Man arrested for ‘impregnanting’ wife’s best friend five months ago

A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Rajajinagar police raping his wife’s “best friend” at knifepoint five months ago.

The suspect, Srinivas,an attende at a private finance firm, had a “crush” on the 23-year-old victim, a housekeeper at a private firm. According to police, he tried to make advances to her but she rejected him. Five months ago, Srinivas is alleged to have called up the victim, requesting her to help him as his wife had “met with an accident”.

Founder of surrogacy clinic detained

K T Gurumurthy, the founder of a hi-tech surrogacy clinic in Basaveshwarnagar has been in prison on the charge of “cheating” more than 30 people who alleged that he failed to keep his promise to help them get babies through surrogacy and egg donation.

Kamakshipalya police arrested K T Gurumurthy, the founder and managing director of Shrushti Global Medicare and Research Foundation, after more than 30 people made a complaint of cheating against him.

Dr Harold Varmus, Nobel laureate and director of the National Cancer Institute, USA, has said that it will take another 20 to 30 years to control the symptoms of cancer without having to wait for the disease to strike. Notorious Rowdies in CCB net

On Tuesday, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested three associates of notorious rowdy Umesh Shetty and recovered a revolver and other weapons from them.

Based on a information, the police arrested the trio at a playground near HMT Layout in Yeshwantpur police station limits, while they were planning to burgle a house.
The arrested are Narayana Bahadur Singh and Nabeen Rukaya from Nepal and Santosh, a native of Belthangadi in Dakshina Kannada.

Santosh is wanted in many cases in Mumbai, whereas, Singh is involved in 20 house burglaries.

Strike by Govt employees’ on 12 and 13 February

The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers – Karnataka State, has announced a 48-hour nationwide strike on February 12 and 13.

The participant in the strike include the employees from the Accounts, Postal, Audit, Income Tax, Survey of India, , Geological Survey of India, Ground Water Board, Central Excise among 40 Central Government departments, said a press release from the organisation.

Karnataka keen to revive mining activity

Karnataka is keen to resolve issues confronting the mining industry and revive its activity in the state soon, Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra said Wednesday.

“We have set up a cabinet sub-committee to address the issues plaguing the mining industry and restore its operations despite legal constrains,” Jayachandra said here at a day-long conference on “Mining in Karnataka: Restoring normal operations”.

Karnataka to launch new industrial policy from April

Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj Wednesday announced that the state would implement a new industrial policy from April 1 to attract investments aimed at creating a million jobs in the next five years.

The government also holds a Global Investors Meet in Bangalore in October this year to showcase investment opportunities in the state, he said addressing the joint session of the two houses of Karnataka legislature, marking the beginning of the legislative business for the year.

The details of the policy are being worked out and would be announced soon, according to official sources.

‘Kejriwal should become a ruler, not an agitator’: Narayanasamy

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office ( PMO) and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for staging a protest demanding suspension of erring police officials, stating that Kejriwal should become a ruler and not an agitator.

“It is a very unfortunate situation. A chief minister of a state is sitting on a ‘dharna’ causing inconvenience to the commuters and the public. Chief Minister is there to govern the state not to agitate. He is there to control the agitation; he himself has become an agitator,” he told media here today.

Karnataka through to Ranji finals after day 5 washout

Karnataka booked their spot in the summit clash of the Ranji Trophy after the final day of their semifinal match against Punjab was washed out, here today.

Karnataka, who entered the final by the virtue of first innings lead, will take on Maharashtra at Hyderabad from January 29.

The match was called off by the umpires without a ball being bowled on the fifth day due to persistent rain. The first day of the match was also wiped out.

Coffee fest returns to Bangalore with aroma

As the country’s coffee capital, Bangalore is, after a four-year hiatus, hosting again the India International Coffee Festival (IICF-2014) from Thursday to spread the brew’s aroma.

Held biennially since 2002 by stakeholders, including growers, roasters, traders and exporters with state support, the previous fourth edition of the three-day fest was held in New Delhi in January 2012 to create greater awareness and promote the beverage in non-traditional areas where tea and other soft drinks are consumed more.

Clean chit to Shashi Tharoor from Shiv Menon

Shiv Menon, Sunanda Pushkar’s son on Tuesday issued a statement ruling out foul play and gave a clean chit to his step father and Union Minister Shashi Tharoor.

Shiv Menon stated that Sunanda was too strong to commit suicide, the letter added that her death was an “unfortunate mix of stress, tension and wrong medication.” It further stated: “Her death was peaceful, she passed in her sleep.”

