State suppressing opposition by using police force: TDP

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today alleged that the Congress(I) Government was trying to suppress the voice of the opposition parties by using police forces.

Talking to reporters here after submitting a memorandum to Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy here , TDP deputy floor leader Gali Muddu Krishnamma Naidu said that the ruling Congress party has been trying to suppress the opposition’s voice.

Kidnapped boy strangled to death, accused arrested

In a tragic end to the kidnap drama, 12-year-old Gokavarapu Naga of Amalapuram was strangled to death by an engineering student, Dangeti Ravichandra, after he had abducted him on Wednesday last.
Based on the data received from cell towers, the police special team tracked the accused Ravichandra to a hotel in Visakhapatnam last night.
During interrogation, the accused spilled the beans to the police that he killed the boy on the same night.
He cooked up the kidnap story for getting a ransom of Rs five lakh from the boy’s family.

Tummalapalle Uranium plant commissioned

Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) today commissioned its first project outsiode Jharkhand at Tummalapalle in YSR District today.
Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee commissioned the Uranium Ore Mine and Processing plant of UCIL.
UCIL operated six underground mines, one opencast mine and two processing plants located in Jharkhand.
Tummalapalle deposit has 60,000 tons of uranium and continuing exploration has shown promise of further reserves, which has the potential of making it one of the most significant uranium reserves in the world

200 Kg ganja seized, 4 held

Police seized more than 200 kg of ganja worth about Rs 24 lakh while being transported by car at Munagacharla Village in Nandigama Mandal of Krishna District today. Police said during a vehicle check, police found huge
quantity of ganja being transported to Hyderbad from from Paderu in Visakhapatnam in two cars.
As per preliminary estimation, the seized ganja was worth Rs 24 lakh. Four persons arrested in this connection, police said.

By-polls notification within 10 days: CEO

Chief Electoral Officer Banwar Lal on Tuesday stated that the Election Commission of India is likely to announce the notification for conducting by-elections to 18 Assembly segments and one Parliament segment in the State within next 10 days.

PWG founder member Satyamurthy passes away

K G Satyamurthy, one of the founders of People’s War Group (PWG) passed away on Tuesday. He was 84.

According to family sources, K G Satyamurthy died of illness at Kandulapadu of G Kondur mandal in Krishna district. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.

Satyamurthy, a Dalit Naxalite leader and a literary icon, wrote revolutionary poetry under the pen name of Shiv Sagar.

CPI blames government’s indifference in liquor scam.

CPI state secretary K Narayana blamed the ruling Congress party for its indifferent attitude in taking action against liquor syndicate.
Addressing a press conference here today, he alleged that the bigwigs in the liquor scam were left untouched while some individuals were booked.
In the investigation it has come to light that 60 per cent of liquor shop owners are below poverty line and very poor. Even though they have become owners of liquor shops and it is clearly indicating that they are benamis to the leaders,’ he pointed out.

ACB registers more cases in AP liquor scam

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered more cases in connection with the ‘massive irregularities’ being unearthed during its ongoing probe into the liquor auctions conducted in Andhra Pradesh.

The agency has registered six more cases regarding the fraud (like traders having liquor licenses in name of PDS card holders), allegedly committed in auction of liquor shops in the districts of Srikakulam, East Godavari, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool.

Two gets bail in liquor syndicate case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau Court on Tuesday granted bail to two accused in the liquor syndicate case.

The court granted bail to Sangareddy ACB circle inspector Som Narayan Singh and liquor trader Mohan Reddy. They have been asked to furnish the surety of Rs one lakh each.

Meanwhile, the court has rejected the bail petition of another accused B Balraj Goud following the objection raised by the ACB. While rejecting his bail plea, the court extended Balraj Goud’s judicial remand till April 24.

