While children who are older when they start school do well academically and socially in the short term, they are more likely to drop out and commit serious crimes as teenagers, new research has found.

“This research provides the first compelling evidence of a causal link between dropout and crime,” said lead research author Philip Cook, professor at Duke University.

“Dropouts are greatly over-represented in prison, so we know there is a strong association between dropping out and crime,” Cook added in the report which is forthcoming in the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics.

Woman’s mile-high ‘solo sex act’ lands her in jail

A British woman has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk in an aircraft after she stripped off on a flight from Jamaica and started performing a sex act on herself.

The 46-year-old woman from south-west London, who allegedly had disrupted the flight and indecently exposed herself, was nicked when her British Airways flight landed at Gatwick Airport on March 19, from Kingston, Jamaica, the Mirror reported.

A British Airways spokesperson said that they can confirm that police were requested to meet their flight from Kingston.

The study followed a group of almost 3,500 newborns born in Pelotas, Brazil for 30 years.

Obese women have around 40 percent greater risk of developing a weight-related cancer in their lifetime than women of a healthy weight, shows a study.

Obesity increases a woman’s risk of developing at least seven types of cancer – including bowel, post-menopausal breast, gallbladder, womb, kidney, pancreatic and oesophageal cancer.

The new statistics released by Cancer Research UK find that obese women have around a one in four risk of developing a cancer linked to weight in their lifetime.

In an experiment to empower women through information technology (IT) and promote financial inclusion, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) on Sunday launched a pilot project for complete digitisation of women’s self-help groups (SHGs) for efficient and hassle-free delivery of banking services.
