CPM leaders support stir against KSEZ

The CPI (M) Jatha, which began its tour of coastal areas at Srikakulam on July 20, today reached Kothapalli and went round Konapapapet and Uppada Kothapalli mandals where thousands of fishermen families are displaced due to large scale acquisition of land for Kakinada Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The Jatha, titled as Matsyakarula Stitigatula Adhyayana Prachara Yathra (study tour of condition of fishermen living in coastal areas) has so far covered the shore areas in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam Districts.

State to spend Rs 16 K crore on irrigation: CM

Reiterating that the State Government was committed to protect the interests of farmers, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday said that the government would provide irrigation facility to 30 lakh acres by spending Rs 16,000 crore by 2014.

Govt failed to implement right to education act: Naidu

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the State government had failed to implement the Right To Education Act in right earnestness.

Naidu was addressing a gathering after handing over a financial aid of Rs 10,000 to a degree student Divya Jyothy from the Kodali Charitable Trust and NTR Truust in the NTR Trust Bhavan. Divya Jyothy is from Ventrapragada of Krishna district.

Speaker Assures To Get Rs 200 Crores To Tackle Fluoride Problem In Nalgonda

Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar reportedly assured Nalgonda district Collector Mukthyeshwar Rao that he would talk to the Finance department for allocation of Rs 200 crores to solve the chronic fluoride problem in Nalgonda district.

It may be recalled that the members of House Committee on Wildlife and Environment, led by the Speaker visited the fluoride affected villages in the first half of this month.

Rythu Sangam to hold protest on farmers issues from Aug 1

The Rythu Sangam will organise Rythu Poru Bata in all the districts across the State from August 1st to 8th against the failure of the government to address the farmers issues.

Talking to media persons here, Rythu Sangam president Rama Krishna alleged that the State Government has failed to provide subsidized seeds and fertilizers to farmers despite the beginning of Khariff season. Farmers are also deprived from agricultural loans. Although the authorities were fully aware of the situation, they did not take any measures to rescue the peasants, he said.

Launching stir only option on medical seats to Telangana:TRS

Former MP and TRS leader B Vinod has said that his party has no other alternative than launching agitation if the Congress government failed to get additional medical seats in the medical colleges of Telangana region.
A TRS delegation led by Vinod called on Principal Secretary of Medical & Health K Ratna Kishore today and enquired about the government’s move as a Division Bench of the High Court would be pronouncing its judgment on the issue on Friday.

PAC Chairman visits Visakhapatnam to inspect land allotment

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman R Prakash Reddy today warned the organisations and companies that the land allotted to them by government would be withdrawn if construction on the land will not commenced soon. According to district administration officials sources here, The Committee visited the Health City and Port City, which reviewed the land allotments made by the Congress government from 2006 to 2011, wanted to resume allotment of lands that were not utilised for the original purpose.

Etela Deplores Cm’s Silence On Sircilla Incidents

TRS floor leader in the Assembly Etela Rajender has said that the attack of Seemandhra goons on Telangana women in Sircilla town was atrocious.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Rajender described the attack on TRS women leaders — Rahimunnisa and Lalitha — as the attack on the entire Telangana women. He deplored the attitude of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in not reacting to the atrocious incident and failure to initiate action against the police personnel responsible for the heinous incident even though the TRS leaders met him on the Sircilla incident. Minister saraiah’s son surrenders

BC Welfare Minister Baswaraju Saraiah’s son Sriman, who has been facing charges of abusing a police sub-inspector, surrendered before the district court here on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the High Court granted him anticipatory bail.

It was stated that TRS activists staged a protest when Saraiah was participating in some official programs. Angered by this, Sriman rushed to the police station and abused the duty officer for remaining mute spectators when TRS men disrupted the minister’s program.

The shutdown called today by TRS over the visit of YSR Congress Party Honorary President Y S Vijaya Lakshmi to Karimnagar district passed off peacefully.

14 killed, 6 injured in road mishap in Nalgonda

In a ghastly road mishap, at least 14 labourers were killed on the spot and another six received serious injuries when a cement laden lorry turned turtle near Bukkamuntalapadu in Nidamanuru mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday.

According to police, 12 bodies have been recovered from the accident spot and five of the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. All the victims belonged to Halia village, but the identities of deceased are yet to be ascertained. The mishap took place when the lorry carrying 20 labourers was heading towards Halia from Miryalaguda.

CM reviews rain havoc with the officials

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday directed Chief Secretary Smt Minnie Mathew and officials concerned to identify all low lying areas in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation areas and to workout measures to be
taken up for rehabilitation in view of the heavy rains during the last few days.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that an unprecedented and highest rainfall of 18 centimeters was recorded in twin cities. The rain damaged 3,600 houses and 80 teams were actively enumerating and relief works would be initiated shortly, the officials added.

YSR congress is a goonda party: Vijayashanti

Dubbing the YSRCP as Gunda Party, Medak MP and TRS leader Vijayashanthi has said that the Telangana region would go into the clutches of Gundas if people failed to obstruct the party of goons.

Police raided TRS office in support of Vijayamma: E Rajender

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Floor leader Etela Rajendar has alleged the police had raided the Telangana Bhavan in support of the Cheneta Diksha of the YSR Congress Party’s honorary president YS Vijayamm’s on Monday.

He has alleged that the police had attacked students and lobbed tear gas shells into the office. He has charged that ‘Kadapa Goons’ had attacked TRS workers, students and women. He had asked that why Vijayamma did undertake the programme when there was so much tension in the region.

Supreme Court rejects plea for probe against Naidu

The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a plea that sought a CBI probe against Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly benefiting several companies during his tenure as the Andhra Pradesh chief minister from 1996 to 2004.

The apex court bench of Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla declined to interfere with the state high court order which earlier rejected Y.S. Vijaya’s plea for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

Court issues non-bailable warrant against Edn Minister

The Economic Offences Court in Nampally on Monday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy for violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.

According to Enforcement Directorate, the Minister violated FERA Rules and did not pay the amount for importing machinery from abroad during his tenure as Managing Director of KPR Tele Products Limited in 2002. For violating the rules, the Enforcement Directorate has imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakhs on Parthasarathy.

Gales likely to hit north coastal region

Heavy rains are expected during the next 24 hours in the north coastal districts and the Telangana region. The Rayalaseema region is likely to experience moderate rainfall.

According to a bulletin by the Cyclone Warning Centre Visakhapatnam, a trough has formed from Chattisgarsh to South Tamil Nadu through the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. The depression and surface trough are also continuing. Under its influence, there could be gales with a velocity of 45 to 50 km along the north coast, it added. (NSS)

Over 2,000 acres of paddy fields submerged in Srikakulam

Over 2,000 acres of paddy fields got submerged due to flooding in the Right canal of Vamsadhara project following a breach at Ampolu in Gara mandal in Srikakakulam district. The inflows into the project have increased following incessant rains in the adjoining areas of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

JNTUK awards Doctorate to Computer Science teacher

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) has declared M Ramabai, faculty member of Computer Science Engineering Department as qualified for the award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D) for the thesis submitted by her titled ‘Shape representation and recognition through morphological methods.’ Her thesis was accepted by the University on the recommendation of the panel of examiners’, said JNTUK in a press release here today.
