Prohibitory orders continue in Tandur town

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for peaceful celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, after prohibitory orders continued for the second day in a row in Tandur town of the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district Wednesday, police said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code which were clamped yesterday after members of two communities clashed and indulged in arson over alleged vandalisation of a Ganesh idol in the town, will continue until further orders, a senior police officer monitoring the law and order situation said.

Telangana supporters meet AP Governor over ‘march’

Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) today met Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan to convey their concerns over the ‘Telangana March’ proposed to be organised here on September 30.

Talking to reporters later, JAC Convener M Kodandaram felt the State Government may use “too heavy” force and that some vested interests may indulge in foul play to vitiate the atmosphere during the ‘march’ which is intended to be peaceful.

Assembly adjourned without carrying any business on Day-1

As expected, the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly had a stormy start on Monday. However, following uproar and pandemonium by the opposition parties, the House could not carry any business on the first-day of five-day session.

The Telugu Desam Party members entered the House by holding lanterns as a symbol of State Government’s failure to tide over power crisis. Similarly, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs came to the House by holding placards of Jai Telangana. The YSR Congress members too had placards about the Fee Reimbursement issue and farmers’ problems.

‘T’ resolution in assembly not possible: Govt Whip

Government whip Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy on Monday stated that there was no need for a resolution in the State assembly over the Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to reporters at Assembly media point, he said that the House could not pass the resolution as there was no majority for passing the Telangana resolution. As the Centre has been dealing with the Telangana issue, he expressed confidence it would take a final decision on it soon to put an end to uncertainty.

YSRCP alleges match-fixing between Congress and TDP

YSR Congress party MLA Bhuma Karunakar Reddy alleged that both the ruling Congress and main opposition Telugu Desam Party have resorted to match fixing to adjourn the House frequently.

Talking to reporters at Assembly media point, the Tirupati MLA said that the Congress party resorted to match fixing at the behest of TDP to avoid giving replies on public issues. Though all the parties have agreed to discuss the power issue in the Business Advisory Committee meeting, however, he said that the TDP stalled the proceedings by staging protest before podium of Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

Errabelli slams Speaker for adjourning the House

Telugu Desam Telangana Forum Convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Monday alleged that Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House on “flimsy reasons.”

Talking to reporters at Assembly media point, he said that it was unfortunate for the Speaker to adjourn the House repeatedly when the State was plagued with so many issues including power shortage, fee reimbursement and tainted ministers. “It is not good for the Speaker to adjourn the House without taking up any public issue for discussion,” he said.

Govt announces Rs 15 cr for Palamuru varsity

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today announced Rs 15 crore for developing infrastructure facilities in the Palamuru University here. While interacting with students during his last day of ‘Indiramma Baata’ here, the Chief Minister reiterated that the government was giving top priority to providing higher education to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in the State. City police busts interstate racket in port city

The Port City Police have busted an interstate racket by arresting five people who allegedly duped traders by selling polished stones as ‘precious gemstones’. The gang members used to target gold traders from the district and also those from Kerala and Karnataka by luring them with ‘precious gemstones’ at cheaper rates, City Police Commissioner J Purnachandra Rao told reporters here today.

Petrol dealers in AP not to buy petrol on Oct 1, 2

In a bid to press for their demand to increase the commission, petrol dealers in Andhra Pradesh have decided not to buy petrol from petroleum companies on October 1 and 2.

A spokesman of the AP Petrol Dealers Association said that it has become uneconomical to maintain petrol stations
owing to sharp rise in expenses on various heads.

The decision of the petrol dealers is expected to hit supply of petrol in the state on those two days.

OU postpones exams scheduled on Monday

The Osmania University on Sunday informed that all the examinations including Ph D Admission Interviews scheduled on September 17, Monday, have been postponed.

In a media release, the OU Registrar said that the revised dates of postponed examinations would be announced later.

Change of CM not linked to Telangana issue: Gutta

Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy on Sunday stated that the change in Chief Minister of State should not be linked with the Telangana statehood issue.

Talking to media persons here, Sukhender Reddy said that Telangana state issue should be treated separately and it should not be linked with the change in the Chief Minister of State. “The change in Chief Minister has nothing to do with the Telangana issue,” he said. “Achieving separate state is the utmost goal of leaders of this region,” he pointed out.

Indra Karan threatens to quit Congress over ‘T’ issue

Former Congress MP Indra Karan Reddy on Saturday announced that he would resign from the Congress party’s primary membership if it fails to announce a favourable decision on the Telangana statehood demand by September 30.

Talking to media persons here, Indra Karan Reddy warned that the party would be completely wiped out from the region if the Congress High Command drags the bifurcation of State issue in the name of consultations with stakeholders. He said that he was consulting his well wishers and supporters over the future course of action plan to be adopted on the issue.
