Apple launching super-cheap iPhone: Leaked pics spark speculation

Apple is set to launch a low-cost iPhone after new images of the phone was leaked.

A US tech website, Techdy, has reportedly got its hands on the new phone’s plastic casing and front screen assembly.

Techdy claimed that the device has a 4inch screen like an iPhone 5 and is shaped like Apple’s iPod Touch.

According to the Sun, speculation has been rife about a low cost iPhone after images of its rear shell in white, red, blue, green and yellow emerged last month.

Young professionals falling prey to heart attacks

Heart disease is no longer restricted to the middle-aged and the old. Long working hours at the desk, little physical exercise and unhealthy eating habits are also taking a toll on working professionals in their late twenties and early thirties, experts say.

Bangladesh wants to trace 1971 war’s graveyards in India

Bangladesh wants India’s help to identify graveyards in the Indian territory where slain soldiers of Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War were buried, an official said here Wednesday.

The Bangladesh government is likely to take the remains of the slain soldiers and try to protect the graveyards with the help of India, the official said.

A two-day meeting of officials of Bangladesh and India began in the city to discuss, among other issues, the identification of the burial spots of th 1971 Liberation War.

Don’t take ‘smoking is haram’ fatwa lightly, Muslims told

Many Muslims in this country are still taking lightly the ‘smoking is haram’ fatwa, that was decided by the Muzakarah Committee of the National Fatwa Council for Islamic Religious Affairs in 1995.

Hence, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs), Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman urged Muslims, especially in the state, to realise that smoking had been decreed as haram in line with Islamic teachings.

Excessive consumption of cola or honey can cause unusual fainting

Drinking excessive amounts of cola and eating honey made from the pollen of Rhododendrons can cause unusual syncope (fainting) and symptoms of arrhythmia, a new study has found.

The findings were reported in two case studies presented as abstracts at the EHRA EUROPACE 2013 meeting, in Athens 23 to 26 June.

“Both these studies underline the importance of clinicians taking detailed medical histories for patients with unexplained arrhythmias and including questions about their dietary intakes,” Professor Andreas Goette, the EHRA Scientific Programme Committee chairperson, said.

Over half of children in the US have tried sipping or tasting alcohol by age 11, a shocking new study has revealed.

Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh collected data from 452 children in one Pennsylvania county each year from ages 8 and a half through 18. The children were asked how old they were when they first sipped or tasted alcohol, had a drink, had three or more drinks in a row, or were drunk.

Third of women suffer domestic violence: WHO

About a third of women worldwide have been physically or sexually assaulted by a former or current partner, according to the first major review of violence against women.

In a series of papers released today by the World Health Organization and others, experts estimated nearly 40 per cent of women killed worldwide were slain by an intimate partner and that being assaulted by a partner was the most common kind of violence experienced by women.

“Violence against women is a global health problem of epidemic proportions,” WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan said in a statement.

A mysterious new respiratory virus that originated in the Middle East spreads easily between people and appears more deadly than SARS, doctors reported Wednesday after investigating the biggest outbreak in Saudi Arabia.

More than 60 cases of what is now called MERS, including 38 deaths, have been recorded by the World Health Organization in the past year, mostly in Saudi Arabia. So far, illnesses haven’t spread as quickly as SARS did in 2003, ultimately triggering a global outbreak that killed about 800 people.

The study has helped identify two proteins that were never before linked to alertness and sleep-wake balance.

Principal author Dr. Masashi Yanagisawa, professor of molecular genetics and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator at UT Southwestern said that their study supports the idea that subjective sleepiness is influenced by the quality of experiences right before bedtime.
