Sexual assault on minor girls in schools: Siddaramaiah warns managements

Amid public outrage over a spate of sexual assaults on minor girls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday warned managements that permission granted to their schools would be revoked and criminal cases booked against them if they violate guidelines for safety of children.

“Sexual assaults on minor girls have made the civil society hang its head in shame. Even beasts don’t behave like this. It is inhuman and condemnable,” he said, as public anger grew over the latest sexual assault of a six-year old girl in the fourth such incident in as many months in schools here.

From Today, It’s Bengaluru, Not Bangalore

The Silicon City has a new name now. From Nov 1 onwards, Bangalore and other 11 cities in Karnataka will be called by their old Kannada names.

So Bangalore becomes Bengaluru, Mysore becomes Mysuru and more. This change comes on Kannada Rajyotsava, a day when Karnataka turns 68.

While the Karnataka government had proposed the move in 2006, the Central government cleared it only this month and a notification to this effect was issued last evening

The names of a total 12 cities and towns have been changed in consonance with their pronunciation in Kannada language.

PM Narendra Modi greets Karnataka on state formation day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Karnataka on their state formation day or Kannada Rajyotsava, celebrated today.

“Greetings to people of Karnataka on Kannada Rajyotsava. May Karnataka scale new heights of progress in the years to come,” Prime Minister Modi said.

On this day in 1956, the Kannada speaking regions came together to form the state of Karnataka.

Every year the day is celebrated by organising literary and cultural fest. Those who contributed for the enrichment of Kannada language and culture are honoured by the Chief Minister.

Bangalore child rape: Activists, parents protest against school

Hundreds of socio-political activists and parents Friday staged a massive demonstration against a private school in the city’s eastern suburb where a six-year-old girl student was allegedly raped twice this week by a teacher.

Seeking severe punishment to the suspect and stringent action against the school for the horrifying crime in its premises, many parents said the management was not forthcoming on what safety measures it had taken to protect their wards.

Another girl sexually assaulted in school in Bangalore

In yet another shocking incident, a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in a private school here in the fourth such case in as many months.

The girl, studying in the first standard, was allegedly sexually assaulted twice on October 28 and 29, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar told reporters here.

A man, who is “strongly suspected” for the offence, has been detained and is being questioned “thoroughly” with cases booked under Sections 376 of IPC and 5 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

Another Bangalore school girl raped, suspect arrested

A physical training teacher at a private school was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping a six-year-old student twice this week, a police official said.

“We have arrested the accused, Jaishankar, on a complaint by the victim’s parents that he had allegedly raped their young daughter twice in the school in Indirangar area,” Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar told reporters.

2,600 Karnataka doctors resume duty after quitting in protest

About 2,600 doctors including specialists, working in state-run hospitals across Karnataka, resumed duty Tuesday a day after they resigned in protest over the state government’s failure to fulfill their demands, including of wage disparity.

“All striking doctors are back on duty as we do not want patients to suffer from want of treatment. We will not take back our resignations till the government meets our major demands,” Karnataka State Government Medical Officers’ Association president T.A. Veerabhadraiah told IANS here.

911 govt doctors resign from posts

Stepping up their two day agitation, 911 government doctors today resigned from their posts over the state government’s alleged failure to meet their 14 point charter of demands, including wage revision.

“As many as 911 government doctors have submitted their resignations. However their resignations have not been accepted,” Health Minister U T Khader told reporters here.

A decision on their resignations would be taken only after examining whether these were submitted under any threat, pressure or inducement,” he said.

Bangalore school, where 3-year-old was allegedly raped, reopens

The elite Bangalore school, where a three-year-old was raped on October 21 by an office assistant working at the same organisation, reopened on Monday.

School has remained closed since the crime was reported by the child’s parents.

Police had on Saturday achieved a breakthrough in the alleged sexual abuse of the nursery student by arresting Gundappa after the child identified him during the investigation.

Irregularities in recruitments in Karnataka University

The Special of Lok Ayukta of Karnataka kept in abeyance the petitions submitted by three syndicate members and three lecturers for bail in connection with irregularities committed in the recruitment of lecturers etc. till 28th October. The arrested lecturers are S.T. Bagalkot, Dr. B.M. Shanker and Dr. C. Rajasekhar. The members of the Syndicate are Mr. N.R. Balay, Mr. Shanker Gouda Patil and Mr. Beer Gouda Patil.

Bangalore: Youth Congress holds protest over black money

Youth Congress workers staged a protest here on Saturday against the central government for failing to bring black money back into the country, as promised during the Lok Sabha elections.

“Before the elections, they had promised that they would bring back the black money within 100 days, but now it has been 150 days. The government has been unable to bring back the black money. They fooled the people before elections. They won’t be able to get the black money in five years,” said a protester.

The protesters also raised slogans like ‘Why these double standards? Why make false promises?’

Minor rape case: Fraud case registered against Bangalore school

A case of fraud has been registered against the school in Bangalore where the recent incident of sexual abuse of a three-year-old student took place as the educational institution has no record to prove that it is affiliated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

“A case has been registered under Section 420. They are cheating the public as the school has no records to prove it is CBSE affiliated,” said Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammed Moshin.

Bangalore police detains suspect in minor girl sexual assault case; files criminal charges against school

Bangalore Police have detained a suspect and filed a criminal complaint against the private school where a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her school teacher on Tuesday.

According to reports, a school attendant has been detained by the police for interrogation.

The principal of the private school where the alleged rape took place had earlier on Wednesday said that the institution would abide by the law and use all of its resources to nab the perpetrators of the crime.

Nursery student sexually abused in Bangalore school

In the third such incident in the past four months, a three-year-old girl student was allegedly sexually abused inside a private school here yesterday, police said.

“A three-year-old girl studying in nursery class was allegedly sexually abused here,” Joint Commissioner (Crime) Hemant Nimbalkar told PTI late tonight.

A criminal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and IPC section 376 (rape) on a complaint from the father of the child, he said.

Change of name of Gulbarga opposed

Senior leader of Gulbarga, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed strongly opposed the proposal of Govt. of Karnataka to change the name of Gulbarga district. In a press statement released yesterday, he told that Gulbarga is a historical name. During the Bahmani period, its name was Husnabad. After the arrival of Hazrath Khwaja Banda Nawaz, its name was changed as Gulbarga. “Gul” means flower and “Barga” means leaves. So in this way the city carried the name Gulbarga. It is not appropriate to change historical names of the city.
