Rain likely in AP in next two days

Hyderabad, April 18: Thundershowers and hailstorm lashed Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Hayatnagar and Patancheru areas in the twin cities on Sunday.

Heavy rain occurred in many places in Rayalaseema and North Andhra districts.

However, the meteorological department has predicted light to moderate showers in many parts in twin cities and its suburban localities in the next two days.

BJP says ‘political will’ necessary for Lok Pal Bill

Guntur, April 18: Announcing its support to the anti-corruption Lok Pal Bill, BJP today observed that a ‘political will’ is necessary for successful passage of the bill.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said that Lokpal bill can be pushed through only with a “political bill”.

Naidu, while taking a dig at Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders over bypolls in Kadapa and Pulivendula constituencies, appealed the Centre to permit export of rice from Andhra Pradesh adding that more than 40 lakh tonnes of surplus paddy is available in the state.

Campaigning for Kadapa, Pulivendula by-polls hots up

Kadapa, April 18: The campaigning for the by-polls to Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies has been stepped up with candidates of Congress, TDP and former MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is seeking re-election, making all-out efforts to reach out to people.

Jagan has been campaigning actively for the last several days, while his mother Vijayalakshmi is also canvassing for her re-election from Pulivendula.

Former Minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, a younger brother of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is taking on his sister-in-law (Vijayalakshmi) in Pulivendula.

UPA survival difficult, says Venkaiah Naidu

Guntur, April 18: Rajya Sabha member and former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said that the survival of UPA Government would become doubtful after the results of Assembly elections in five States are announced.

The UPA came under a cloud of major scandals and it was so thick – skinned that Anna Hazare had to stage an indefinite fast to get an assurance for passing of Lok Pal Bill in Parliament.

Public meet today on power plant

Hyderabad, April 18: Paryavarana Parirakshna Sangham will organize a massive public meeting on Monday in Baruva on the eve of entering 500th day of agitation against the establishment of proposed power plant by Nagarjuna Construction Company.

Revolutionary Telugu balladeer Gadar and CPI State secretary K.Narayana will attend the public meeting. Several representatives of various organizations and human right forums will also take part in the meeting.

Four of a family killed in road accident near AP village

Sangareddy, April 18: Four persons of a family including two women were killed in a road accident on Hyderabad-Mumbai highway in Medak district today.

According to Kohir police, four members of a family, native of Nizamabad city, were returning from Hyderabad when their car collided with a lorry near Huggelli village.

Three of them died on the spot while another died on the way to hospital.

The deceased were identified as Khaleel-Ur-Rahman (74) his wife Tahera Banu (68) a retired teacher and daughter Romana Reshma (18), Mohd Mustafa (28), police said.

YSR’s wife files nomination

Kadapa, April 17: Health minister DL Ravindra Reddy filed his nomination for the by-election for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat with much fanfare in Kadapa today, while YS Vivekananda Reddy (Congress), YS Vijayalakshmi (YSR Congress) and B.Tech Ravi (TDP) filed their respective nominations for the byelection for the Pulivendula Assembly seat in Pulivendula today.

Telangana would be a reality by August 7: KCR

Hyderabad, April 17: The three day Sata Chandi Yagam being performed by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao at a private farmhouse in Moinabad in Ranga Reddy district concluded today.

The TRS chief exuded confidence that separate Telangana would be a reality, as predicted by vedic scholars, before Aug 7.

Earlier, Telangana Vastu expert Vavilala Damodara Sharma who lead the Sata Chandi yagam predicted that Telangana state would become realty before coming August 7.

‘No Work-No Pay’ order kept in abeyance

Hyderabad, April 17: Bowing to the increasing pressure from employees associations and political parties, the controversial GO MS 177 has been kept in abeyance pending the decision of the Cabinet subcommittee on employees issues.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy took the decision after ministers, particularly those from Telangana region, raised objections over the government order during the Cabinet meeting held on Saturday.

Kadapa office of union minister ransacked

Kadapa, April 16: Unidentified persons vandalised a local office of Congress leader and Union minister of state for Steel A Saipratap ahead of May 8 bypoll here, police said today.

“Some unidentified miscreants stormed the office of the minister on Friday night and damaged the furniture including photos of the national leaders, Circle police Inspector of Chintakomma Dinne Mandal Bali Reddy said.

