Jubilant CM rules out threat to his govt

Guntur, February 08: There is no danger to the Congress government or the party in the state, declared Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy buoyed by the big turnout of people at his Rachabanda programmes in Guntur and Prakasam districts today. The merger of the PRP with the Congress seem to have had its effect as the chief minister appeared visibly happy and confident while declaring that there is no threat to his government.

Bhanu Kiran’s vehicles, documents seized

Hyderabad, February 08: Police today reportedly seized a couple of vehicles and some incriminating documents of Bhanu Kiran, the prime suspect in the killing of faction leader G Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri in the city a few days back. Sources said TDP leader from Vijayawada, Vallabhaneni Vamsi, was also questioned by CCS sleuths for nearly two hours following allegations of his involvement in Suri’s killing.

Deceased student’s kin attack college

Hyderabad, February 08: Tension prevailed at a private engineering college at Itikyal in Mahabubnagar district today as the parents of a girl student, who committed suicide two days ago in the college hostel, attacked the college damaging the furniture. They staged a protest alleging that the negligent college management was responsible for the girl’s death.

Police, quoting the suicide note purportedly written by the girl, said she ended her life over petty differences with a roommate.

Naidu holds door open to ex-comrades from PRP

Chirala, February 08: A dday after the PRP’s merger with Congress, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu invited his former comrades now in the to-be-defunct party to come back home rather than go to seed in the Congress.

Leading a day-long dharna at the Epurupalem panchayat office in support of weavers, he said: “Some Telugu Desam leaders joined the PRP due to some political reasons. Now, the PRP has merged with the Congress. I invite all of them to come back to the TDP fold.”

Road blockade in Gadwal over Muslim student’s death

Gadwal, February 8: Thousands of people staged dharna in front of the college and damaged college property protesting against the suspicious death of a student of Kotum Engineering College.

The busiest road was blockaded by setting ablaze tyres as a result the traffic was blocked for 5 hours upto 30 kilometres.

The protestors were demanding arrest of college officials.

According to details a Muslim girl student died in mysterious circumstances two days ago. Asia Begum (22) was the daughter of Basheer Ahmed resident of Rajol, Vadde pally Mandal.

Telangana state will become a reality soon’

Hyderabad, February 07: Telangana Congress MPs and MLAs who met on Sunday felt the formation of separate Telangana state has reached a decisive stage and it would become a reality very soon. They, however, decided to intensify their efforts to hasten the process of bifurcation. Telangana Congress leaders welcomed the merger of Praja Rajyam Party into the Congress. They claimed that the merger would benefit the Congress in Seemandhra region after formation of Telangana. They asserted that all Telangana Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs would go ahead unitedly on the T issue.

Teachers absent for years to be sacked

Warangal, February 07: The state government has initiated steps to remove teachers failing to attend duties for years.

The school education department has sought explanation from such teachers. As there is no way to reach them, as their present addresses are not available with the department, their names were published in the government gazette on Feb 2 and were given 15 days, time to respond.

Woman attempts suicide after scolding by police

Hindupur, February 07: In an unexpected turn to the triangular love story (as reported in these columns), Pavithra, who continued her love affair even after her marriage to her maternal uncle Dhananjay, attempted suicide last night. However, her alert mother Rukmini and other relatives foiled the attempt which was made in the house situated in Weaver’s Colony here. Rukmini said her daughter was heart-broken as she was ill-treated at the police station where the police had allegedly scolded her.

New bridge to come up on Godavari in Khammam

Bhadrachalam, February 07: The long pending construction of a bridge on the Godavari river at Pusur village in Wazeedu mandal is going to materialise soon. Thanks to the Left Wing Extremism Scheme, the Central Government has sanctioned a 2-km bridge across the Godavari and allocated `300 crore for the project.

Of the total amount, Rs.200 crore is meant for bridge construction and `100 crore to lay a 40 km approach roads. One approach road will be laid from the border of Chhattisgarh to the bridge.

‘Telangana-stir will achieve its goal’

Hyderabad, February 07: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has claimed that the ongoing Telangana agitation would achieve its goal. He exuded confidence over formation of separate Telangana in the near future.

Telangana activists disrupt programme

Adilabad, February 07: Telangana activists continued to protest against the government mass contact programme in various places of the region today.

ADILABAD: Rachabanda was held in places, wherever possible, with thin attendance in Adilabad district on Sunday.

The programme was held in 15 of 28 places where it was scheduled to be held. Rachabanda was postponed in five places as none of the beneficiaries attended.

Software engineer from AP dies in US in mysterious circumstance

Kurnool, February 7: A software engineer from Kurnool district has died under mysterious circumstances in the United States of America on Sunday.

According to reports reaching here, 29-year-old Ranjit Kumar complained of chest pain and collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital in Atlanta where he was declared as brought dead.

According to his Ranjit’s father Suryanarayana, the software engineer had talked to his mother on Saturday evening and everything seemed fine.

TJAC threatens ‘historic’ non-coop movement

Hyderabad, February 06: Telangana separatist groups under the umbrella of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) met chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday and put him on notice for a ‘historic’ noncooperation in the region from Feb. 17 if an announcement is not forthcoming from the Central government that a bill on a separate state of Telangana would be introduced in the budget session of Parliament.

Stage set for PRP’s merger with Congress

Hyderabad, February 06: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K Chiranjeevi left for New Delhi this evening for his meeting with Sonia Gandhi at 11 am Sunday. He is likely to return to Hyderabad transformed as a Congress leader.

TTD runs into yet another row

Tirupati, February 06: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the chief custodian of the world famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala, seems to be heading for another controversy with its decision to hand over Srivari temple and eight other ancient temples under its management to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The proposal was mooted in the TTD Specified Authority (TTDSA)’s meeting on January 20 and was followed up with a letter to the Principal Secretary, Culture, AP.

‘Government raised our hopes’

Hyderabad, February 06: Gloom turned into righteous indignation today at the residence of G Varalakshmi, a first year B.Tech student of a private engineering college who succumbed to burn injuries on Wednesday, at Lashkarguda in Hayatnagar. The cause of anger was minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s remarks that the girl had died in a cylinder blast and did not commit suicide as claimed by her parents.

2 killed in collision with MLA’s vehicle

Sangareddy, February 06: Two persons were killed and two others were injured when Narayankhed MLA P Kishta Reddy’s vehicle collided with an autorikshaw near Jogipet in Medak district this evening, police said.

The mishap occurred when driver of the speeding autorikshaw lost control and rammed his vehicle into the MLA’s Tata Safari which was coming from the opposite direction near Chautkur village, Jogipet police said.

Reddy, Congress MLA from Narayankhed Assembly constituency, was going to Hyderabad. He was not hurt in the incident, police said.
