Cong Telangana leaders vow to achieve separate statehood

Hyderabad, November 15: Congress leaders from Telangana on Sunday vowed to keep up their efforts to achieve statehood for the region.

A number of party leaders, including MPs K Keshava Rao, G Sukhender Reddy, G Vivek, K Rajagopal Reddy, state minister K Venkata Reddy and senior MLAs K Jana Reddy, R Damodar Reddy, held a meeting at Bhongir in Nalgonda district to pay homage to those who allegedly committed suicide in support of separate Telangana.

The leaders took a pledge that they will continue their efforts for realising the goal of separate Telangana.

KCR a Telangana traitor, alleges OUJAC

Hyderabad, November 13: Lashing out at Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao for his comments on strengthening the Congress party, a section of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) today declared him a Telangana ‘Drohi’ (betrayer) and Congress agent.

Protesting the TRS chief ’s remarks that he would strengthen the Congress, the OUJAC students burnt Chandrasekhar Rao’s effigy after hurling eggs and ‘stabbing’ it at the Arts College today.

Om Prakash gets lifer in Moddu Seenu murder case

Anantapur, November 11: Mallela Om Prakash has been sentenced to life term in the murder of jail mate and sharp shooter Julakanti Srinivas Reddy alias Moddu Seenu, an accused in the TDP MLA Paritala Ravi murder case.

The Fourth Fast Track Court judge K V Vijayakumar pronounced the judgment here today two years after the murder. He also imposed a fine of ` 5,000 on Om Prakash.

Panchayats take ‘development’ to dizzy heights

Adilabad, November 11: Development is the catchword of not just politicos these days. Even liquor syndicates are singing the same tune. “Development through liquor” an oxymoron one would think but in Adilabad’s rural areas that’s a new business model.

The modus operandi is simple and is just as deadly. Since belt shops are illegal, liquor barons have got around the problem by getting the traditional kirana shops onboard with the help of village panchayats. The panchayats “auction” these shops and with the proceeds thus accrued, take up “development” works.

Another Jagan aide suspended

Hyderabad, November 11: Another follower of Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy was suspended by the state Congress leadership. Following directions from the APCC disciplinary and screening committee, the Chittoor DCC chief today placed former TUDA chairman Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy under suspension for his anti-party activities in the district.

‘Duggal’s act unethical, says Nagam

Hyderabad, November 11: TDP Legislature Party deputy leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy has urged the Srikrishna Committee not to give any scope for doubts on their credibility. He took objection to Committee member secretary VK Duggal attending a dinner hosted by Seemandhra leaders recently.

AP looks for another major port on its coast

Hyderabad, November 11: The Andhra Pradesh government is making efforts to persuade the Centre to locate yet another major port and ship yard on its coast.

With the Centre scouting for a place to locate one, Chief Minister K Rosaiah spoke to National Shipping Board chairman Capt PVK Mohan and Visakhapatnam Port Trust chairman Ajeya Kallam will soon be writing to the Centre expressing the state’s interest.

The Chief Minister also wants a delegation of officials of Shipping Ministry to visit the state and make a survey for a suitable place with the state only willing to allot land.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Prof HM Desarda said they are preparing a comprehensive report after the public hearing held recently. Many people who spoke at the public hearing had expressed concern at allotment of varsity land, in disregard of interests of the university.

Engineering student killed in accident

Hyderabad, November 11: An engineering student was killed while his friend escaped with minor injuries in a hit-and-run case on city outskirts on Wednesday.

The victim, Chandar Venkateshwar Rao (21) was a first-year BTech student of the MLR College, Dhulapally. He was the son of Raghavendra Rao, a reporter in a private news channel.

Crocodile has whale of a time in the pond

Hyderabad, November 11: It seems to have become accustomed to its new home. Lazing around the rocks sunbathing or having a careless swim, the 10-feet long reptile was having the time of his life.

In absence of any motor boats or on-lookers, the crocodile which was discovered in a pond at Nanakramguda on Monday, had a soothing day. The reptile reportedly came out of water every 20 to 25 minutes and remained visible for 5 to 10 minutes at a stretch.

2 sons of prominent doctors in the dock

Hyderabad, November 11: The West Zone police on Wednesday arrested two members of a gang, including its kingpin, who were pelting stones and eggs at people at night on the city roads.

The arrests came a few days after the cops apprehended nine youngsters for the same offence.

The two youngmen nabbed this evening are the sons of prominent doctors in the City and are intermediate students of a corporate college. They are aged about 17. They are residents of the Banjara Hills.

TDP demands Raja’s ouster, asks why PM is mum on corruption

Hyderabad, November 11: TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday demanded dismissal of Telecom Minister A Raja from the Union Council of Ministers for his alleged involvement in the Rs 1.76 lakh-crore 2G spectrum scandal and asked why the Prime Minister has chosen to remain silent on the issue.

Addressing a press conference at the TDP headquarters here, Chandrababu also demanded that the Centre immediately constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scandal and criminal prosecution be launched against those involved in it.

State moots panel on Joginis’ children, SC told

New Delhi, November 10: The government of Andhra Pradesh informed the Supreme Court today that the name of V Raghunatha Rao, a retired district and sessions judge, was being considered for appointment as the one-man commission to survey and study the problems being faced by the children of Joginis, Devadasis, Basavis and Mathangis.

The government placed before a bench comprising chief justice SH Kapadia, justice KS Radhakrishnan and justice Swatanter Kumar a communication to the social welfare department by the principal secretary in this regard.

Congress government reminds Babu of Tughlaq

OUJAC group to hold public meet on Nov 29

Hyderabad, November 10: A section of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) said they would announce their future course of action on the separate Telangana movement at a public meeting to be held on November 29 at the Arts College.

The meeting is being organised by the OUJAC (independent) to mark completion of one year of the students’ movement that started on the OU campus last year after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao broke his fast without getting any clear assurance from the Centre on creation of separate Telangana.

Drunken father kills toddler son, arrested

Nizamabad, November 10: A father allegedly killed his one-and-half-year old son by slamming his head onto a wall, under the influence of liquor at Badsi village in Nizamabad district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place last night, after an inebriated Narayana, a mason, picked up a quarrel with his wife Savitri and in a fit of anger took his crying son and flung him onto the wall killing the toddler on the spot, Nizamabad Rural Police Station Sub-Inspector Yadagiri said.

He often used to quarrel with his wife after consuming alcohol, the SI said.

Relief as cyclone threat dissipates

Hyderabad, November 08: People in southern coastal Andhra Pradesh heaved a sigh of relief as a very severe cyclonic storm over southwest Bay of Bengal weakened into a deep depression.

The met department, however, has forecast rains at most places with heavy to very heavy downpour at a few places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 12 hours. Rains are likely during the period at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy downpour over Rayalaseema and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
