senior health inspector, details obtained from each zone reveals that only 50 per cent of posts are filled. There are 198 wards in City.

Senior inspectors are given key responsibilities from ensuring health to proper waste management.
Main duties include issuing food trade licence, curbing mosquito menace, taking measures to control communicable diseases and dealing with sanitation problems.

Karnataka seeks Centre nod for special courts to try land grabbing cases

Karnataka Government would try to prevail upon the Central government to allow it to set up special courts to try cases of encroachment of government land and to get Presidential nod for the Karnataka Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill, 2011, passed by the legislature.

“I will visit Delhi to meet the Union Home Secretary to prevail over the importance of setting up special courts to try cases of encroachment of government land and to get Presidential nod for the bill,” state Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters here.

Heavy rain, hailstorm lash Bangalore

Wednesday evening threw life out of gear in many parts of the City, mainly South Bangalore by down pouring heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm.

Several trees and electric poles were uprooted, which leads to the disruption in power supply and traffic jams and chaos on roads.

According to the BBMP officials, more than 30 trees were uprooted in Hanumantha Nagar, Girinagar, Chamarajpet, Basappa Circle, Banashankari, Basaveshwaranagar,Jagajivanram Nagar, Thyagarajanagar, Nagarbhavi and Vijayanagar.

Illegal hoardings remain an eyesore post-LS poll result

The BBMP seems to have turned a blind eye towards the numerous illegal hoardings that have sprung everywhere, soon after the Lok Sabha results were announced.

Once the model code of conduct was announced, the Palike cracked the whip on illegal flexes and hoardings that flooded the City.
Over 29,585 flexes and banners and 26 unauthorized advertisement panels were removed by the civic agency removed. However, it is yet to initiate action against the advertisers after the results were out.

Three cueists nominated for Arjuna Award

The Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) has nominated Chitra Magimairaj, Vidya Pillai and Brijesh Damani for the prestigious Arjuna Award.

According to a BSFI press release here Wednesday, the nominations have been made based on their performances over a four-year cycle.

Eminent cueist and former World champion Manoj Kothari’s name has been put up for the Dronacharya Award.
