Investors robbed of $11 mn Bitcoins in four years: Study

Bitcoin is the digital world`s most popular virtual currency, with millions in circulation.

“Our calculation of $11 million is almost certainly at the low-end,” said lead researcher Marie Vasek from Southern Methodist University in the US.

“The amount of Bitcoin that depositors have lost to these scams is probably many millions more,” Vasek added.

Being slim makes a woman happy

Being slim seems to make a woman happier than any man could, for a new study has found that a female’s weight has a greater effect on her spirits than her love life does.

And, according to researchers, being obese leads to more misery and suffering than being single — while being thin provides more satisfaction than a relationship.

The 24-year study of the ups and downs of the lives of thousands of Germans between 1984 and 2008 found that a good home life is more important than a glittering career, the ‘Daily Mail’ reported.

Its official! Men take twice as many selfies as women

A new research has recently shown that men take twice more selfies and share them online as compared to women.

The smartphone company HTC surveyed 2,000 Britishers and found that a quarter of men shares selfies to make their ex or current partner jealous, the Daily Star reported.

The researchers found that men post an average of three self portraits each week as compared to women who post 1.6 pictures.

Shhh! Your baby learning in sleep too

While infants sleep, they are reprocessing what they have learnt during the day, a study has found.

Working with researchers from the University of Tubingen, scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany discovered that babies of the age from nine to 16 months remember the names of objects better if they had a short nap.

And only after sleeping can they transfer the learnt names to similar new objects.

The infant brain thus forms general categories during sleep, converting experience into knowledge.

Treating women as mere body parts harm them the most

A new study of same and mixed-gender gaze patterns has found that women are viewed more frequently and for longer periods of time – even when their photos were blended in groups of both genders.

“What we found was that women overall were looked at more frequently. They were looked at first, they were looked at last and they were looked at for longer durations. This was the case for both male and female viewers,” said Mary Jean Amon, doctoral student in University of Cincinnati’s psychology programme.

Only woman can express intention of man who touches her: Court

Only a woman can express the intention of a man who touches her, a Delhi court has observed while dismissing a plea of a man seeking quashing of charges against him for allegedly outraging woman’s modesty.

The order came on a petition filed by a couple challenging a magisterial court’s order framing charges under IPC sections 354 (assaulting a woman to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting woman’s modesty through word or gesture), against them.

Sugary drinks trigger early periods

Girls who frequently consume sugary drinks tend to start their menstrual periods earlier than girls who do not, new research shows.

The team from the Harvard Medical School in the US looked at the relation between sugar-sweetened drinks and the age at which girls have their first period.

They followed 5,583 girls, aged 9-14 years between 1996 and 2001 and found that those who drank more than 1.5 servings of sugary drinks a day had their first period 2.7 months earlier than those who consumed two or fewer such drinks a week.

Shun screens at bedtime for better sleep

Limit screen time and caffeine for your kids at bedtime if you want them to get quality sleep and perform better in life, says a study.

“Good quality and sufficient sleep are vital for children. Just like a healthy diet and exercise, sleep is critical for children to stay healthy, grow, learn, do well in school, and function at their best,” said Orfeu Buxton, associate professor at Pennsylvania State University.

Stress during pregnancy can affect baby’s development

Stress hormones in the mother can affect foetal development, a new study says.

To test whether high stress levels in pregnant mice had an impact on their offspring, pregnant mice received the natural glucocorticoid corticosterone at different times during pregnancy.

Researchers found that increased levels of glucocorticoid stress hormones in pregnant mice caused the mother to eat more but reduced the ability of the placenta to transport glucose to her foetus.

Stress in soon-to-be moms not good for fetal development

Feeling stressed during pregnancy is not good for fetal development, says a new study.

To test whether high stress levels in pregnant mice had an impact on their offspring, pregnant mice received the natural glucocorticoid corticosterone at different times during pregnancy, either from day 11 to 16 (20 females), from day 14-19 (31 females), or not at all (74 control females).

Researchers found that increased levels of glucocorticoid stress hormones in pregnant mice caused the mother to eat more but reduced the ability of the placenta to transport glucose to her foetus.

BPA exposure worse for female hearts than males

, Jan 25 (ANI): A new study has revealed that bisphenol A (BPA) exposure may put females at greater risk of damage from stress as compared to males.

The study from a University of Cincinnati (UC) found that heart function and blood pressure in mice exposed to BPA from birth though young adulthood are affected differently in males and females.

Researchers found that in young BPA exposed female mice, the heart is more sensitive to stress-induced ischemic damage in a way not observed in untreated female mice.

Now take your brow product and meet your brows’ current bottom starting point and simply sketch or lightly swipe a line toward the nose, continuing at the angle of your natural brow. Repeat this step with the top part of the brow so that the two lines are parallel.

Retail therapy can expose your failures

Do you buy luxury products such as designer clothes that signal success and make you feel better? This type of retail therapy can actually backfire and leave you thinking more about your failures.

According to a team of researchers, this behaviour can strip consumers of their mental resources and impair their self-control.

“When consumers experience a psychological threat to how they would like to see themselves, buying products that signal accomplishment in the same area of their life could ironically cause them to dwell on their shortcomings,” the authors said.

Women outperform men when it comes to emotions

This is the result of a large-scale study by a research team at University of Basel in Switzerland that found that women rate emotional images more intensely than men and are more likely to remember them.

With the help of 3,398 participants, the researchers were able to demonstrate that females rated emotional image content – especially negative content – as more emotionally stimulating than their male counterparts did.

Does your boss yell, ridicule or intimidate you at times? Just ignore him if you want to get equal.

According to a new study, employees felt less like victims when they retaliated against their bad bosses and, as a result, experienced less psychological distress, more job satisfaction and more commitment to their employer.

“Before we did this study, I thought there would be no upside to employees who retaliated against their bosses, but that’s not what we found,” said Bennett Tepper, professor of management and human resources at the Ohio State University in the US.

Some women have casual flings for fun

A Canadian survey has revealed that women go for one-night stands for fun and the emotional factor comes later.

“To my knowledge, this is the first study to specifically compare physical and emotional reasons for casual sex,” study’s co-author Heather Armstrong from University of Ottawa told the National Post. The team surveyed 510 women for the study.
