Bhimavaram, November 08: Several women complained to TDP president Chandrababu Naidu that they were not getting loans under Pavala Vaddi scheme and were facing problems with microfinance institutions at a public meeting at Veeravasaram village today as part of his West Godavari tour.

Pointing to a liquor shop near the venue, Naidu said, “See the shop abuzz with drunkards? They are enjoying while the farmers are in trouble. The government is depending on the income derived from liquor.”

Hyderabad, November 08: Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao today dismissed as anti-Telangana the campaign that there would be a law and order breakdown in the state after December 31 when the Srikrishna Committee is scheduled to submit its report on the demand for state’s bifurcation.

“We will not be carrying swords and parade on the streets after December 31. Our agitation will be non-cooperation in a democratic way,” Rao said, speaking at two meetings organised in connection with some workers of the Telugu Desam joining the TRS.

Hyderabad, November 08: When it comes to the behaviour of the children, parents of the nine youngsters caught for their mischievous acts recently, have resorted to blame games.

The nine minors, all Intermediate first and second year students of a corporate college, were caught by Jubilee Hills police on November 3, for writing graffiti on walls, throwing eggs on passing two-wheelers, shopping malls and luxury cars parked in front of houses in the posh Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills.

Advocates call bandh to demand HC Bench in coastal AP

Vijayawada, November 08: Stepping up their agitation for a High Court Bench here, advocates in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh enforced a shutdown in the city today.

The bandh was observed in Guntur, Krishna and West Godavari districts, where the protesting lawyers resorted to road blockades and appealed to shopkeepers to close their establishments.

The lawyers stopped Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu at Eluru, the headquarters of West Godavari district, during his visit to rain-affected areas of the region.

Kisan Swarajya Yatra in the state

Hyderabad, November 08: Indian agriculture sector is under crisis with about two lakh farmers committing suicides in the last 10 years and 600 to 700 of them in the last six months, according to the Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (ASHA).

ASHA, a network of about 400 organisations working on sustainable agriculture began a Bus Yatra carrying ryots, agricultural scientists and young students as part of its Kisan Swarajya Yatra which began at Sabarmati Ashram on October 2. The Bus goes through the state from November 3 to 10.

Cyclone or no cyclone, fishermen are unfazed

Nellore, November 08: The ‘Come-what-may we will not budge from here’ attitude of the fishermen with regard to evacuation due to rains, has left the officials in a fix. Fishermen in Mypadu, Pallepalem, Gangapatnam and Kudhithipalem in Indukurpet mandal curtly told the officials that they will not leave their houses when the evacuation for safety was suggested. The officials’ efforts trying to convince them with explanation of the cyclone threat went in vain.

Congress leader’s hand seen in Suresh surrender

Anantapur, November 08: Former Maoist and Paritala Ravi aide Pothula Suresh was produced before a magistrate here late Sunday evening and was sent to judicial remand till Nov. 17.

District prison authorities had expressed apprehensions over Suresh’s safety in jail as suspects in the Paritala Ravi murder case are also lodged there. Therefore, the magistrate asked the police to remand him to the Charlapally central prison in Hyderabad. Police prevented media personnel from covering the proceedings in the magistrate’s house.

‘Is this what Naidu learnt?’

Hyderabad, November 08: Minister for agriculture N Raghuveera Reddy lamented that while the state government was expecting a bumper crop this year, heavy rains and floods have damaged standing crop in over three lakh acres.

“Notwithstanding chief minister K Rosaiah’s efforts in gearing up state administration to tackle cyclone Jal, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu is provoking public in West Godavari district,’’ the minister observed while addressing a press conference here today along with rural development minister Vatti Vasantha Kumar.

NDMA to set up cyclone training centre

Hyderabad, November 08: The National Disaster Management Authority is keen to set up a cyclone training centre at Gannavaram, near Vijayawada, in Krishna district soon to provide training and alert farmers on latest weather reports, NMDA member and MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy has said.

Speaking at a seminar on disaster management organised by Acharya NG Ranga Foundation here today on the occasion of the late leader’s 111th birth anniversary, Reddy said that the NMDA would set up the centre if the government provided the needed land.

Prime Minister hosts dinner for Obamas

New Delhi, November 07: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday night hosted a private dinner for visiting US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle which was attended by political bigwigs, business leaders, actors and sports personalities.

