For months, there has been no love lost between Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Jagan, but this is the first time that his TV channel and Telugu newspaper have aired such scathing criticism of the Congress chief herself.

Protests rock Andhra after police test put off

Hyderabad, November 21: The postponement of recruitment test for sub-inspectors of police landed the Andhra Pradesh government in a spot as massive students protests rocked Andhra and Rayalaseema regions on Saturday.

The universities and all other educational institutions in the two regions remained closed on a call of Seema-Andhra Joint Action Committee (JAC), which is opposing the demand for separate statehood to Telangana, which forms the third region of the state.

Denied Arogyasri facility, patient kills self

Nellore, November 21: In a shocking incident, a patient suffering from a kidney ailment, committed suicide by jumping from a hospital building after he was refused free treatment here today.

The victim T Venu (35), suffering from a kidney ailment went to Narayana Medical College Hospital at Chinthareddypalem near here for dialysis.

When he produced his health card for getting treatment under Arogyasri, the hospital staff refused to treat him free and insisted on making payment for dialysis.

AP may soon have an NCC Nagar

Hyderabad, November 21: Andhra Pradesh may soon have a National Cadets Corps (NCC) Nagar on the city outskirts where the cadets will be imparted training. ”The state government is willing to provide land for the proposed NCC Nagar,” director general of AP NCC AS Bahal said. Presently, the AP NCC imparts training to the cadets at their schools and colleges and also at the respective training units of Air force, Army and Navy.

Jagan’s channel takes U-turn, re-telecasts story sans Sonia remarks

Hyderabad, November 21: A day after airing a story critical of Congress and its chief Sonia Gandhi, Sakshi television channel owned by Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy took a U-turn on Sunday, re-telecasting it after deleting adverse references to her and claiming that it had not targeted her.

Though Sakshi TV announced that the 8.00 am show scheduled today would be a “re-telecast” of the episode aired on Friday night (and repeated on Saturday morning), viewers got to see a version that was totally different from the earlier one.

Rallies, dharnas mark bandh in Seemandhra

Hyderabad, November 21: It was an unofficial holiday for all educational institutions in Rayalaseema and Andhra region today as they remained closed voluntarily, responding to a bandh call by the Rayalaseema and Andhra JAC in protest against the state government’s decision to postpone the SI recruitment exam.

Rayalaseema and Andhra JAC activists and various student outfits took out rallies, staged dharnas and rasta rokos apart from burning state government in effigy at various places. However, no untoward incidents took place.

SI tests put off, TRS calls off bandh

Hyderabad, November 19: Bowing to pressure from students and pro-Telangana groups, the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday postponed a recruitment test for sub-inspectors of police.

A day after protests and violence rocked Osmania University here on the issue, Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy told reporters that the government was postponing the written test scheduled to be held on Dec 18 and 19 in view of the situation.

Lagadapati to quit politics if state is divided

Hyderabad, November 18: Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has said he will abide by the Srikrishna Committee report even if it recommends bifurcation of the state.

Talking to newsmen here today, Rajagopal said he would quit active politics permanently if the state was bifurcated. He hoped that the Srikrishna Committee report would be acceptable to all sections of people. The emotions of people would come down after the submission of Srikrishna Committee report.

Plan to develop Hyderabad into an Aviation Hub

Hyderabad, November 18: Aviation Conclave 2010, an international conference and exhibition on aviation sector will be organised by the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) at Hotel Katriya in the city from November 18 to 20.

Governor ESL Narasimhan will inaugurate the conclave to be participated by academicians, scientists, airline operators and manufacturers.

Crocodile is in the net, finally

Hyderabad, november 17: After playing hide and seek with rescue teams for the last 10 days, the stray crocodile decided to ‘take a walk’ on the nearby road in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

On discovering the reptile was missing, rescue team members searched the area and found it on the road near the pond. They tried to stop it by throwing stones on the road, following which it escaped into nearby bushes. The crocodile was finally caught by using a noose tied around its snout and its eyes were covered using gunny bags, thereby immobilizing the powerful reptile.

