6 hurt in fogging machine blast

Proddatur, January 12: Six persons were injured when a fogging machine blew up this evening. The brand-new machine, procured by the municipal council at a cost of Rs 3 lakh for undertaking fogging operations to weed out the mosquito menace, was inaugurated in the morning by local MLA M Linga Reddy. In the evening the machine was taken out for fogging from Gandhi Road and as neared Sundaracharya Club sparks emanated from it. Operator, Ijaiah (50), stopped the machine immediately but it was too late. The machine went up in flames with a big bang, injuring Ijaiah and five others.

MVI caught with assets worth Rs 1.70 crore

Hyderabad, January 12: A motor vehicle inspector (MVI) from Khammam district was caught with illegal assets worth over Rs 1.70 crore in the searches conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday.

CBI team visits Obulapuram mines

Anantapur, January 12: A three-member team of CBI officials, led by CBI DIG K Lakshmi Narayana, visited the controversial Obulapuram mines in D Heerehal mandal today on the directions of the government.

CBI officials who held a meeting with mines and forest department officials of both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in Bellary (Karnataka), later visited OMC I, II, III and Anantapur Mining Corporation mines. All the four mines are owned by Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.

Parents seek help for 14-month kidney patient

Karimnagar, January 12: Imran is a 14-month-old child and does not know that he is suffering from a serious kidney ailment. He had been all smiles until he suddenly collapsed due to pain while playing. His father, Majaruddin, on coming to know that his son was having a kidney problem, left his wife and the son at her maternal uncle’s home here. The poverty-stricken family is not in a position to arrange for proper treatment. Doctors told them the treatment would cost them a minimum of Rs 1 lakh. Unfortunately, they have no Arogyasri card to avail the benefit.

AIR FM channel to cover Karimnagar now

Hyderabad, January 12: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated a 102.3 MH 14th FM Radio Station for Karimnagar district as a `Sankranti’ gift at All India Radio Station in Hyderabad.

Inaugurating the FM station, the Chief Minister said the radio will manage to retain its own identity despite various advanced technologies available globally.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed optimism that the FM radio channel would provide entertainment and relay informative programmes to the people of the district.

Don’t trust Jagan: Naidu tells party MLAs

Cong leaders to meet Pranab on Telangana

New Delhi: Congress leaders from Telangana region are expected to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday to press for the introduction of a bill for statehood.

The leaders met on Tuesday to decide on the future course of action on separate statehood.

Congress MPs, MLAs, MLCs and local leaders have also passed a resolution seeking the introduction of the Telangana Bill in the budget session.

Telangana Cong leaders have also suggested that if their demands are not met, they would be willing to resign from their posts as a last resort.

Khammam, January 11: Shahnaz, a resident of Sarapaka village in Burgampad mandal, Khammam district, went to her parents’ place in Kothagudem four months ago. It wasn’t unnatural but four months had passed by and her husband, SK Shareef, was understandably upset. He rang her up only to find that she was not in Kothagudem but in Hyderabad. He rushed to the State capital and found to his horror that she had become a “surrogate mom” _ it means she will deliver a baby for a third party, usually childless couples.

4 held for chain snatchings

Hyderabad, January 11: Three persons involved in chain snatching and a robbery and one other person who disposed of the stolen property were arrested by police today. Cops recovered 13 tola gold ornaments, a camera, two watches, a phone and a knife from them.

The arrested included Mohd Imtiyaz alias Sameer, Md Sultan and M A Wahab alias Nissar (all belonging to Miralam Mandi). They were caught during routine vehicle checking by Santoshnagar police. Police said the three accused were involved in three chain snatching incidents, a robbery and lifting a two-wheeler in the city.

Jagan’s ‘Jala Diksha’ in Delhi today

New Delhi, January 11: Former Congress MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy will undertake a day-long fast in the national capital on Tuesday to protest against the ‘injustice’ meted out to Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal award.

Jaganmohan Reddy, son of the late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, arrived in the capital tonight by a special train along with his supporters and farmers. He would sit on a fast from 10 am at Jantar Mantar along with his supporters.

Moily to tackle Jagan’s threat

Hyderabad, January 11: Law Minister M Veerappa Moily on Tuesday rushed to Hyderabad as the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh faced a serious threat of being upstaged by loyalists of former party MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and also the ruling party legislators from Telangana.

Hyderabad, January 11: A man’s constant endeavour to do something unique is taking him places. His next destination- another Guinness record.

38-year-old P Krishna Kumar, who has been recognised as a Guinness record holder for enacting nine different roles on nine different stages at the same venue in a span of one hour, has once again set a new feat.

This time, Kumar has typed the English alphabets, numbering 26, within 4.65 seconds. In the process he went onto break the previous Guinness record of 5.06 seconds.

10 fishermen killed in road mishap in Andhra

Visakhapatnam, January 11: Ten fishermen were killed and 12 others injured after a van in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary lorry near Payakaraopeta here in the wee hours this morning, police said.

The incident occurred when the driver of the over-speeding van lost control over the vehicle and dashed into the stationary lorry from rear side on NH-5 at around 4 am, Narsipatnam DSP N Narasimha Kishore told PTI.

Police suspect that the mishap occurred due to fog.

Eight persons were killed on the spot and two others died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Good response to RTA’s online grievance system

Hyderabad, January 11: To provide quick response to customers’ grievances, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) had introduced an online grievance mechanism system last year. Spark in lab at DRL causes panic

Hyderabad, January 11: Eruption of a fire spark in one of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories unit gave jitters to its employees today. The spark in one of the units, located at Bachupally, was claimed to be outcome of a chemical reaction. But there are no casualties or injuries, according to the company officials.

‘Congress under no threat in Andhra’

New Delhi, January 11: The Congress in Andhra Pradesh is under no threat, a party spokesperson said here on Tuesday as former MP Jaganmohan Reddy sat on a day-long fast with thousands of supporters, including several Congress legislators and two MPs.

Putting “speculation to rest”, spokesperson Manish Tewari said: “The Congress government was never in any kind of a threat, is not in any threat and neither will be.”

Stating that “we are not here to criticise anybody”, Tewari told reporters: “Mr Jaganmohan Reddy is not a part of the Congress party.”

State suspects role of outsiders in OU trouble

Hyderabad, January 11: The State government suspects the presence of outsiders on the Osmania University campus in the guise of students. Both the police and the University authorities have come to know that these non-students are the troublemakers who have been resorting to violence in and around the campus and launching attacks on the police personnel in the name of Telangana movement. The OU officials have been asked to deal with the issue.

Andhra minister dares Jagan to dislodge govt

Hyderabad, January 11: Spitting fire at YS Jaganmohan Reddy for claiming that the Andhra Pradesh government was surviving at his mercy, Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy today dared the former MP to dislodge it by “making his so-called group of MLAs” resign immediately.

“Let your so-called group of MLAs resign from their posts. Then the government will fall and we shall face an election. Why wait till 2014,” Ravindra Reddy challenged Jagan this evening, in reaction to the claims made by the latter in New Delhi today.
