BCCI accused of misappropriating president, PM’s photos

Accusing the Indian cricket board of wrongfully publishing the photographs of the Indian president and prime minister in its recent annual report, Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma has sought the intervention of the country’s first citizen in the matter.

Verma, in a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday, charged Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials of dragging the constitutional heads of the country into a controversy by publishing their photographs without approval on the cover page of the report.

Another suspected IM operative held

Another suspected Indian Mujahideen operative has been arrested at the Mangaluru international airport here before he was to board a Dubai-bound flight.

Riyaz (32), who was residing at Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district, was picked up last night by Bengaluru Police with the help of their counterpart here, police said today.

He was held based on information provided by three suspected IM operatives who were arrested on January 8 at Bhatkal and Bengaluru.

Riyaz had been taken to Bengaluru for interrogation, police said.

Karnataka’s oil rake wagon catches fire

An oil rake wagon filled with Indian Oil fuel caught fire in Karnataka’s Belagavi District on Saturday.

The incident took place in Deshanur Village, reports said. No causalities were reported, but rail traffic was disrupted.

Two sections of the wagon caught fire. So far, flames in one section have been doused.

20 men jailed for school riots in Bangalore

A 7-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her teacher at a local school have been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

“Till now, 20 people have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. More arrests are likely soon, as we are still examining the photographs and the video footage. We are told that most of the suspects are from the neighbouring JJ Nagar and Goripalya,” senior police officer said that.

On Friday Chamarajpet MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan approached City Police Commissioner M N Reddi and requested him not to arrest “innocent” people in the rioting case.

Karnataka CM chopper catches fire

A major accident was averted on Saturday as a technical glitch led to a fire in Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s chopper.

The silence of the helicopter caught fire and all the passengers had to disembark. No injuries were reported
The CM immediately got out of the chopper when the smoke was detected. He was accompanied by his staff and the PWD Minister.

Amit Shah to visit Mangaluru on Jan 27

BJP’s membership campaign in Dakshina Kannada district is expected to get a boost with the scheduled visit of party’s national president Amit Shah to the city on January 27, party district president K Pratap Simha Nayak has said.

Shah would be addressing a public meeting in the city after attending the ‘Mahamastakabhisheka’ (bathing of Bhagwan Bahubali’s statue with libations like milk, sugarcane juice and sandal paste) in Karkala being held from January 21 to 31, he said in a statement here.

Karnataka police seizes bomb making equipment in raids

The Karnataka Police on Thursday seized substantial quantities of bomb-making chemicals and equipment in simultaneous raids conducted in Bangalore and Bhatkal.

The police also arrested three people during the raids.

“The Bangalore City Police and the Internal Security Division of the Karnataka State Police has conducted raids in Bangalore and Bhatkal town of the North Canara district. In both these locations, a lot of incriminating material has been seized,” Bangalore City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told mediapersons.

Bangalore school molestation: Authorities not curbing sexual violence, say activists

Social activists on Wednesday condemned the latest case of sexual violence to emerge from a school in Bangalore, alleging that authorities are not taking the correct measures to curtail such incidents from taking place.

The activists were referring to the alleged molestation of an eight year old girl by a physical education instructor in a Bangalore school. The accused has been taken into custody.

8-year-old girl molested by teacher in Bengaluru school

Police lathi-charged dozens of angry parents and used tear gas shells to disperse people protesting against the alleged sexual assault on an 8-year-old girl inside a Bengaluru school on Wednesday.

Parents on Wednesday protested outside the school demanding action against the teacher. The accused is said to be a repeat offender.

The last case was reported in December, leading to the arrest of a school attendant at a private school in East Bengaluru. At least four other incidents of sexual assault on schoolgirls were reported from the IT City in 2014.

Jaya DA case: DMK leader seeks removal of SPP

DMK General Secetary K Anbazhagan on Tuesday filed a petition before a special bench of the Karnataka High Court, seeking removal of Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh in the disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others, alleging he was “sailing” with the accused.

As soon as the court began its second day of day-to-day hearing, Anbazhagan’s counsel sought removal of Singh from presenting arguments as he alleged that the SPP was “sailing” with the accused and not presenting the facts properly.

Day-to-day hearing on Jaya’s appeal begins in Karnataka HC

The Special Bench of Karnataka High Court today began day-to-day hearing of appeals filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others challenging their conviction in the disproportionate assets case.

Justice Kumaraswamy rejected the plea of Jayalalithaa, seeking adjournment of the case till January 12 to study the copy of the Supreme Court order in the case.
