Hari attends; Lokesh flexis greet delegates

Hyderabad, May 28: Nandamuri Harikrishna, son of TDP founder NT Ramarao, was the only member of the family who attended the first day of Mahanadu being held at Gandipet on the outskirts of the city, on Friday.

Its a normal practice for the other members of the family such as Balakrishna and NTR Jr to attend the Mahanadu on the second day i.e. on NTR’s birth anniversary.

According to sources, party chief and NTR’s son-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu called up both Balakrishna and NTR Jr and invited them to attend the Mahanadu on Saturday.

Nagam asks Andhra leaders to bolster his fight

Hyderabad, May 28: The suspended TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Friday sent a 28-page letter to all the MLAs, MPs and MLCs who have been demanding for Samaikya Andhra.

In his letter, Nagam explained that injustice has been done to Telangana and asked Andhra leaders to cooperate with him in bifurcating the state. “Let us divide like brothers and compete with each other in terms of development,” he said.

OUJAC students try to disrupt Mahanadu

Hyderabad, May 28: The Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) made a bid on Friday to disrupt the Telugu Desam’s Mahanadu programme at Gandipet but were allegedly thrashed by party activists. In retaliation, suspected OUJAC students attacked the Reliance Fresh outlet at Vidyanagar and vandalised the premises.

The OUJAC had reportedly threatened to disrupt the Mahanadu demanding the TDP to spell their stand on a separate Telangana. A huge posse of policemen were deployed at the venue, anticipating trouble from pro-Telangana activists.

TDP leader found dead in Vijayawada hotel

Vijayawada, May 28: Madira Educational Institutions chairman and Telugu Desam leader Madira Brahma Reddy (55) was found dead in a hotel room here on Friday.

Governorpet police believe that Reddy committed suicide by consuming pesticide.

Reddy, a native of Kodad in Nalgonda district and resident at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad for several years, arrived in the on Wednesday.

Youngster held for cheating girl

Hyderabad, May 28: An youngster, whose marriage was scheduled to be performed on Friday, was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly cheating a girl. The arrested, R Raju, of Addagutta lured a 19-year-old girl in the name of love and allegedly had an affair with her.

However, he planned to marry another girl and his marriage was scheduled on Friday morning.

NIT director takes charge

Warangal, May 28: Professor K Srinivasa Rao, who was appointed as director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, assumed charge today from in-charge director K Srimannarayana.

Prof Srinivasa Rao is an alumnus of the NIT. The new director vowed to transform the NIT into a model institute in the next six months. He promised to improve basic amenities in the institute and give priority to research.

Farmers panic as cotton seeds remain unavailable

Warangal, May 28: Farmers are a worried lot as cotton seeds are still not available in the market though the kharif season is round the corner.

Agriculture operations have already begun and sowing will be taken up either in the first or second week of June.

According to agriculture officials, cotton crop is likely to be cultivated in 2.45 lakh hectares in Warangal district for which about 13.75 lakh cotton seed packets are required.

The seed companies have hiked prices of the seed packets, but they are yet to be released in the market in the district.

11 injured as two cars collide

Hyderabad, May 28: Eleven people were injured in an accident after a Tata Sumo hit an Indica car near LB Nagar on Friday. The mishap happened around 3.30 pm when a speeding Indica collided with the Sumo coming from Suryapet. “After hitting the Indica, the Sumo turned over and 11 persons inside the Sumo were injured,” the police said. The injured were rushed to hospital in an EMRI ambulance.

Child labour loses two fingers in quarry mishap

Karimnagar, May 28: Despite the district administration’s anti-child labour drive launched recently, children are continued to be employed as workers in many factories and industrial units in Karimnagar district.

And this is evident in the fact that a 15-year-old boy working at a granite quarry reportedly lost two fingers on his left hand in an accident at the workplace.

The incident occurred two days ago but it came to light only today.

Orissa doctor nabbed for duping MBBS aspirants

Hyderabad, May 27: A doctor from Orissa and his associate were nabbed on Thursday for allegedly duping unemployed youngsters on pretext of providing jobs and getting them admissions in MBBS courses. The accused doctor collected more than Rs 2 crore from several persons in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh by posing as the deputy director general, Central Health Education and Training, Union ministry of Health, police said.

CM congratulates IIT-JEE toppers

Hyderabad, May 27: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday congratulated the top rankers of the Indian Institute of Technology—Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) from the state.