The Obamas drove to the 7, Race Course Road residence of Singh from ITC Maurya where they are staying. They were warmly welcomed by Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur.

‘I’ll not ask T-JAC to vacate my quarters’

Hyderabad, November 07: TDP politburo member E Dayakar Rao said he would not ask the Telangana joint action committee (JAC) to vacate his quarters.

Speaking to reporters here today, Dayakar Rao said Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy issued notices to him not to hold political meetings and hoist party flags in the Assembly quarters allotted to him. Despite the notices served by the Speaker, he said he would not ask the JAC to vacate the quarters.

‘Government failed flood-victims’

Kakinada, November 07: “I am with you. You need not worry about your future or about this useless government,” Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu assured the distressed farmers in Gorrepudi, Patarlagadda and Cheduvada villages in East Godavari district today.

Naidu criss-crossed the rain-hit areas in the district and consoled the farmers in distress. He interacted with them while visiting the submerged paddy fields in the villages.

Hyderabad, November 07: Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud today remarked that it would not be proper if governor ESL Narasimhan interferes in the affairs of the state government by having reviews with the ministers, public representatives and officials concerned. “It appears that the governor’s activities are meant to ridicule an elected government,” he quipped.

Disaster response force in Nellore from Cuttack

Nellore, November 07: A 30-member-strong National Disaster Management Response Force (NDMRF) team has arrived here to assist the district administration in the relief and rehabilitation work in case the cyclone, Jal, makes landfall between Nellore and Puduchery on Sunday as predicted.

The Cuttack-based 30-member contingent, which is stationed at the Police Training College (PTC) at Chemudugunta, near here, will visit the low-lying areas in the 12 coastal mandals where the impact of the cyclone is expected to be the most severe.

Cyclone to strike coast tonight

Hyderabad, November 07: Nellore is bracing for the worst. The severe cyclonic storm, Jal, that lay centred 500 km southeast of Chennai and 600 km south-east of Nellore, is expected to cross the coast between Puducherry and Nellore on Sunday night.

No dispute in TDP over Telangana: Muddu

Hyderabad, November 07: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu averred that the Andhra and the Telangana leaders in the TDP would not resort to ‘wrestling match’ on Telangana statehood demand.

Speaking to reporters here today, he said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has to take a decision on Telangana.

Suspense on producing Pothula Suresh in court

Anantapur, November 07: Former Maoist and founder of People’s War Reorganisation Committee (RoC), Pothula Suresh was arrested by the Anantapur district special police in Udhna town in Surat district in Gujarat on Friday afternoon.

He is expected to be produced before the Anantapur district magistrate tonight.

Suresh, a close aide of the late Penugonda TDP MLA and faction leader Partitala Ravindra aka Ravi, went underground following the killing of Ravi on January 24, 2005.

He is accused in about 15 cases, including murder cases.

Jal: Ministers to monitor operations

Hyderabad, November 07: The state government is gearing up to meet any eventuality as cyclonic storm ‘Jal’ which intensified into a severe cyclonic storm is all set to cross the coast between Nellore and Pondicherry tomorrow night. The authorities have already hoisted third warning signal in the coastal districts particularly at ports. The Army, Air Force and the police are kept ready to swing into action in case of emergency.

Narendra takes over as IOB chief

Hyderabad, November 07: M Narendra has taken over as the chairman and managing director of the Indian Overseas Bank recently. He has set ambitious growth targets for the bank. He said that bank aimed at growth of its advances by Rs 14,000 crore and deposits by Rs 29,000 crore in the second half of the current financial year.

The bank also expects to recover Rs 1,300 crore Non-Performing Assets in the current financial year. The bank has Rs 2,685 crore NPA as on September 2010 which has improved from the March 2010 level.

AP police officer completes Athens Classic Marathon

Hyderabad, November 07: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah and DGP K Aravinda Rao have congratulated Ramesh Masthipuram, Superintendent of Police, for successfully completing the prestigious Athens Classic Marathon.

Of the 34 runners from India, Hyderabad had the distinction of sending the largest contingent, with 20 athletes, under the aegis of “Hyderabad Runners”, completing the 42.19km run held in the city of Marathoner on October 31.
