State going backward due to congress policies: Pratibha Bharati

Hyderabad, January 27:The TDP senior leader, Ms K Prathibha Bharati, has said that the State that was marching ahead on the path of progress and development during the previous TDP regime has become once again backward due to the policies of the Congress government.

Addressing a gathering of party workers on the occasion of the Republic Day on Wednesday at the NTR Trust Bhavan, she said the people should always remember the great sacrifices made by our freedom fighters who did not hesitate even to lay down their lives for getting freedom from the British.

T-agitators erect wall across road to obstruct Rachchabanda

Nalgonda, January 26: The fastidious Telangana agitators continue to create obstructions to the prestigious Rachchabanda programme of the Chief Minister, Mr K Kiran Kumar Reddy on the second day of its launch.
The agitators constructed a wall on a road obstructing the entry of people’s representatives and officials to Bibigudem village under Chivvem mandal in this district on Tuesday.

Man attempts suicide in Rachchabanda

Vijayawada, January 26: One person attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday, in the ‘Rachchabanda’ programme launched by the government on Monday.

According to the information, the person reportedly paid money for a house. As the house was not sanctioned, he tried to commit suicide in Mopidevi in Krishna district, during the Rachchabanda programme. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Day 2: TRS halts Racha Banda run, again

Hyderabad, January 26: For the second day, the government sponsored Racha Banda programme faced rough weather with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi activists stepping up their protest against the government for ignoring the Telangana bifurcation issue while blocking the progress of the event.
At several venues in the districts, the programme was nominal and at some places it was boycotted leading to violence with clashes between the TRS men and the programme convenors.

The police intervened to quieten the angry mobs of protestors.

Leopard sighted again on outskirts

Hyderabad, January 25: People in city suburbs have to be careful from now after Forest department officials confirmed that a leopard was indeed on the prowl at Shamshabad. After a crocodile ventured into the Raidurgam area a few months back, it is a leopard that is giving residents sleepless nights.

The wild animal was sighted by locals near Shatamrai for the third consecutive day, sending chill down their spines. After getting the report, forest officials swung into action and inspected the area of sighting.

Ex-ACB staffer caught with fake visa

Hyderabad, January 25: An elderly person, who worked with the ACB for more than 20 years, was caught travelling with a fake visa to UK. He was caught by the airport authorities at Dubai two days back on his way to UK. He was deported back to the city and the Cyberabad police arrested him.

The person, 63-year-old E Ranga Rao of Moosarambagh, joined as a LDC in the ACB in 1976 and worked till 1998. In 2001, he shifted to the UK where he joined a computer firm.

Satavahana Ispat pollution: Notice to government

Hyderabad, January 25: A division bench of the AP High Court comprising chief justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru and justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on Monday ordered notice to the state government and the Pollution Control Board on a writ petition complaining of environmental pollution attributable to the Satavahana Ispat Limited in Bomanahalli in Anantapur district. The ryots of the area complained to the High Court that the industry was responsible for discharge of trade affluent causing health hazards to the local residents.

Hyderabad, January 25: The Hyderabad-Wadi-Hyderabad Passenger train has been extended upto Gulbarga from January 25.

The extended train No.57135 Hyderabad- Gulbarga Passenger will arrive/depart Wadi at 21.30/21.40 hrs, Shahabad at 21.53/21.55 hrs, Martur at 22.06/22.08 hrs, Hirenanduru at 22.15/22.16 hrs and arrive Gulbarga at 22.45 hrs.

Sangareddy, Janaury 24: The mystery shrouding the killing of faction leader Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri is likely to be unravelled in the next couple of days. This was announced by Director-General of Police K Aravinda Rao today.

Deadline extended for first phase of UID project

Hyderabad, January 24: Despite being the first state to launch enrolments for the Centre’s flagship Aadhaar project, Andhra Pradesh is making slow progress in issuing the unique identification (UID) numbers to its denizens. As a result, the deadline for covering seven districts in the state has been extended from March 31 to June 30.

Kalyanamastu will go on: TTD EO

Tirupati, January 24: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams was not going to wind up Kalyanamstu, the mass wedding programme, executive officer IYR Krishna Rao clarified here today.

Referring to media reports on the decisions taken by the Specified Authority a couple of days ago, Rao said in a press release that they had only disbanded the trust set up for the purpose and would be bearing the cost of Kalyanamastu from the general fund of the TTD.

He also clarified that they had been using only domestic cow ghee in temple rituals and in prasadams.

Babu preaches seven sutras on corruption

Hyderabad, January 24: TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu today urged the Centre to prepare a draft bill to curb corruption and bring back black money stashed in tax havens abroad. He demanded that the bill be introduced in the budget session of Parliament.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today, the TDP president said the Centre ought to give first priority to tackling corruption, amending diplomatic laws if necessary. When the country is facing new challenges, old laws would have to be bypassed and new ones brought in to meet the new realities, he wrote.

State puts a stopper on payments except salaries

Hyderabad, January 24: In a major development, the state government today is learnt to have issued oral instructions to all the treasuries to stall all payments except salaries and input subsidy to farmers in view of shortage of funds in the exchequer.

The decision came in the wake of the Finance department authorities expressing concern over declining revenue receipts and spiralling expenditure during the current financial year during a series of meetings held in the past few days.
