Galla blames ministers, MPs for fund crunch

Guntur, April 26: The Roads and Buildings Minister Galla Arunakumari said Union Road Transport and Highways ministry was not responding to various proposals on several projects sent by the State Government.

Speaking to presspersons here today, she attributed the Centre’s negligence to the apathy of Union Ministers and MPs from the State.

CM’s Kurnool halt leaves bitter aftertaste

Kurnool, April 26: Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s sojourn at Kurnool ended up in a bitter experience.

He was forced to apologise to Kurnool MP Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy, ZP chairman A Venkataswamy and Kodumur MLA Murali for not being able to meet them despite their wait for more than a quater hour. Alleging that only cash and caste were being given importance at all places, former minister Mareppa (Congress) left the place in a huff.

Meanwhile, the Opposition lambasted the chief minister for failing to enquire about the relief provided to the flood victims.

TDLP urges Govt to come to the rescue of farmers

Hyderabad, April 26: The Telugu Desam has demanded that the state government come to the rescue of farmers who are facing hardship due to erratic power supply.

Speaking with reporters here today, party MLAs E Dayakar Rao, M Narasimhulu and others alleged that standing crops like paddy, mango and sweet lime were withering away forcing farmers to commit suicide.

They alleged that farmers in Medak, Nalgonda and some other districts were hard-pressed.

Babu wants enrolment drive completed by May 1

Hyderabad, April 26: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu today called upon the party cadre to complete the membership drive before May 1.

During a tele-conference with his party leaders today, Naidu reviewed the progress of the membership drive which began on April 5 . He claimed that there was a tremendous response to the party’s membership drive.

Naidu wanted his party leaders to participate simultaneously in Prajapatham and membership drives, he alleged that the state government was conducting Prajapatham for namesake and no major issue was solved in the programme.

Nizamabad, April 26: Disappointed after being denied a berth in the Legislative Council, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president D Srinivas on Sunday lent his support to the Telangana cause — for the first after the movement began — during his ongoing tour of the Nizamabad constituency ahead of by-elections to the seat this July/Augst.

The tour, his first in six months, was eventful not only for his remarks but also for protests. At several places, Telangana protagonists raised slogans denouncing his ambivalent stand on the Telangana issue and even branded him a Telangana traitor.

Chiru to embark on Polavaram Sadhana Bus Yatra

Hyderabad, April 26: Praja Rajyam president K Chiranjeevi will embark on `Polavaram Sadhana Bus Yatra’ from Antarvedi in East Godavari district from May 5.

A meeting, held under the presidentship of Chiranjeevi at the party office here today, elected party leader Jyotula Nehru as president of the Sadhana Committee.

Chilli farmers in upbeat mood

Vijayawada, April 26: Chilli farmers in the district are on cloud nine due to the bumper yield they had received this year despite earlier drought conditions and flash floods. Though hailstorm lashed some parts of the district, there are no reports of damage to the crop.

Assistant director of horticulture Balaji Nayak said that chilli farmers completed their harvest much before the hailstorm struck and the damage to the crop was negligible.

Venkaiah for separate JPCs on IPL, phone-tapping

Hyderabad, April 26: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government appoint separate joint parliamentary committees (JPCs) to inquire into the IPL cricket and phone-tapping scandals which had “challenged the democratic system of the country.’’ The BJP leader said all the people involved in the IPL scam should be umasked and that only a JPC probe would be able to do this.

AP Congress chief to contest in Nizamabad bypoll

Nizamabad(AP), April 25: Andhra Pradesh Congress president D Srinivas today hinted that he would contest the bypoll to the Nizamabad assembly seat scheduled to be held soon.

“Party workers have strongly demanded that I contest the bypoll. A decision on this matter would be taken by party president Sonia Gandhi. As far as I am concerned, I am guided by wishes of the activists,” he said addressing a party meeting here.

Srinivas contested from the Nizamabad seat in the 2009 assembly elections but lost it to his BJP rival Y Lakshminarayana.

HC stay on Pharma City land allotment

Hyderabad, April 24: In an apparent snub to the state government, Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the High Court on Friday stayed the allotment of land in Paravada Pharma City near Visakhapatnam in favour of Trydax, a company that reportedly has the son of minister Kanna Lakshminarayana on its board.

The court was hearing a petition filed by SMS Pharma, the original allottee of the land. The petitioner said Trydax was given 19 acres from the 42 acres land originally allotted to it.

Saarc hobbled by India-Pak mistrust’

Hyderabad, April 24: Though it has been 25 years since the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was formed, it had failed to live up to expectations, said former secretary to the Ministry for External Affairs (MEA) K V Rajan here today.

Camps to clear BPS, LRS cases

A mela will be held at all the GHMC Circle offices on Saturday during office hours for clearance of pending applications under the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS). Simultaneously, a camp will be held at the GHMC head office for clearance of pending Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) applications.

Maoists damage vehicles, block roads in Andhra

Hyderabad, April 24: Maoists on Saturday damaged two vehicles including one belonging to state police and blocked roads by chopping down trees in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district, police said.

Two vehicles were burnt by CPI (Maoist) ultras on Chintalamma and Koyyur ghat road in Koyyur mandal in the wee hours of today, Visakhapatnam district Superintendent of Police Vineet Brij Lal, told PTI over phone.

IISc campus likely to come up in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, April 24: The second campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, is likely to come up in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district.

Union Minister for Human Resources Development Kapil Sibal in a letter to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah Saturday said the central government was examining a proposal of Andhra Pradesh in this regard and had discussed the idea with IISc, Bangalore.

Tribunal to solve cases of land encroachment

Hyderabad, April 24: All temple lands in the state will be fenced and the government will set up a tribunal to solve the cases of encroachment of temple lands, endowments minister Gade Venkata Reddy has said.

Speaking with reporters here today, Reddy said there were about 3,000 cases of encroachment of temple lands.

To renovate the temples ravaged by the floods that occurred in Oct last year, an amount of Rs 3.36 crore was allocated and the work was completed in regard to 39 temples which cost Rs 77 lakh.

Gold plating: TTD Big Two lock horns again

Tirumala, April 24: The Big Two of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams — chairman D K Adikesavulu Naidu and executive officer I Y R Krishna Rao — are again locked in a combat following the High Court stay of the goldplating work on the Ananda Nilayam.

Both deny any differences, but it is evident they are pulling the gold-plating project in opposite directions.

The project, named Ananta Swarnamayam, is being questioned in the High Court by one Raghava Reddy of the Hindu Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi. The court stayed the work on Thursday.