AP: Babu under pressure to ease Telangana stance

Hyderabad, May 27: The trouble created by rebel Telangana leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy, which subsequently led to his suspension from the party, and the growing importance of Nara Lokesh, son of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, are likely to dominate the proceedings of the three-day Mahanadu, the annual conclave of the Telugu Desam, which begins here on Friday.

With Janardhan Reddy daring the party leadership to adopt a resolution on Telangana at the Mahanadu, the party will have to discuss the issue, whether Naidu likes it or not.

Next PCC chief to be from Andhra

Hyderabad, May 27: The next president of Pradesh Congress Committee will be from the Andhra region.

The Congress high command has come to a decision on this and is examining who, between two front runners housing minister Kanna Lakshminarayana and transport minister Botsa Satyanaryana, fits the bill better. Both belong to the Kapu community which is numerically strong in coastal districts.

The announcement on appointment of the new PCC chief is likely to be made in the next four to five days, according to sources.

‘I Never said SRC should settle Telangana issue’

Karimnagar, May 27: Union minister for state for human resource development Daggubati Purandeswari has denied that she has spoken in favour of constitution of a second states reorganisation commission to settle the Telangana issue.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Kendriya Vidyalaya near the Lower Manair Dam on Thursday, she clarified she had not made any adverse comments on the demand for statehood to Telangana. She said the Centre would take a final decision basing on the Srikrishna Committee’s report and that they would abide by it.

Rampaging dog bites 30 persons in 2 villages

Rajhmundary, May 27: In a chilling incident, a dog, suspected to be suffering from rabies, went on the rampage biting as many as 30 persons in two contiguous villages in Peddapuram mandal in East Godavari district in the early hours of Thursday.

The incident created a scare in the district as it has already earned the dubious distinction of being the rabies capital of the state.

Among the victims, eight were from Marlava village and 22 from Kadrakota.

Youth dies after doctors deny him treatment

Hyderabad, may 27: A 28-year-old man, Srinivas , of Bhogapuram village in Pithapuram Rural mandal, who had been bitten by a dog four months ago, died at his home on Thursday.After being attacked by a dog at Denduluru village in West Godavari district, he took the ARV but neglected to take further treatment. When his health condition became serious, his relatives took him to the government general hospital at Kakinada on Thursday but the doctors, maintaining that he was not suffering from rabies, sent him back.

YSR Congress forms ad hoc committee

Hyderabad, May 27: The YSR Congress which was launched at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on March 12, constituted the party ad hoc committee on Thursday.

YSR’s widow and Pulivendula MLA YS Vijayalakshmi and son and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy were named as the party honorary president and president respectively.

In all, the ad hoc committee comprises two advisors, 21-member central governing council (similar to politburo), 27 district ad hoc conveners and 22 district election observers.

Purandeswari’s convoy blocked

Karimnagar, May 27: The convoy of Union minister D Purandeswari was obstructed a couple of times on Thursday by TRS activists in protest against her alleged remarks on second SRC. Her convoy was stopped for a while at Nustulapur in Timmapur mandal by TRS leaders who raised slogans against her. Her convoy was stopped again near the One Town police station in Karimnagar town while on her way to the women’s degree college. When the police tried to clear the protesters, a TRS activist, Tirupati Naik, was injured.

TNGO to launch grama, basti bata

Warangal, May 27: The Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers (TNGO) association leaders announced their action plan on Telangana agitation today.

It would be intensified from June 5.

A resolution to this effect was adopted in the TNGO association’s executive committee meeting held at Hanamkonda today.

Speaking to media persons, TNGO association president Swamy Goud and general secretary Devi Prasad said they have decided to launch ‘Grama Bata’ in all villages of the region and ‘Basti Bata’ in the state capital.

Four accused remanded

Hyderabad, May 27: Four men accused of killing faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, were remanded to prison for 14 days on Thursday.

Manmohan Singh Bahadur, Sulam Subbaiah, A Venkataramana and B V Hari Babu were produced in a local court after their six-day custody of Crime Investigation Department (CID) ended on Thursday. They were later sent to Chanchalguda prison.

While the Central Crime Station (CCS) of the city police nabbed four men and probed the case initially, it failed to arrest Bhanu Kiran, the mastermind behind Suri’s killing.