Kiran launches Sabla scheme for girls

Hyderabad, April 16: Emphasising the need for providing education to girls, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday called upon parents to change their mindset and treat their daughters on par with their sons.

He also urged parents and teachers to play a vital role in creating awareness among children about social evils like dowry and eve-teasing.

Launching the ‘Sabla’ scheme here on Friday, Kiran Kumar Reddy said the Central government’s scheme is aimed at empowering adolescent girls in the age group of 11 and 18 years.

Karimnagar, April 16: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) authorities are a happy lot what with a recent survey revealing that coal deposits spread in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam and Warangal districts would be sufficient for the next 100 years.

The survey was conducted by the SCCL’s research and exploration wing in the Singareni belt in the four districts.

All-India drama festival in Guntur district

Candidate complains to EC against Jagan

Hyderabad, April 16: Sheikh Akber Mahaboob Basha, a contestant from the Kadapa LS constituency, on Friday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Kadapa former MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy accusing him of illegally using the name of YSR Congress Party, which is owned by Basha.

According to Basha, he was the first to apply to the Election Commission for registration of a party in the name of YSR Congress Party.

Meanwhile, Shiva Kumar of Nalgonda founded Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party and got it registered with the Election Commission.

AP: Congress leaders divided on GO 177

Hyderabad, April 16: Congress leaders stand divided on regional lines on GO 177 issued recently by the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.

Several leaders from Telangana want the government to withdraw the GO, their counterparts from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions said that it was not a new policy decision and the GO was issued to provide ‘clarity and guidance’ to the employees concerned.

Girl’s play in lift ends in her death

Hyderabad, April 16: A game of lift turned out to be a death trap for a nine-year- old girl here in the city on Friday.

Mamata (9), a Class I student, soon after returning from school, went out to play in the lift and got crushed.

The tragic incident took place at the Gayatri Apartments in Gandhi Nagar under the Musheerabad police limits.

The girl was crushed in the lift between the second and first floors in the five-storeyed apartments, police said.

Row over Ambedkar’s statue leads to tension

Sangareddy, April 16: Tension continues to prevail for the sixth day on Friday in Siripura village in Hatnoora mandal and police picketing has been arranged as a precautionary measure.

Row over installation of a statue of Dalit leader Dr B R Ambedkar led allegedly led to social boycott of Dalits in the village. However, the incident came to light late.

Ten days ago, Dalits and people of other communities had a dispute over installation of Ambedkar’s statue at the main centre in the village. Police and revenue officials intervened and pacified the conflicting groups.

FIR to be registered against Telangana panel

Hyderabad, April 16: The 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate today directed the Punjagutta police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the members of the Srikrishna committee, appointed to study the demand of a separate Telangana, for allegedly surpassing the laid jurisdiction of the Union government.

The petitioner, Valiur Rehaman, alleged that some of the contents of Chapter Eight of the Srikrishna committee report were baseless and could promote enmity between two religious groups.

Books in Telugu for civil service aspirants

Hyderabad, April 16: There is some good news for civil service aspirants in the state. The Telugu Akademi is planning to release preparatory books in Telugu for aspirants writing civil services.

Telugu medium students previously had to read English books and then translate to make notes in Telugu.

Books on the subjects of anthropology, public administration, political science, economics and psychology will arrive in the market by the first week of May, said Telugu Akademi director K Yadagiri on Friday.

Inter student’s murder: Police get a major lead

Vishakapatnam, April 16: The police have made a breakthrough in the murder case of Intermediate student R Aswani Mrudula in the city.

After 14 days of investigation, the police came to the conclusion that it was a case of murder for gain and the culprit was familiar to Mrudula’s family.

On the fateful day, 16-year-old Mrudula had come to stay with her parents in their apartment in Dondaparty in the city after her first year examinations were over.

After breakfast, her father, who is a petrol pump owner in the city and her brother, a Class 7 student, had left the house.

Man kills four women, commits suicide

Rajhmundary, April 16: In a shocking incident, a businessman brutally murdered his wife and three other women members of her family and later committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Tirumalayapalem village in Gokavaram mandal of East Godavari district in the early hours of Friday.

The businessman who reportedly had a property dispute with his wife, used to suspect her fidelity.

The businessman, Kotla Veera Venkata Satyanarayana (45), was found dead in a corner of the room in his mother-in-law’s house where the bodies of the four women were lying in a pool of blood.
