Spanking kids could have negative impact on child behavior

Spanking children as an effective form of discipline could lead to short- and long-term child behavior problems, a new study has found.

Child psychologist George Holden, who favours humane alternatives to corporal punishment, wanted to see if parents’ positive views toward spanking could be reversed if they were made aware of the research.

Holden and three colleagues at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, used a simple, fast, inexpensive method to briefly expose subjects to short research summaries that detailed spanking’s negative impact.

A new study has revealed that practicing yoga for as little as three months can reduce fatigue and lower inflammation in breast cancer patients.

At the six-month point of the study- three months after the formal yoga practice had ended- results showed that on average, fatigue was 57 percent lower in women who had practiced yoga compared to the non-yoga group, and their inflammation was reduced by up to 20 percent.

The participants had completed all breast cancer treatments before the start of the study and only yoga novices were recruited for the randomized, controlled clinical trial.

A Japanese lingerie brand has launched a bra that will only unhook by the woman’s “true love”.

The bra, designed by manufacturer Ravijour, monitors woman’s heart-rate, hormones and nervous system through a mobile phone app and makes sure that the guy unhooking it is “Mr. Right”, the Daily Star reported.

The bra, which unhooks only after sensing an instant boost of love-filled excitement, sends the body’s functions as a signal to the app, which then determines if the ” true love rate” is enough to unclasp it.

A new study has revealed that mothers favour daughters more than boys when it comes to Holstein dairy cows and how much milk they produce for their offspring.

Researchers at Kansas State University and Harvard University studied 2.39 million lactation records from 1.49 million dairy cows and found that cows produce significantly more milk for daughters than for sons across lactation.

Researchers, who looked at anonymous, aggregate Google searches to give a picture of what American parents are worried about when it comes to their kids, has found that parents are more concerned with a daughter’s weight and appearance and a son’s level of intelligence.

It was found that parents are more likely to search ‘is my daughter pretty?’ and ‘is my son smart?’, News.com.au reported.

The study found that there were fewer queries related to daughters and intelligence, despite the fact that girls are 11 percent more likely to be in programs for academically gifted students.

Researchers at Duke University interviewed parents and children from 1,293 families in nine countries: China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, the Philippines, Sweden, Thailand and the United States, and asked families a series of questions about dangers in their neighborhoods.

Based on the answers, the researchers scored the neighborhoods according to their degree of danger.
