3 college students die as RTC bus overturns

Tirupati, January 28: Three engineering college students died and 20 others were seriously injured when a Tirupati-bound RTC bus from Madanapalle overturned at the Narasingapuram railway level crossing in Chandragiri mandal this evening.

According to the Chandragiri police, the accident occurred when the bus driver tried to overtake another vehicle and lost control over steering. The bus lost purchase of the road and turned turtle.

Locals, who rushed to the spot, alerted the police. Rescue operations are continuing when reports last came in.

All-party leaders, irrigation experts to meet

Cong, MIM workers come to blows at Uppuguda

Hyderabad, January 28: In an unusual turn of events, ruling Congress workers created a scene at the Rachabanda attended by a MIM legislator in the Old City protesting against the delay in construction of a flyover.

Scores of TRS and BJP workers were taken into preventive custody when they tried to disrupt the official government programme at three other places in the city and its outskirts.

Tension prevailed at the Rachabanda programme held at Begum Bazar with the followers of marketing minister M Mukesh Goud chasing away the TRS and BJP workers who tried to disrupt the programme.

CM to visit Anantapur for Rachabanda on Jan 30

Anantapur, January 28: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will visit the district on January 30 to participate in Rachabanda at Garladinne mandal headquarters, according to district collector B Janardhan Reddy. The district officials are making arrangements for the chief minister’s visit and inspected the Helipad arrangement at Garladinne ZP High School.

Leopard stays out of sight

Hyderabad, January 28: The leopard sighted in city outskirts has probably moved onto another territory, according to forest officials.

Since the last two days, there has been no sign of the wild cat in and around Chary Nagar, where it was first sighted about a week back.

Failing for two days to lure the four-year-old leopard with a dog bait, forest officials have decided to change the bait to a goat. A 12-member team has been on night vigil since the last three days.

Missing businessman murdered

Hyderabad, January 28: The mystery behind a milk businessman from Bholakpur who went missing two weeks back was unraveled today. Police said the businessman, N Dayanand Yadav (21) was kidnapped and later murdered by his rivals. His body was dumped in the river Musi on the outskirts of the city and is yet to be recovered.

According to police, Dayanand was friends with a youngster, B Srinivas, who was also a milk businessman a few years back. Two years ago, the duo had a quarrel over a petty issue but it was sorted out with the intervention of local community leaders.

Rights forum rejects police’s encounter claim

Hyderabad, January 28: Human Rights Forum (HRF) today alleged that CPI (ML-Praja Prathigatana) party’s Khammam district secretary Pratap Reddy alias Suresh was not killed in an encounter as claimed by the police but was shot dead by the police in a cold-blooded manner.

Suresh was killed in an alleged encounter with the police near Boosaraayi village in Khammam on January 23.

Ravi Teja’s brothers abuse mediamen

Hyderabad, January 28: Film actor Ravi Teja’s brothers, Raghu Babu and Bharath, are in the news and again for wrong reasons. A complaint has been lodged against the duo for allegedly threatening and misbehaving with media personnel at the Central Crime Station (CCS) office in Basheerbagh today.

The duo came to the CCS office, as part of their regular attendance before police – a condition set by the court for granting bail in the drugs case registered against them.

The duo were caught, earlier, by the CCS while in possession of drugs.

Telangana activists disrupt CM’s public meet

Hyderabad, January 28: Telangana activists went on the rampage on Friday, pelting stones at a public meeting addressed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and damaging 15 vehicles in Nalgonda district of Telangana region.

A few policemen, including a deputy superintendent, were injured when protesters resorted to throwing stones at a meeting the chief minister was addressing as part of “Racchabanda”, a government programme aimed at taking the administration to the doorsteps of people.

Rodents nibble on corpses at government hospital

Hyderabad, January 28: Exposing the sorry state of affairs in government hospitals, rodents partially ate three dead bodies in the Mahaboobnagar government hospital morgue, leading to protests by the relatives of the deceased.

According to reports reaching here, the bodies were kept in the mortuary after post-mortem yesterday and when the kin of the deceased went to collect the bodies today, they found the bodies partially eaten. The bodies of two children who drowned in a pond at Bhootpur were among the three corpses.

20 students fall ill consuming noon meal

Karimnagar, January 28: Twenty students have fallen ill after consuming the mid-day meal in a school.

According to the information, students of the Brahmanapalli primary school under Ramagundam mandal have started vomiting after eating food.

Reports said that the condition of seven of the students was stated to be serious. They were rushed to hospital.

TDP wins in MPTC byelections

Visakhapatnam, January 28: The Telugu Desam party has won all the three MPTCs for which byelections were held in Anakapalle.

According to a press release by the party, the TDP won the Bogulavada seat with a majority of 369 votes. It also won the Uderu by a margin of 226 votes and Kondram with 284 votes.

Polio drop contamination? Three-member team to probe reports

Krishna district, January 27: Krishna District Health Officer Shalini Devi on Wednesday said that a three-member experts team, comprising of doctors has been set up to probe into reports that nearly 30 children fell ill after being administered polio drops at Chevuripalem in Mudinepally mandal in Gudivada.

Talking to media persons, Dr Shalini Devi said that the experts’ team of doctors would shortly visit the village and enquire about the incident.

30 children ill, parents blame polio drops

Krishna district, January 27: Nearly 30 children in Krishna district were admitted to various hospitals after falling ill, allegedly after being administered polio drops as part of the ongoing pulse polio drive on Wednesday.

The pulse polio immunization drive began on January 23.

According to reports, the 30 children, hailing from Chevuripalem in Mudinepally mandal in Gudivada town, took ill after being administered the polio drops. They were rushed to various hospitals in Gudivada town by anxious parents.