What Free Zone issue is all about

Hyderabad, November 17: The AP Public Employment (Organisation of Local Cadres and Regulation of Direct Recruitment) Order, 1975 (Presidential Order) lists six zones which cover all the 23 districts.

However, para-14 of the order pertains to certain posts and offices that have been excluded from the applicability of provisions of the order.

Clause (f) of para-14 reads as follows: “Nothing in this order shall apply to any post of police officer.

3 investors approach APIIC for land

Hyderabad, November 17: Notwithstanding the controversies over Emaar Township and Raheja Mindspace, the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is receiving requests from some major investors to set up their industries in the state. Camozzi Group of Italy, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, and Hyosung Corporation of Korea are among the investors who approached the APIIC seeking allotment of land in the past two days.

YSR men create a scene at CM meet

Vijayawada, November 17: About 100 YSR loyalists thronged Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, the venue of 125th anniversary celebrations of Congress, here today and raised slogans hailing the former chief minister and Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

While chief minister K Rosaiah and PCC president D Srinivas were addressing the meeting, the YSR loyalists raised slogans alleging that the party leadership had already forgot the services of former chief minister to the Congress and people.

Naxal literature seized

Kareemnagar, November 17: A four-member police team, comprising two CIs and SIs led by Jagityal DSP MA Bhari, which raided the house of Hemachandra Pande in New Delhi with the help of local police four days ago seized several important documents.

Hemachandra Pande used to live in flat no A-96 (second floor) at Sastrinagar in New Delhi.

It may be noted that he was killed in an encounter with police along with Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar Anand in July this year.

Telangana tussle slows down project work

Hyderabad, November 17: Telangana MPs appear to be progressing in stalling the Indirasagar (Polavaram) integrated irrigation project which the Andhra MPs want at any cost and at an early date.

Ever since the Telangana movement gained momentum, the pace of the project work has slowed down with Telangana leaders in the Congress and the Opposition parties, mainly the TRS, opposing it on the ground that it would lead to submergence of tribal areas of Khammam, a Telangana district.

TRS plans a big roar on December 9

Hyderabad, November 17: Preparing its gunpowder for the Dec. 9 anniversary of P Chidambaram separate Telangana statement, the TRS leadership today decided to organise a ‘Telangana Maha Garjana’ on the day in Warangal.

The move is a bid to build pressure on the Congress-led UPA government and show the TDP in a poor light on the Telangana statehood issue.

The TRS is hoping to mobilise about 25 lakh people for the meeting. The venue of the Maha Garjana will be named after Srikanta Chary, a TRS activist who committed suicide for Telangana last year.

Hyderabad, November 17: As the differences between Congress MPs Kavuri Sambasiva Rao and K Keshava Rao reached a disturbing high, the Congress high command has swung into action to control the damage that it might cause to the party.

Rs 70,000: Cost of crocodile rescue till Monday

Hyderabad, November 16: Even as the rescue mission completed a week, Bhaskar Reddy, land owner of the plot where the crocodile has made its home, has been spending around Rs 7,000 to 10,000 a day for its ‘safety’.

An estimate by forest department officials suggests an average of Rs 65,000 to 70,000 has been spent by the land owner and the forest, tourism, water works departments. According to forest officials, Bhaskar Reddy readily agreed to fund the water draining process to able to resume his construction work at the site.

Ahmedabad cops seek Viquaruddin’s pistols

Hyyderabad, November 16: Ahmedabad police today sought permission from the local magistrate to take possession of the two pistols seized from terror suspect Viquaruddin Ahmed.

The magistrate directed the police to hand over them to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch. The Ahmedabad police came to Hyderabad with an order from the court there directing the Nampally criminal court to hand over the pistols to them.

CRPF constable shoots self to death

Hyderabad, November 16: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable shot himself to death at the CRPF’s mess at Padmarao Nagar today evening.

The constable, Stephen (25), shot himself in the chest with his Insas assault weapon. A native of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, he was attached to the 42nd Battalion of the CRPF and was posted at the paramilitary force’s mess behind the Gandhi general hospital in Padmarao Nagar.
