A new study has recently revealed that women with atypical hyperplasia are at higher risk of developing breast cancer in future than previously thought.

Mayo Clinic study found that hundreds of women with these benign lesions indicate that their absolute risk of developing breast cancer grows by over 1 percent a year. The study found that after five years, 7 percent of these women had developed the disease; after 10 years, that number had increased to 13 percent; and after 25 years, 30 percent had breast cancer.

Female sex hormones called oestrogens can worsen allergic reactions in women, says a study.

“Women are more likely to suffer lethal allergic reactions because the female sex hormone makes the condition worse,” says a Telegraph report, quoting the study by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the US.

Most South African women unhappy with sex lives: Study

Most South African women are not satisfied with their sex lives, a study has revealed while suggesting that low self-esteem in the bedroom may be the key reason for it.

While 44 percent women said they were dissatisfied with their time between the sheets, nearly 25 percent rarely experienced orgasm, found the study commissioned by online marketing research company Columinate and international condom manufacturer Durex.

The researchers interviewed 1,000 sexually active women of which 83 percent were in a stable relationship and 17 percent were single.

Physical violence disturbs stress hormones in women

A new study has linked physical violence against women by male partners to a disruption of a key steroid hormone that may trigger various negative health effects.

The study by University of Oregon and Oregon Social Learning Centre looked at daily fluctuations of cortisol (stress hormone) levels in men and women.

Cortisol was drawn from saliva samples of 122 couples during on-site assessments and four times a day over four consecutive days.

Cortisol levels typically rise as people wake up, peak shortly thereafter and then decline rapidly.

Women who drink face greater suicide risk

Alcohol use increases suicide risk among women, especially those who have symptoms of insomnia such as sleep disturbance and daytime tiredness, shows research.