AP seeks stationing of troop carrier helicopter at Vizag

Andhra pradesh Chief Minister N Kirankumar Reddy today urged the Centre to station a troop-carrier helicopter at Visakhapatnam for facilitating swift airborne operations in Andhra-Orissa border to tackle Left-Wing extremism. In his address at the Conference of Chief Ministers on Internal Security in New Delhi, the Chief Minister requested the Centre to approve pending request of troop- carrier helicopter immediately and bring expenditure on Counter Terrorism measures in the states under SRE funds, like in the case of Left-Wing Extremism.

Student commits suicide for Telangana?

A degree final year student on Sunday committed suicide by setting himself ablaze reportedly for the cause of Telangana.

The deceased, 22-year-old Dasari Naresh, who was doing BSc (Maths) final year from Nivedita Degree College, took the extreme step at his residence at Kothakota on Sunday morning.

According to Kothakota police, Naresh wrote a four-page suicide note and kept it on the television set. Then he locked himself in the bathroom and committed suicide by setting himself ablaze. He died on the spot.

Tension in AP villages over desecration of Ambedkar statue

Tension prevailed in two areas in Ramachandrapuram sub division following another incident of desecration of Dr Ambedkar statue in Lolla village of Rayavaram mandal and vandalizing of Ambedkar flexi board in Yedida Sithanagaram village of Mandapet rural mandal today.
Dalits, on hearing the news, gathered in large numbers in the two villages and staged dharna demanding immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for it.

Poisonous fumes coming out from earth in chittoor

Three persons have taken ill when they inhaled a poisonous gas emanating from ground at Ganganapalli village on the outskirts of the town.

According to the information, the trio, including a boy, was grazing cattle when smoke and fumes started coming out of the ground. The condition of one of the three is stated to be serious.

Naidu deplores govt inaction towards Jagan

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu today said that it was tragic that there was no action against scam-tainted Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in spite of foolproof evidence of his quid pro quo deals.

Speaking to the media after garlanding statue of Ambedkar here, Naidu said that coming bye-polls will spell out the real anti-Congress and anti-YSR sentiments in the State.

No misuse of SC ST sub plan funds: Sridhar Babu

State Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu has assured that the government would ensure that not a single rupee of the SC/ST sub-plan funds would be diverted to other purposes.

Speaking at a function organized on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar’s Birth anniversary in Karimnagar today, he said an action plan would be put in place within two to three months, to implement the sub-plan. He said the State government was committed to doing justice to the downtrodden. He said that Rs 1,400 crores was being spent on laying roads in SC and ST colonies. (NSS)

Congress in dilemma over YSR legacy

Ahead of the crucial byelections to one Lok Sabha and 18 assembly seats, the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh is in a big dilemma over whether to criticise late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy or praise him.

Facing a tough battle in the polls, which are expected in May-June, the Congress appears confused on its agenda with party leaders publicly airing divergent views. While one section wants the party not to spare YSR for “corruption”, the other has warned the leadership that hitting out at the late leader would be suicidal.

5 construction labourers buried alive

Five labourers, including four women and a teenage boy, were buried alive and two injured when a huge portion of soil caved in, while they were digging up foundation for construction of a private school building, at 4th lane of Donka Road, here today. Police said about ten labourers were digging up trench to construct a concrete beam in about 30 feet depth. The huge soil, which was dug up earlier, was dumped on ground and it caved in on the workers, burying them alive.

Centre has clear funding for 20 Municipalities: Minister

The Minister for Municipal Administration M Maheedhar Reddy said that central government had cleared funding to Andhra Pradesh under the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the renovated building of the Press Club at Rajahmundry today, the Minister said already under the first phase of the scheme various developmental workers were taken up at a cost of Rs 14,000 crore in 87 municipalities of which works were completed in 48 Municipalities.

Local bodies polls before assembly by-elections: Minister

Municipal Administration Minister M Mahidhar Reddy on Thursday announced that the State Government was likely to conduct elections to local bodies before the by-elections to 18 Assembly segments in the State.

Talking to media persons after participating in a slew of development programmes in the East Godavari district, the Minister said that the government has to conduct elections to local bodies within 45 days after the completion of census work in the state. He hoped that the elections to local bodies would be announced before the next by-elections.