A tent-owner found murder

Early Tuesday morning, a tenthouse owner was found murdered at an open farmland on Kaggalipura Main Road near Bannerghatta. Local inhabitants found an sports utility vehicle abandoned at the farmland and the body of a man lying close by with his throat slit.

The deceased was identified as Rajanna alias Gidda Rajanna, 55years-old, a resident of Kariyappanahalli.

Cable TV operator was killed

On Monday night, a cable operator was stabbed to death by his friends following an argument at Byrappa Block in Thyagaraja Nagar. The deceased was identified as Puneeth Kumar, 25, was a resident of the same block.

Tricolour to flutter at dizzy heights in Bangalore

Security guard mowed down a speeding car

A speeding car mowed down a security guard and injured two others after it collide with an electricity pole near RV Engineering College on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Manu, 41, resident of Mutturayanagar .He was working as a security guard at a private automobile showroom on Mysore Road.

The mishap occurred at around 7.45 pm when Manu was on his way to a nearby hotel. A speeding car hit him down before crashing into an electricity pole.

Dejected with the family, teenage attempted suicide

late on Sunday night, a teenage lovers attempted suicide on railway tracks ended in the death of the boy and the girl sustaining serious injuries.

The teenage lovers has been identified as Renuka Prasad 17years-old, a resident of Kammanahalli in Magadi. Prasad was in love with a 14-year-old girl, a class IX dropout, for the past couple of months. Prasad used to work as a data operator with a private company,where as the girl was employed at a garments factory.

Bike ramps into the road

On Sunday, an 18-year-old student was killed after he rammed his bike into the road median near Sahakarnagar Cross .

According to police, Sanjeev, a resident of Byatarayanapura and a BSc student, was overspeeding, and lost control over the bike when he drove over a road hump. Sanjeev died on the spot.

Ghulam Nabi Azad launches National Urban Health Mission in Bangalore

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) here to provide timely quality health services to the urban poor.

“Eight years back we launched National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), in which we launched many hospitals, which resulted in reduced infant and maternity mortality rate. We want to launch same thing in urban areas,” he told media here today.

National health mission for urban poor unveiled

Indian Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad Monday launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) here to provide health security to the urban poor, amounting to about 200 crore people.

“The mission envisages setting up health check-up infrastructure and create manpower for the welfare of the poor dwelling in cities and towns on the lines of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM),” he said on the occasion.

The central government will bear 80 percent of the cost of implementing the programme in 779 urban areas with over 50,000 population across the country by 2015.

Mother, son hang themselves after father leaves home

A 44-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son, an engineering student, reportedly hanged themselves with a ceiling fan at their home in Balaji Layout, Kodigehalli on Sunday evening.

According to Police, Prema and her son, Rajath, were very disturbed after her husband Suryaprakash left home 15 days ago following a quarrel. Prema had fought with her husband, an alcoholic, urging him to give up drinking.

Suryaprakash then left home, promising never come back. His absence made the mother and son depressed due to which they took the extreme step, added police.

Teen dies inexplicably

Syed Salman, 19-year-old BBM student died of mysterious injuries in the early hours of Sunday. Salman was a resident of J C Nagar, was brought to the M S Ramaiah Hospital late on Saturday night by a young man who claimed to be his friend. He, however, left the hospital soon after.

Police investigations have revealed that Salman hung out with one of his friends on Saturday evening. Police sources said, when his father called him up around 9 pm, he himself returned the call and said he would come home soon.

Techie killed

Padal Sooryanarayana Reddy, 23, a software engineer from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was killed when he lost control over his two-wheeler and rammed it into a road divider near HAL helicopter division on Saturday night.

Reddy was riding a bike on Varthur Main Road and his colleague, Gajjal Dhiresh Krishna, was on the back-seat.
According to Police sources, Reddy was speeding when a moped coming from the opposite direction applied sudden brakes to avoid hitting a dog. Reddy, in turn, applied brakes to avoid ramming the moped.

8-year-old was sexually abused by the youth

On Saturday evening, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her teenage neighbour in Jakkasandra. Police said the teenager forced the victim, a class III student at a government school, into his house when she was playing outside. Though the suspect has been held but police have refused to disclose his identity, suspecting him to be underage.

Karnataka police begins Bhatkal’s interrogation

City police today began interrogation of the Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal on his alleged involvement in the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium blast case.

“We have begun Bhatkal’s interrogation in Chinnaswamy stadium blast case and he will be in our custody till January 28,” City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told PTI.

Bhatkal, under judicial custody in Tihar Jail in connection with various terror attack cases, was brought to the city yesterday. “He was handed over to us by National Investigative Agency last night,” Auradkar said.
