JNTUK awards Ph D for lecturer

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological university Kakinada (JNTUK) today declared K Rajyalakshmi, lecturer, government polytechnic, Bheemunipatnam as eligible for awarding of degree of Doctor of philosophy (Ph D) in civil engineering. The theses on ‘Bearing capacity of reinforced foundation beds in soft ground’ submitted by her, has been accepted on the recommendation of panel of examiners.

She has submitted the thesis under the guidance of Dr M R Madhav, Professor Emeritus, JNTUH Hyderabad, according to a JNTUK press release. UNI

Tribals oppose laterite mining in Nagulakonda hills

Tribal organisations, NGOs and political parties, including BJP and BSP today expressed their strong opposition for according permission for laterite mining in Nagulakonda Forest Area affecting the livelihood of tribals and also disturb the catchment of several hill streams that supplies water for irrigation and drinking to over 120 tribal villages spread over to three mandals in scheduled area and four mandals in non-scheduled areas.

AP CM extends mass contact programme till Feb 13

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to extend his latest mass contact programme– Indiramma Baata–, apparently after it earned him the backing of the Congress high command.

As per the latest plan worked out by the Chief Minister’s Office, Kiran Kumar will conduct the programme till February 2013, covering the remaining 18 districts in the state.

CPI warns of more problems if centre delays Telangana

CPI National secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy has demanded that the Centre concede separate Telangana State without losing time.

Addressing a public meeting on the congregation of CPI’s Telangana Prajaporu Yatra here this evening, Suravaram said that the Centre must amend the Constitution if necessary to respect the desire of Telangana people. It was not proper to the Centre to obstruct creation of separate State on the pretext that a resolution was not passed in the Assembly. He also said that the Seemandhra people have to respect the sentiments of the Telangana people.

ASP reiterates charge against SP, seek CBI inquiry

The row between two IPS officers of East Godavari district took a new twist today, with the Asst Superintendent of Police Rampachodavaram Naveen Kumar reiterating his charges against the East Godavari Superintendent of Police Dr C Trivikram Varma and coming out with the fresh demand for CBI inquiry.

He told UNI that the inquiry conducted by the DIG Eluru range was biased and did not take into consideration the evidence produced by him against the SP. ‘Moreover, the DIG was trying to give a picture branding me as indisciplined making baseless charges against the superiors.

CPI demands Special Courts to settle land disputes

Adilabad, September 2 (INN): The Communist Party of India on Sunday demanded that the State Government set up Special Courts to settle the land disputes across the State.

Talking to reporters at Indravelli on the sidelines of Telangana Praja Poru Yatra which entered Adilabad district on Sunday, CPI State Secretary Narayana said that lakhs of acres of government land has been encroached upon by anti-social elements or it was under encroachment. He said that the Rangarao Commission has identified several case
of encroachment on government lands.

His wife and YSR Congress party honorary president Vijayalakshmi, daughter Sharmila, son-in-law Anil Kumar, daughter-in-law Bharati, brother YS Vivekananda Reddy and other family members paid tributes and offered special prayers at his grave in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.

People from different parts of the state also reached Idupulapaya to pay homage to Rajasekhara Reddy, one of the most popular leaders in the state’s history.

BJP’s Deeksha on Telangana from Monday in New Delhi

The leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party will sit on a three-day Deeksha (fast) from Monday demanding that the Centre introduce a Bill in Parliament for formation of Telangana State.

Talking to reporters here, BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said that the several senior leaders would participate in the Deeksha to be held at Jantar Mantar. Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley among others are expected to address the gathering at the fast venue over the three-day period.

Mixed response to shutdown call in Andhra Pradesh

The day-long Andhra Pradesh shutdown called by YSR Congress Party Friday to protest the government’s failure in solving the unprecedented power crisis evoked a mixed response.

The shutdown was near total in parts of Rayalaseema region, but partial in Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh regions.

Police arrested a large number of YSR Congress party leaders and activists in and around Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kadapa, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Kurnool, Anantapur and other places for trying to forcibly close shops and educational institutions and for blocking roads.

All-Party Farmers Meet Decides To Block Highways In 4 Districts

An all party farmers meeting held here on Thursday has decided to block highways in four districts on September 1, on the problems of the farmers of Krishna delta.

The meeting has also decided to intensify the agitation on the problems of Krishna delta to mount pressure on the government. The joint action committee of farmers has declared that it would launch a long-term struggle from September 4, if the government failed to release drinking and irrigation water to the delta area. VHR dismisses NDTV’s survey

Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Thursday dismissed the survey done by the NDTV projecting that YSR Congress party would win majority of seats in Andhra Pradesh, if elections are held now.

BJP to hold Telangana Poru Deeksha in Delhi from Sept 3

The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday reviewed the arrangements for the Telangana Poru Deekhsha proposed to be held in the New Delhi from September 3-5.

Addressing the meeting of office bearers of Telangana districts’ office bearers at the State BJP headquarters at Nampally, BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said that the Telangana Poru Deekhsha was aimed at mounting pressure on the Centre over the formation of Telangana State. He also discussed the strategy to be adopted for the successful conduct of Deeksha in the national capital.

Housing schemes’ beneficiaries to get localised services

Housing Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday stated that his department was taking all steps to rectify the lapses such as typographical errors and others at the initial stages of admission.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat, he said that the District Collectors have been given full powers to look into the issue. “There is no need for beneficiaries to come to State headquarters for rectifying mistakes and they can sort out the same at the district level,” he said.

390 students appear for web counseling

Only 390 students appeared for verification and web counseling for admission to engineering courses during last three days at the JNTUK Kakinada help center. A JNTUK press release here today said on August 27, 130 students, on the next day 110 students and on the third day today 150 students appeared for the web counseling.

The students who failed to attend the verification till now can appear for the same on or before September 6.

The Web option process will start on August 30.

Drinking water scheme being implemented in 267 villages. DC

District Collector Budda Prakash Jyothi said that 267 villages were chosen for the implementation of drinking water scheme at a cost of Rs.118 crores. Addressing a review meeting of the National Rural Drinking Water Scheme, here today, he said the funds, earmarked for the implementation of the drinking water scheme, should be utilized fully. He asked the officials concerned to take necessary permissions from the departments concerned to dig-up roads to lay pipe lines.

TRS supremo’s daughter meets Chandrababu Naidu

On Wednesday, Kavitha met her party’s bete noire TDP’s Nara Chandrababu Naidu and reportedly sought the latter’s support to mount pressure on the State government to install a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on the Assembly premises. It is learnt that Chandrababu had agreed to do so.

Woman with child climb water tank due to denial of justice

Officials heaved a sigh of relief after a woman who had threatened to jump off a water tank, came down after a request made by the local MLA.

A married woman Uppalapati Ramatulasi (22) along with her one-year-old kid and aged mother today climbed an overhead water tank at Shanthinagar in Kakinada here today.

She had threatened to jump off the tank if justice was not rendered by re-uniting her with her husband Kuncherla
Srikanth Kumar, who allegedly disowned her for giving birth to a girl child.
